Regarding the link that theone posted above, i think that's already happened as the SS passes have been withdrawn from being available on TalkTalk Youview.

Google was not my friend last night :D i think Sky will turn around and say "sod it" and will just get a deal done with all the iptv providers talktalk already done, bt and plusnet i think by end of this year, i'm only guessing at this though lol.

Wonder if VM will stand more of a chance of getting BT's AMC channel instead of Atlantic?

BT definitely won't let Sky have it lol :D

Yeah I would think they would.

VM and BT seem to be getting on at the moment, so maybe they have a better chance of doing this deal than with Sky.

I'd be surprised. The link in the other thread from Variety said it will be exclusive to BT. Time will tell though.

Broadcast mag also had a recent article that AMC Networks wanted to launch a UK version of their indy film channel Sundance. So, possibly, BT may nab that too.

VM will need to react to this if they wish to stay in the game. And what they have, that BT and Sky don't, is ever faster broadband speeds.

Well, my broadband speeds are more than enough for most people, and so ever increasing speeds will no longer be the attraction it once was before much longer.

VM should concentrate on providing good competition on all its services, otherwise the attraction of a 4-play package with them will reduce.

... I agree. UK cable has played second fiddle to Sky for a long time. Now they're being pushed into third place.

BT already has premium sports channels, now its getting a premium entertainment channel, with possibly a film channel to come.

I agree most providers over the Openreach network offer services of upto 80mb which is more than adequate for the majority of users.

Yes, passingbat, but you have to work within the system. I don't agree with deals that result in programmes being exclusive to a particular audience, although channels could be exclusive if other providers could pick up the programmes.

However, given that Sky are keeping SA and (for the time being) ITV Encore as exclusive and BT now appears to have AMC, VM have to fight back or they will lose a big proportion of their customer base eventually.

When cable launched 'The Studio', the channel was exclusive but the films could be bought up by other film channels. I do think that this is acceptable practice.

What is the point of essentially buying exclusive naming rights for channels, if you no exclusive to content to put on it?

BT are the new SKY! :)

Ultra HD channel, exclusive to BT customers. AMC exclusive to BT customers and a deal with HBO to make them first pay TV provider in the UK to offer customers buy-to-keep box sets of HBO programmes.

If this was SKY doing this there would be blue murder on here. I know as I once was one of the ringleaders ;)

Must admit that it feels like BT and SKY have been the providers making the most noise over the past 6 months. I feel Virgin are long overdue another WOW moment in terms of TV. The first pay TV provider to offer Amazon Prime on their platform or the first pay TV provider to make HD standard for all subscribers on all packages for completely free. There's only so many times bumping up broadband speeds will excite customers. Time for a new trick?

Are these available at the same time as the DVDs are released in the UK, or earlier? What is pricing like, and what happens to the downloads if you leave BT? Are the available with 5.1 audio?

It sounds like a nice thing to claim, but I'm just wondering what are the advantages/disadvantages over buying the DVD/Blu-ray?

I used to have TiVo, and thought it was a brilliant piece of kit, but it's not until you've stopped using it for a while that you really notice its flaws. It's so slow and disjointed when going between various menus. Even the remote seems counter-intuitive. Been using my brothers TiVo back and forth in recent weeks. The features are still great but all its flaws add up to it being a terrible user experience. I'm sure others will disagree however you should see my Mum and Dad trying to use TiVo. They have a V+ box and have no problems when they visit mine using my SKY+. When they visit my brothers its a total shambles :D

Agree 100% with you, VM definitely need to do something. People will ask what? But making HD variants for the packages customers have free, would be a good start.

VM could still keep BT Sport in the XL package, which would mean those who don't want it could take the L package but still get the HD variants of channels like Fox etc...

I have to agree, TIVO is not without problems, I do find it frustrating and slow sometimes, I gave up with the Netflix App, painful.

I'm in contract, but to be honest have started to look at other platforms, I've given TIVO a fair go, since it was released, but whilst it does have some good parts, it is flawed and clunky.

That's right, Sam, which is why I said you have to work within the system.

I think that my post #2718 answers Muppetman's point completely. I don't like exclusive deals which restrict the programmes that people want to see, that's the point. As viewers ourselves, I find it surprising that these exclusivity deals have the support of cable forum members.

However, if this is the world we have to live in and the regulators won't do anything about it, VM needs to jump on the bandwagon or sink without trace.

Sorry, MM, but that post makes absolutely no sense to me!

Of course that is the case, but why is it exclusive to BT? It may make sense to the two companies involved but it is not good for viewers. It just perpetuates a situation whereby we have to subscribe to all the various players to get the programmes we want. It's an absolute disgrace, if you ask me.

A deal, yes, but not an exclusive deal, unless that is what everyone else is doing.

Do you not think it is possible for VM to negotiate with Comcast and the like for them to launch on Virgin on a non-exclusive basis?

I would like Amazon to launch their streaming service on Virgin, but I have never said anything about exclusivity.

But as I have said, if that is the only way of competing with others who do not have such sentiments, I don't want Virgin being left out in the cold.

Don't VM have an exclusive deal with TIVO ? In every area exclusive deals are done I'm afraid , I may not like it but it's a case of live with it.

LOL, yeah it was the same when film4HD was exclusive. Ginx TV does not offer the type of programming certain people want though. Thats the only reason people are getting upset by it.

AMC will be much the same as Atlantic though, loads of repeats with the odd decent show thrown in.

