Re: TiVo

Well our TiVo's been in for about a month now. So

1)SCART formatting is very odd. If I set my Sony CRT to auto it comes up as 16:9 until channel change then it goes to 14:9 and stays there. If I turn TV formatting to off then it stays at 16:9 excepting some programmes switch to 4:3. Watching a recording of Futurama last night. Switched to 4:3 (great) then to 16:9 for ads (no worries) but not back again for rest of programme.
2)SCART input is shown in TV as composite. Come on should be RGB like the V+. Picture quality is a little down, especially on text. Also autoswitch is broken so TV doesn't switch back to internal tuner when TiVo off. TiVo also stops switching to other devices on same TV input. V+ was fine here
3)Some programmes miss both ends of recording. I could understand missing one end or other but starting late and ending early?
4)Skipping ahead with >| is nice. Skipping back is a real pain, very hard to get it to start where you want. The screen shows the last ad. Press play and you're watching some time into the programme.
5)I'd like to be able to resume at a known time in the programme like the V+ offered. If it's there, where?
6)Some menu screens are off the left side of the screen. Forcing TV to 4:3 makes it readable but really needs to be pushed in a little for us folk with CRT TV's and big frames.

I do like the box though. It's making some good choices for us as it learns that just because I like Yes Minister doesn't mean I like modern comedy.
Looking forward to the 3rd tuner being switched on and other features my colleagues in TiVo department have for us.

I have to say that is down right rude even with the LOL at the end of it. I really think that you are living up to the first part of you name with that comment.

Well Sky give free 250 gig to new and upgrades on some subscription levels but charge £249 for a 1 TB version so they think 750 meg is worth £249......

Virgin don't seem so greedy on that basis.

;)

Oh dear you are wrong....

http://www.sky.com/shop/boxes/1TB

Sky+HD 1TB box from £249
(Standard set-up fee applies. Existing Sky+ or Sky+HD customers may be able to choose self set-up for £15).

;)

and at bottom of your link

At £250 plus an installation fee you've got to be a big fan of TV to want to upgrade, however, that said, in doing so you'll have a box that will stand you in good stead for a couple of years to come.

In fairness though VM may well get the box back and can possibly charge again for it.

I'm afraid I'm not read the review. It's advertised as 1TB because that's the amount the customer has for recordings.
