been reading that Diouf is in trouble again for diving against Boro.. not seen it on TV yet.. anyone know if it was as bad as against Blackburn..

Barwick the new head of the FA said he was going to clamp down on diving.. now would be the chance for him to prove it

Come on Palace :erm:

Arsenal will either trounce them or, it could be a nail biting 90 minutes for their fans if the Arsenal don't quite perform on the night, I can't see Palace winning though :(

well as a Palace fan as well I will be cheering them on.. don't forget at Selhurst Park we should have won when Lakis missed an open goal from 1 yard..

thing is i can't see Arsenal playing as bad as that this time. still they not on the best of runs and no Campbell either.. if we are on top of our game we can make them work for a result and maybe get something out of the game

Can't remember where I read this but apparently UEFA are discussing a new rule whereby only 4/5 foreign players can be included in each games teamsheet!

Thats would be the Arse and Chelski definitely screwed! :D

Utd would be ok as we have 7 first team players that are English! :D

fraid not go to uefa.com and there is info on it there.. it is players that are registered to a club or league between the ages of 15-23 for three years i.e if a young french player is at arsenal for 3 years between those ages he will be classed as being english.. also some posts above this further back as well..

as for palace we could have been 3-0 up in the first 10 mins.. played well until the first 30 then lost aki and went downhill from there.. we knew we needed at least 2 players in defence and also a midfielder but jordan won't buy anyone.. can't see us staying up and won't get promoted with that side and be even worse if a few of them go

I thought united were awesome today, quick one touch passing, also strong in defence and midfield.
It was also good to see Smith back warming up on the touchline.

The Champions league kicks off again this coming week, united hopefully will not concede a goal at home to stand a chance of getting through, no doubt that the Italians will have done their homework on Rooney & Ronaldo.

Jose Mourinho will know a bit about Barcalona, but will find it hard to beat them.

We get a replay, let's pull the yids back to the city ground.

Now, this tie has gone from a case of holding out, to one that's winnable.

In fact, really we should have won today, we had enough chances, and their free kick was not only not a free kick {Defoe, you diving c***} but also unlucky - our rookie keeper didn't put a foot wrong all day otherwise.

Yes it is - along with a few other terms I could post here which some other forum members could find extremely offensive.

Sorry, but I have never heard of it as an offensive term - I looked on Google and found www.yid.com - maybe it's is a southern thing ?

However, could people please refrain from using the term in the future so as to avoid any doubt. Thanks. :)

iadom 20-02-2005 21:00

Re: [Merged] Football talk

It is mainly used in a derogatory way but is really only a term to describe someone who speaks a certain language

BTW, following the link on that site to 'Yiddish words use in English' could explain why a lot of jewish people wear glasses.

Re: [Merged] Football talk

Yid is a derogatry term for Jews. Once upon a time Tottenham used to be a huge Jewish community, but they have all been long forced out. They went down to the to Islington and Finsbury,e tc. Curiously, closer to Arsenal. Having Sugar as chairman once upon a time probably sealed the nickname.

Most of our own football chants that Spurs fans use contains "yid" in them. we shout yids after the guy bangs the drum, and we shout "yid army" too.

It is nothing new, if someone gives you an insult, if you start using it against yourself, it no longer becomes offensive. I remember when Spurs played Ipswich or Norwich once and the away fans started chanting: "I can't read or write, but that don't matter. Cuz I come from Ipswitch/Norwich and a I drive a tractor"

They stand no chance with that encounter. I'm not being biased because I support them , or sound like a geordie accourding to Swansea, but I find it hard to see them winning such a game. It will be a good match however, and as this is the FA cup...you never know!

What p-ssed me off is the thisislondon site said "spurs to face newcastle". Erm, correct me if I'm wrong, but they DREW with us at their place, and they've got to go back to ours, we haven't won away all season but have won five at home ie we're better at home.

Also we have a decent record v Spurs as well.

So it's far from won, from their perspective- although they must be favourites it's hardly going to be a walk in the park especially if Commons is on form and we can work out where the net is in the space of a week and a half.

