I don't really want to prolong this and don't really disagree with you - however we live in the real world.

Ideally exclusivity should be banned - consumers would then have a real choice. In the current situation increased competition actually works against the consumer by increasing costs and forcing them to sign up to multiple packages - as we have already seen with sports rights.

Netflix have obviously done what they needed to do legally, and don't want to upset users by being over picky. However that could very easily change if content providers wake up to this and lean on them. And in this case it is clearly the users not Netflix who may be breaking the law.

Out of interest, any opinion on region 1 DVDs imported and played on hacked UK DVD players to make them multi-region? All my region free DVD players were bought pre hacked from reputable suppliers.

Their extra channels stream and obviously use your available bandwith , I'm not sure whether they count against your allowance. The 38mb product is probably ample for our use also.

And what about DVD content that was only available as region 1 content and only available to buy in the US? Should I not have imported my copy of, amongst other titles, La Femme Nikita, years ago and played it on my region free modified DVD player?
Like the use of DNS and VPN it is personal choice. I choose not to get any dvd's or tv shows from abroad. I also do not choose to watch Sky Atlantic programmes on torrent websites. This is not due to any major moral scruples though. I admit I have often wondered about the legality of it all, but mostly I simply do not care for the vast majority of it. The extras from region 1 dvd's (stuff I am bothered about) generally make their way over here eventually and I am patient enough to wait until they become available. I simply do not feel the need to buy region 1 dvd's/blurays just because they are available.

If others choose to get content from abroad, then that is their choice. I neither condone nor condemn their choices.

I imagine it is not perceived to be a major problem in terms of sales and so is tolerated. Major vendors like Amazon generally will not supply DVD's out of region, and there may also be issues about the supply of DVD's which may not comply with local regulatory and censorship requirements (age ratings etc.). In terms of enforcement it is a vendor rather than a user issue.

I am not sure any laws are broken by viewing legally acquired non counterfeit DVD's. However there ARE laws about computer hacking and fraudulent misrepresentation...

Its not illegal but is against the T&Cs of Netflix as that content is not licenced to be viewed on Netflix UK.

Anyway this debate should be in Netflix thread and not the Coming Soon thread, this thread needs moderators sorting it out!

A quick search of Amazon.co.uk for 'Region 1 DVDs' produced 181,796 results.

Back on topic, as previously mentioned there is the launch of the TV anywhere app for Android coming soon.. I heard next week and another poster on the VM forums says the 27th so fingers crossed we get it nwxt week.

LOL, this is a thread about whats coming to Virgin TV, not android apps. As you rightly point out though, there is a thread for TV anywhere on android operating systems. LOL.
The VPN/DNS subject should be in the Computers & IT section surely?
What has it got to do with what's coming soon on Virgin TV?

Netflix isnt even coming soon, its here so people can discuss it in the Netflix thread, is that hard to comprehend as logical?

The Android App is funnily enough coming soon for Virgin TV so a damn lot more suited to the TV section of this site considering its primarily based to enhance their TV service.

As I said, its the moderators job to run the forums, but if this thread is just to discuss whatever anyone wants too, then why bother.

Yup, as I stated in my last post, all subjects that veer away from what is confirmed as launching by VM should have their own threads then, not just the stuff you find boring. Many people accept this thread for what it is, and you have not moaned about VPN or DNS being mentioned many times previously. So why bring it up now, guilty conscience?!?

The android app is not coming to VM TV though is it? It is a companion app for android devices and it certainly won't be an app on TIVO either, what would be the point. It will be used generally when people are away from their TV and their TIVO box(es).

If the mods are happy with the discussions why challenge them? As is frequently said, if you do not like the thread, check out the changelog.

Oh, and I had chicken jambalaya soup thanks. What about yourself?
