It may be a daft question, but as the new billing system does not identify what you are paying for each service, how can VM differentiate and say that you could only cancel those services with the price increase? As far as customers are concerned, they are in a contract for a bundle of services (on my bill it shows a bundle price with the telephone line as a separate entry but I agreed to the total price including both elements) - you can't have it both ways - either it is a bundle with a price of £X overall that you are paying for, or it is 2/3 or more separate services, in which case show how much the customer is being charged for each service on the bill.

Pointing to the published "tariff" does not help as that again has different prices depending on whether you buy individually or as a bundle, and that does not take into account any other discounts - customers have contracted for the whole bundle, therefore the published tariff for the elements is irrelevant. When you go to McDonalds, you either buy a Big Mac at one price, or a meal deal with fries and a drink at another, it is up to them whether they put up the price of the Big Mac, fries and drink, and also whether they put up the price of the Meal Deal which is a separate pricing decision ...

Out of interest, will price rises affect Mates Rates/Retail Partner Rates as well? And if you have just been locked in for a new 12 or 18 month minimum term contract, does the price rise apply? People were also recently reporting deals agreed with retentions for 2 years - are they affected? When you take out a year's subscription to a magazine, mobile phone, insurance etc - you are in many cases agreeing to pay £X per month for the term of that contact - all things being equal (i.e. you don't change anything) the price should remain for the term. What VM choose to charge new customers, or those outside a contract, is a separate issue as you agree to the price/contract at the point you take the contract out.

Many thanks

MrB

Has anybody been following the attached thread on the VM support forums?

A previous post along the same lines was apparently deleted by moderators.

... another annoyance and yet more VM mis-communication. Out of interest, why are VM waiting for people to finish their current 12 month contract before the Tivo price rise applies to current customers (not complaining, it seems they can honour a contract!), yet not honouring the contract/price people agreed to on other aspects (as I noted above).

MrB

Because existing punters won't get the price rise in one go, as I predicted would happen. That way you think you've got a good deal, even though its a significant price rise, and they retain you. They hope you'll be on a new contract before you realise about the extra TiVo increase.

I've just totalled up what it would cost to have my current VM services with BT Infinnity and Sky and it looks like it would cost me in the region of £45 per month more that i currently pay VM

Are the phone service price rises and change of off peak time from 6pm to 7pm enough of a change to get out of 12 month contract?

Re: TV price rises

£2 rise for TV XL, £1.50 rise for BB and then possibly £2 rise for TiVo. VM better up their game as whilst their BB is very good, they don't seem to care too much about TV or phone and whilst the future is online, it'll be many years yet before linear tv is finished. VM may have posted record profits but they may also have record disconnections if they don't add anything significant to the TV packages before April.

Apparently the £5 Tivo for existing customers isn't currently the plan ...

From the Community forum:

Hi I've spoken to the TiVo team about this and they've asked me to pass on the following about this.

Whilst we reserve the right to review and change our prices to ensure we are able to continue to deliver leading products and services, we can confirm that customers that already have TiVo, or take TiVo before 28th February, will stay at £3 per month per box, and will not see an increase at the end of their 12m contract; only customers adding a new TiVo box from 28th February will pay £5 per month per box. We're sorry for any confusion.

I've updated our price change FAQ with this here.

Also could you please keep conversation on this topic to the thread that already exists on this subject here and not start new threads on this. I'll be updating that thread with the same information in a moment.

Thanks

Good if true, but it does contradict what Neil B this morning. Either he was wrong, spoke out of turn or they've changed their mind during the course of the day. Whatever it would be good if he said something to retract it.

Sounds like he made a mistake. It was certainly not the information we had.
