Thanks. I asked because I currently watch using my Apple TV which outputs Dolby Digital (orange light on my amp) but previously I had been using the Windows 8 app which output Dolby Digital Plus (blue light on my amp). Unfortunately the Windows app broke with the 8.1 update so I was hoping my TiVo would come to the rescue!

If the audio is the same 5.1 mix, would it make any difference whether it's DD or DD+ apart from how it's being decoded?

I don't know. I just assumed plus would be better (closer to Dolby TrueHD) otherwise what would be the point?

This might sound like a silly question but if I sign up to Netflix when it comes to my VM area (north London) next week can I use it on both my TiVo boxes for only one subscription price?

That's a excellent question John and hopefully Ben can give us a answer.

Yes, your netflix sub allows you to register up to 6 devices.

The basic streaming plan lets you use it simultaneously on 2 devices at once (there is a 4 simultaneous device plan for extra).

Each tivo box should count as one device.

Excellent - thanks for answer :) :)

The more I read of the VM/netflix deal, the better and better it seems. Looking forward to giving it a bash when it finally arrives in Cambs. Well done to all involved in starting/finishing this deal:-)

DD+ is a better codec and gives better quality sound. It is what Netflix use for 5.1 audio.

Some older AV amps can only decode regular DD 5.1 and and feeding them DD+ 5.1 will result in stereo output.

Apple TV outputs regular DD 5.1 I'm guessing it re encode the DD+ to output regular DD. Another possibility is that Netflix feeds the Apple TV with regular DD 5.1, given that Netflix produces around 90 different encodes of any one title for various devices and streaming quality options. I'm not sure which one it is.

The WDTV Live, which I use, sends DD+ via HDMI and regular DD via optical. This is useful to me as the lounge AV amp can decode DD+ but my older bedroom one can only decode regular DD. The WDTV must reprocess the DD+ to produce regular DD via the optical output.

You know what bugs me about the update? Clash reporting. Its not accurate. Some programmes are reported as not being able to record because all 3 tuners are in use, when in some cases, they won't be recorded because they already been recorded earlier that day or week.

In other cases, the scheduled programme won't record due to a actual clash, but it will recorded at a later date.

Its misleading at times, and gives the impression that some programmes won't record at all, when it already has or will. Its kinda overkill, why not just report clashes which prevent the programme from recording at all?

That's how it was pre update wasn't it?

There was no clash reporting before now.

What's clash reporting then?

What you describe has always happened in recording hiccups.

Does it work with Youtube already? I can only see an option to pair it currently. I've got latest Android Youtube, but old TIVO software
