Former Wales captain Mervyn Davies has died following a battle with cancer. He was 65.

Known universally as 'Merv the Swerve' the number eight led Wales to the 1976 Five Nations Grand Slam.

He won a total of 38 caps for Wales and went on two victorious British and Irish Lions tours in 1971 and 1974.

His impressive career was cut short in 1976 after he suffered a brain haemorrhage playing for Swansea in a Welsh Cup semi-final against Pontypool.

Davies, who was instantly recognisable on the pitch from his thick moustache and white headband, was treated at the University Hospital of Wales for several months after the haemorrhage
Very sad to hear of a great rugby legend passing away.

RIP Mervyn

Congratulations to Wales on winning the Grand Slam.

I echo all of that. I've lost my voice now :D

I'm hoping Sexton will be superbly spot-kicking for Ireland again... but I'll be routing for England :)

Yes it would be nice for England to finish the six nations with a another win after our great victory in Paris.

For 40 minutes England held their own against a side that had only five days to prepare for the contest.

The score was 6-6 at the break but after the restart the Springboks increased the physicality.

Tries from Morne Steyn and Jean de Villiers effectively secured the match for the hosts and a late touch-down by Ben Foden was a mere consolation.

After 2 close games they could have won - what a result for England!!!!

England 38 - New Zealand 21

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/20534229

First match I've seen this year as I don't have Sky but today I managed to see the whole game at my brother's house.

England were very much in control in the first half but, as expected, NZ came back strong in the second half and scored 2 quick tries (the first after a dubious penalty call against Owen Farrell) and it looked like deja vu... The floodgates would open for sure... Same old, same old... Well they did but it was all England who ran the world champions ragged even with only 14 men at the end. The really nice things for me were a) making and converting the chances, b) terrific defence and c) calm nerves after a really tricky spell which saw them lose 14 points in 10 mins.

All in all an excellent performance which every single one of those players will remember forever!

England pulled off one of the great victories in their history as they destroyed world champions New Zealand at a rejoicing Twickenham.

Just watched it on BBC3, a well deserved win in a match no one gave the team a hope in

Yes it will be a day long remembered as you don't get many of these against the mighty All Blacks.:)

Yes - an historic victory I'd call it and against a first choice XV too. Given the massive difference in caps between the two squads, I'd say it's an exceptional win and let's hope it bodes well for the future of this young squad under Lancaster's leadership.
