Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
price for 10Mb right now is £38 and the download limit is 75gb (unconfirmed at the moment since nobody has passed it yet)

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
The 3 and 10Meg are one and the same at the usual 37.99 I think. Until NTL provides some sort of webpage to monitor your useage it will quite hard to truely enforce but I suspect they will roughly inforce it. I think the limit for the 10Meg will be 75gig per month.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
I was upgraded to 10Mb on the 8th, but as of yet can only get between 4.4Mb - 8Mb.
When will I know if my area has been upgraded (assuming that my Terayon can acually receive the full 10Mb) Also what does UBR stand for and how do I know what my UBR is (CM20 - Cambridge - Langley) I ran Dan Elwell's speed test, but have two problems: 1. cannot enter the correct speed I try to enter 1200000 / 512000 but get enter only numbers 2. It doesn't display my D/L due to time outs |

UBR stands for Universal Broadband Router. You don't need to know which one you're on, but you're on Bishop's Stortford uBR 3 (bsfd3). You can see the full details by clicking Start > run, typing 'cmd' (without the quotes) and typing 'ipconfig' (no quotes) - (only works if you're not using a router). |

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
re my post last Saturday regarding 10MB upgrade (12/11/2005) broadband technical support stated to me that the samsung stb was not capable of sustaining 10MB only between 5-8MB.
Alternative they suggested was to have a modem which would be installed on 22/11/2005, received a letter from ntl this morning (16/11/200) confirming the appointment and giving me my pin number. I did read somewhere that i shouldn't let the broadband set-up CD-ROM anywhere near the computer, any idear why not?. |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Up until Monday I was on the 3Mb /30 GB package. Unfortunately or fortunately as it turned out I did have reason to contact NTL CS with regard to a real problem. Whilst talking to the CS representative I decided to ask when 10Mb would be available. He told me that it was available in my area now (Northampton) and asked if I would like to be swapped over to the higher speed on the understanding that the speed could fluctuate and that I might experience connection dropouts until the beginning of December. He also told me that included in the 10Mb package change was a new 75 GB usage cap. I of course accepted his offer and he pushed the button.
I immediately remote connected to my PC at home form work and checked my speed by downloading a large MS service pack. The speed stayed pretty solid at 1.1Mb during the download which I thought was amazing. I then uploaded a file from home to work at a speed of around 59 Kb, Brilliant. Having read some of the experiences on this forum over the last few days I was absolutely amazed at the friendly no problem attitude of the CS rep. The speed at which the upgrade activated (less than a minute) and the pretty much rock solid performance of my connection so far I did mention my good fortune to a colleague and fellow NTL 3Mb subscriber 10 minutes after I had been upgraded. He called NTL immediately and simply asked if the higher speed was available where he lives (Coventry) and was told that it was. Although a different CS rep to the one I had spoken to, my colleague experienced the same friendly attitude and was switched over to the new package. We both have NTL 250 modems and neither of us had to re-boot in order to see the increased speed My sympathies to those who are having problems but in my particular experience and that of my colleague I would like to say well done NTL!! |
