Would VM staff be allowed to offer discounts? It would make sense seeing as Sky are well you know.

If you work for VM, you have access to their intranet. On that intranet is a form you can fill out that goes to the Mate's Rates team (or you can just fire them off an email). This is a special offer for friends and family, but there's no limit on the number of people you can sign up or anything like that (at least, there wasn't when I was there). In fact, they once held a competition where you entered by signing people up and I think you had to sign up at least 10 people in a month to enter it - this was company wide.

I don't know what the details are now, but a couple of years ago it was 20Meg broadband (Back when the tiers were 10, 20 and 50), XL TV with a V+ box and a spare box for another room, plus phone line (not sure which package) for about £33.50 a month. It was basically half price.

 and Sky are seemingly running riot with discount codes while VM hide away. Or have I missed VM staff offering mate rates

Well that's a huge can of worms waiting to opened. If it wasn't tested during the trials then that negates the positive results?

Why does it?

If they do enable the USB you can bet they will trial the firmware update before pushing it live to everyone. Makes sense to do it this way, avoids a non-essential bit of functionality from scuppering the launch.
