RMs record vs AM this season...

P6 W0 D2 L4

unless they meet in the CL that is it. Diego Simeone has that club fighting!!!

On Arsenal. Wenger is obsessed with the square peg round hole game plan. There are games in which it will work and games it wont! Even at 0-1 up and Spurs fans silenced the system proved to be flawed!

Yes I wish Wenger would choose the winning tactics instead of the tactics that lost. I would have chosen the winning tactic rather than the losing one.

I think the game as Manchester City showed aside to Arsenal that we haven't seen and it was pretty pleasing. It's because of that I am less concerned about losing against Spurs. Spurs played very well and they were at home. You're going to lose games of football. We've been on a great run and it's a bit churlish to stick the boot in the moment we lose one game to a side that deserved the win.

You've been saying for years that Wenger won't adapt, he does, and then you accuse him of 'square pegs in round holes'. What tactic did you have in mind for the Spurs game? If Arsenal played an attacking, possession based, game and lost then wouldn't that have been evidence that Wenger doesn't change his tactics?

MalteseFalcon 09-02-2015 21:14

Re: Football Season 2014/15

My mum was saying it's time for someone younger to have a go. Trouble is, the only one that would probably do any good with the Arsenal squad is Mourinho in my opinion. Cannot think of any manager who would be able to produce instant results. Who would you like to see take over thenry?

thenry 09-02-2015 21:49

Re: Football Season 2014/15

Diego Simeone. Although I still believe Wenger could win the league again if changes were made. The squad isn't far off winning it so I'm not talking wholesale transfer changes in the slightest. If the team was utilised correctly it could at the very least mount a challenge.

He half arsed adapted vs Tottenham as oppose to the game vs Man City. This was a big game whatever way you look at it. Not in comparison vs Man City btw. A win would have given some momentum to mix in with the top 2 which would have been a little experience under the belts of the players but instead top 4 is the true battle once again however enthralling it may be this time around.

Well yes a win would have been good. It's not as simple as that. I am pretty sure Wenger thought that he should win the game too.

Re: Football Season 2014/15

I don't think there was much wrong tactically for Arsenal against Spurs. What was lacking from Arsenal was quality in possession, which is unusual for them, but happens. Dropping Walcott and with it taking a lot of pace out of the side was probably also a mistake, but given Welbeck's workrate I can understand it.

It was hardly a meltdown lol

I don't understand what the fuss is about the whole long ball thing. Playing a few long balls for the last 10 minutes of a game away from home that you're losing when you have players like Fellaini in the team, is it that surprising? Also, it worked so whats the problem? The team are playing badly at the moment, changing their tactics to scrape results doesn't bother me.

Said it about Leicester on Sunday when it was falsely claimed he'd been sacked, but February is far too late to change a manager. With only 13/14 games left to clinch survival it will be a tall order for someone to come in this late and take them to safety.

Personally speaking, surprised Villa haven't been relegated before now.

Looking at the fixtures and there is a useful fact for Arsenal which is they have +1 home game, 7 in total left to play in the league vs rivals chasing a top 4 finish whom have 6. It could prove to be vital.

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...02/1.jpg:large
https://twitter.com/MUFC_today/statu...59799277723649

having said that remaining comps clubs chasing a top 4 finish are in...

Man Utd - PL and FA Cup
Southampton - PL
Arsenal - PL, CL and FA Cup
Tottenham - PL and EL
Liverpool - PL, EL and FA Cup

Southampton do look in a good position with week long preparations. I reckon they could do it. I question Man Utd and Arsenal if they progress in the CL although progression in the CL could fire them up even more. Tottenham and Liverpool will no doubt apply pressure.

Well after the rubbish I watched at Old Trafford on Wednesday I thought I would pop down to Boundary Park. The Latics have been playing well recently. They have dropped the entrance fee to £5 and have their best crowd by far this season and they are playing utter tripe against a bottom four team. I may not make it to full time. :( At least the pie's are much better than United's, last season they had Hollands which are good but the Peters pies this season are poor.

Torn about tomorrow, as on the one hand if Arsenal win they have a great chance of winning silverware. But staying in the cup means they have more games to play so no chance of a title challenge and maybe even a lack of Top 4 finish.

But then if they lose they have more time to focus on the league.

I was certain he had booked him for diving!

Again we switch to a formation with 2 wide players instead of playing narrow in midfield, it totally changed the game and we started creating chances. I feel sorry for Falcao, hes getting no service at all at the moment.

Statistically United are doing fine, agreed. But the fact remains that they are playing deep and have little pace in the side. If results are all that matters then it doesn't matter how well Falcao is doing because United are in good form results wise.

Re: Football Season 2014/15

Pleased at Swansea getting a result but I can't see LVG being the right man for United. OK he's better than Moyes but his brand of slow, hoof-it-up-to-Fellaini football does not suit United. I'm not at the "LVG out" stage yet but if United don't get top-4 this season then he'll have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to keep the fans on his side.

People talk about one defeat in 19 games but most of that was due to misfiring opposition and luck rather than good performances. LVG reckoned this morning that United were the best team in the league - I've been a fan since 1985 and even though he's brought some top quality players in I can only ignore complete delusion for so long. Put United against a full-strength Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and only De Gea would be able to prevent a complete bloodbath.

Yes if MU don't get top 4 then the pressure is going to grow considerably on LVG unless he wins the FA Cup.

Just this minute got home from a trade conference in Coventry so only just seen the score.

I have yet to see a full 90 minutes of decent football at OT this season and top four will be pushing it the way they are performing.

Plus my daughter had our very first grandchild on Tuesday so have had other things to think about. ;)

Yes football is not that important sometimes in the scheme of things and congratulations on your first grandchild iadom.

Absolutely. Nobody deserve Europe from riding their luck. If United did it under SAF he'd turn on the hairdryer and ensured the team worked their rear-ends off in subsequent games, it's almost as if he took it as personal insult if games were won by the opposition getting it wrong rather than United playing well.

LVG seems to be lazy enough to sit back and accept "a win is a win" and leave it at that. Not the Man United way.

How the **** did they manage to rescue a point? By diving for a penalty. Poor West Ham.

Some poor ref decisions this weekend. Hopefully Southampton will get all 3 points from Liverpool.

Not too happy with the team selection but we have to trust RonKo.