True i have access to the USA amc and tbh there really isn't much on it i watch apart from twd and TURN.
There next so called big show Humans has already been snapped up by channel 4 anyway.
As for fear the walking dead viacom have a good relationship with AMC so no doubt it will show up on channel 5 or spike (i know spike isn't on vm yet but it can be accessed through freeview anyway).
People really won't be missing much imo.

Amazon got the rights to turn, along with Halt and Catch Fire, another AMC show, about the early days of the personal computer.

Season 2 of Halt and Catch Fire is currently showing as weekly episodes.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

Virgin could do with upping their game and getting the missing HD channels and hopefully the other channels that are available on the other providers.

As for me taking up Sky's offer of half price for 12 months, it's a non starter for me as I can only get up to 12 mb broadband from BT with them even saying I'm only likely going to get 7-8 mb speeds. There are no plans to have FTTC in my area so for me who has 2 boys either playing online games on Steam, xbox live or PSN and talking to their friends on Skype when playing the only choice for me for broadband is Virgin. I find their broadband terrific.
Have got 152MB, 2 tivo boxes, v+ box, TV XL and phone Xl which I don't need as we only ever use our mobiles but it's cheaper for me to keep the phone instead of dropping it, get this for £75 till October then £82 for 12 months after that

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

VM are just lazy or not bothered about tv imo, ok they may be struggling to get channels but they could counter this by negotiating on demand deals with US broadcasters for example Salem on WGN America hasn't been picked up by a uk network vm could go for on demand rights, the fosters on abc family another show not picked up by a uk network that vm could go for for on demand rights.
Also they could talk to networks such as NBC, FX, FOX about getting their back library of classic shows onto vms on demand platform.
VM could boost their on demand content greatly by doing little things like this but instead they are just burying their heads in the sand eventually they will get left too far behind which would be quite damaging for vm as customers will go elsewhere to get tv content.

Was racking my brains trying to think what it is but only ones i been told are historyhd and by my source saying "vm tv customers can expect a nice surprise next month." that makes me think that's when historyhd is launching.
No other channels have been mentioned as of yet to me except for the usual bbc red button ones which everyone and their cat knows about lol.

AMC is not launching on VM they have not changed their mind BT have paid quite a bit for exclusivity to the channel.

Are you sure about that, theone? I thought this channel was available on BT, and I've just read an article that it is available on Amazon Fire TV.

Even if it is currently only on VM, that doesn't make it exclusive, it's just that other platforms haven't taken it up.

Are you saying then that no other platform could contact TIVO and tell them they wanted to use their technology to design a TIVO box that suited them?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no clause in the contract VM have with TIVO that no-one else can use TIVO technology to design a box that meets their requirements, and given that this is so, I don't accept the comparison.

The live channel is not available in the uk on any platform except for VM, the app on both firetv and samsungtv offer replays of shows, reviews and mostly old stuff for example the last of us review was running last night on the samsung app whilst the live channel was talking about E3, i get the live channel via other means i can't discuss here ;)
Ginxtv are trying to launch on other platforms according to them on twitch they keep asking for people to contact sky and ask for ginxtv.

Yes i noticed the message on the channel has changed from... this channel is no longer broadcasting to ... This channel is off air.

As for Ginx they were very close to launching on Sky twice, once with their own channel and once with a timeshare channel. Not sure what happened but both options have to date not launched.

I have also noticed that Sky are broadcasting box sets of shows that do not have UK homes too. This is a crafty way for Sky to supply shows to its customers and nobody else.

What I can gather the so called free channel to xl customers is the premier sports channel till end of August.

So not really a permanent channel :/

Do you mean shows that have not been picked up by a UK broadcaster?

Isn't it better that Sky has them via on demand, than no one in the UK has access?

One of these shows is Justified, which channel 5 had, and then dumped!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

Sky Atlantic probably gets around 5m viewers a week, I think Sky Living gets more than this. If Atlantic was to be offered to more providers, those viewing figures would go up and they could command more advertising revenue.

Maybe they have weighed up the advertising revenue against forecast subscriptions losses if VM/BT/Talk Talk did have Atlantic....I dunno :-)

But again it has been said that Sky was willing to let Atlantic on other providers, it was just the amount they asked for it...again I dunno :-)

Which means my post is rather usless hahaha, sorry guys!

Ginxtv are trying to launch on other platforms according to them on twitch they keep asking for people to contact sky and ask for ginxtv.

As far as Ginx is concerned, this is what I was talking about. VM happen to be the only provider taking up the channel, so I suppose you could call that 'exclusive'. But there is a difference surely between being the only provider and actually signing up to prevent other platforms from taking it.

Media Boy HQ Monday round up.

We got word back from an Virgin Source last on Friday night.

We did ask if any new channels are set to launch but we was only told:

"Can't say much about new channels cause there doesn't seem to be a great deal."

But they also given us an DNP order to be reveal by July 2016. We have been reading it all weekend to see if we are not seeing things.

VO--- tests updates.

Here is the latest we have on V0-- Channels testing we do not know when the next update will be:

-Friday: 2 V0-- channels testing, 1 of them carry audio dd the other one AUDIO UNDEFINED (My source thinks it an app for TiVo).
-Saturday: 5 V0-- channels testing, only 1 carry audio dd.
-Sunday: 3 V0-- channels testing, none carry audio.
-Monday: 4 V0-- channels testing, 1 carry AUDIO UNDEFINED (My source thinks it an app for TiVo), rest of the channels nothing.

I don't mean to be funny but isn't this thread named coming soon.

A DNP for July 2016 seems to be stretching it a bit.
