Never realised some HD channel variants were only available on the XL package, companies including VM still sees HD as a premium product where i see it as normal TV and SD channels are retarded HD broadcasts:(

In most cases the new HD channels are in the same pack as the +1 channels so the HD channels are as premium as the +1s

In the process of moving from sky to virgin but didnt want to loose sky atlantic sales guy offered me a good deal and told me that sky atlantic would be on virgin media within 2 months. He agreed that if it wasnt i could cancel my contract and not be tied into the 18months. Paperwork arrived today nothing on it. Phoned them up and once i got through to someone higher up they confirmed my deal, and i have recieved an email with a copy in the post with a new right to cancel.
He then told me that they have internally been given a launch date of the 27th november, not sure if anyone has a contact in vm to check this with. They seem confident, never known sky or virgin give a new customer a getout clause like that before.
Im sure people think this is made up and thats fine, im just passing on information i recieved thats all.

Yes and pigs might fly before we get Sky Atlantic.

To be honest I reckon part of it will be the broadcasters themselves see HD as a premium product, so will expect a greater return for their channels that the SD versions

I would have thought that new technology will see the end of the plus one channels. Apart from sport I haven't watched live tv since I got tivo, for example. I see the future as bring one where hd channels are the standard, not more unnecessary plus one channels when your stb is already making sure you don't miss stuff.

I promise you, you don't want to catch the first episode of Ringer. I've had to take her off my celebrity **** list after watching it. Really disappointing.

I know some would disagree, but this to me is, if not a mistake, much much better news than getting other versions of a channel we already have. +1s and HD channels are fine, but there are far more important channels missing from Virgin, and MTV Classics is one. I used to watch it on Sky, and when I moved to Virgin it was the only music channel I would watch, and was a tad upset when it was removed for another version of a channel we already had. (wasn't it either Comedy Central+1 or HD?)It is the only thing I have ever complained to either Sky or Virgin about, but all I got in reply after my complaint was a stock email assuring me Sky Sports HD would be on Virgin soon, and didn't have too much longer to wait.. After I replied I had no interest in Sky Sports HD I got a proper reply stating Virgin were in discussions with MTV regarding the future of it's Classic channel on Virgin Media.... But then heard nothing more... So now fingers crossed....

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

Excellent update as usual MB. I would love to know the contract renewal dates of some of these HD equivent channels we are missing e.g History!

I suppose channel providers are holding out for more money for these HD channels, that is why I was surprised we got SCI-FI, Comedy Central etc in HD, do VM see certain channels that are the crown jewels that they just must have?

The only thing I use on the Virgin Media website is the months TV Channel lineup page.

Ben, you say you have to phone up to activate the premium HD on the 2nd box. If you already have it will the £7 automatically stripped off the bill or will I have to call up for this too?

Thanks in advance.

"Nick_London" over at digital spy has posted this
Quote:

I asked that office myself and they said there are no plans to launch any new channels and the only confirmed channels are the UKTV HD channels as well as ITV HD channels and Sky Atlantic is still to be negotiated with the broadcaster.

Reason for the lack of channels is because some channels are restricted to Sky only due to Sky carriage contract terms other reasons are because Virgin Media don't feel that there is a big demand for them.

2 people have now posted that ITV HD channels are coming. This would be great news
I Have a feeling ESPN America HD and MGM HD comes under the catgeory "Virgin Media don't feel that there is a big demand for them"
I think we can safely say that MTV Classics on the website is a mistake. We might soon have 39 HD channels on Virgin Media

There is a huuuuuuge difference between "ITV HD channels are still to be negotiated with the broadcaster" and "ITV HD channels are coming".

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

Are you really still obsessing over those channels HD Boy? I really think you should stop posting the same thing over and over. We get that there may be some new HD channels coming but we really don't need hourly reminders that people are talking about rumors and that you would like to see those channels.

Well we shall see Matthewuk.

BenMcr 03-10-2011 11:32

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

To me that reads as two ways, either as Matthewuk thinks or as Premier Sports could be making big content announcements and are seperately they are tweeting to Virgin Media 'You know you want us'