Bad result, 0-1, but about right. AC Milan played very well, and you just cannot miss clear chances like the Scholes and Fortune efforts in the 1st half at this stage of the competitiion. Carroll didn't really have to save a single shot until he did a Dudek. Winning in the San Siro will be very difficult but you never know.

Yep, great technical ability from AC Milan, it will be hard to get a result over there.

If AC keep the ball like they did at OT then we don't stand a chance.. it's just like all those draws we had at the start of the season. we had the chances and never took them..

Never rated Fortune but how did he miss an open goal.. and Scholes should have ripped the ball through the back of the net instead of blasting wide..

Carroll should be dropped how many times has he dropped catches like that.. and he wants more money before he signs.. let him go I say..

Ruud never even got a look in don't think our formation helped for this game need to try something different for the next game

Re: [Merged] Football talk

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Ruud van Nistelrooy will start Saturday's Premiership encounter with Portsmouth at Old Trafford.

Van Nistelrooy made a 30-minute appearance against AC Milan in midweek after three months out with an Achilles injury and the Dutchman will now step up his drive for match fitness by taking his place in what is likely to be a much-changed starting line-up.

"Ruud will be in from the start, no doubt about that," Ferguson told the Manchester Evening News. "It is always difficult coming on off the bench, especially after a long time out with injury and in a match like that, but Ruud did really well."

Prior to the FA Cup win over Everton, Ferguson said some of his senior stars would need a rest this weekend, so Roy Keane is almost certain to stand down, while Wayne Rooney might also be granted a break.

Roy Carroll is expected to continue in goal despite his costly blunder against Milan, while Mikael Silvestre and Phil Neville are hoping for a recall.

Yes I'm a bit miffed too. But if he scores the winner in the big game with the sheep shagers tomorrow, I'll hardly be complaining.

:D

Derby 4th in the table and Forest propping up the bottom.

Im guessing Forest will be playing League One football next year whatever happens tomorrow.

Krissy Commons is going to own the sheep, mainly because he's a Red and he's owned everyone since Harford brought him into the side. Kinne*r wouldn't play him in the same side as Reid and didn't have the guts to drop porky.

Megson's sorted out our defence and he seems to be making noises about the attack as well. We've only conceded 2 in the league in about 6 weeks and drew with spuds.

Add in that player for player, we're no worse than the sheep and that it's a local derby, it's very much winnable.

Rooney is the man again !!!!!!!

Nistelrooy was the weak link in the team, utd were lucky to get the victory

So it's now down to United and Chelsea for the title. Arse have done the decent thing and been crap recently, with their title hopes fizzling out early like a cheap firework :D

Re: [Merged] Football talk

I have just realised, if utd beat Palace on the 5th March, the gap on Chelsea will be down to only 3 points albeit for a few hours, they play Norwich a bit later, on the same day.

Give him a chance, first start in almost 2 months and a fantastic assist for Rooney's second.

As much as I'd hate to cheer the Scouse on, I can't see them beating Chelsea tomorrow.

I wouldn't blame him - I'd probably do exactly the same if United had performed the same this year :D

I agree it was a great assist, but I would have preferred to see Nistelrooy on the bench for a few games and then eased back into the team, the team without him have done fantastic, also I was a bit concerned the approach work might revert to using him as a target man like earlier in the season when we were not doing quite so well, but as long as Rooney is on the pitch I suppose anything is possible as borne out today.

Well look at how **** my team are and I can't get enough about talking about them.

Still a 2-2 draw, after being 2-1 up, against the sheep shagers today wasn't a bad result.

The televised game v Spurs on Weds should be w00t if we can pull it off though. Pretty slim but Commo in front of the cameras... he was unstoppable again today.

We weren't far off either, 2-1 up. Commo for England.

What a goal, Liverpool 1-Chelski 0 after 47 seconds :)

Edit, how on earth was that not a penalty when Makelele pushed Gerrard over.:(
