S. Darko 5/10 You have to forget Donnie Darko, and watch S. Darko as a film in it's own right. Am right peeved at all the 'it's rubbish compared to..' reviews on lovefilm. It's not that bad you know, it's just a bit slow to get into, and it seems more hard to follow than Donnie Darko (!) as it is more to do with the characters that his sister encounters rather than delving into her personality and what she has been doing since he died...

Inglourious Basterds 8.5/10.

Not at all predictable, and kept confounding my expectations - v. enjoyable, not sure if it is a classic, though (may have to go see it again....).

Really good British film, starts off a bit slow, like where's this all leading to and has a short but explosive end.
Lots of profanities, no nudity & no pointless snogging just how a film should be.

9\10 from me :)

Inglourious Basterds 10/10 and will be a Tarantino classic without doubt, and also not your usual war movie with some fantastic cameos.

Even SWMBO loved it and that says a lot.

I saw that on the day of release at my local FACT cinema which also had an live interview with Daniel Day-Lewis as part of the screening.

A good movie but not for a woman.

The Final destination 3D 7/10

Great and gory deaths all flung at you in 3D. However there really isn't much to the film after that. Still follows the formula of the previous 3 so you can really tell whats going to happen, although it was pretty short and there wasn't much exploration into the characters or the unraveling mystery.

I'd go with that but with a 6/10 (The others were far better for me). Some good 3D bits though.

I tried watching that, but I couldn't get into it. It looks like it has to be watched with 3D glasses and in 3D. There's a death close to the beginning where a lass gets crushed, and it looks like really bad CGI. In the other films, you'd see blood go everywhere. In this one, there wasn't.

The other films all had practical effects, however for the 3D to look better they had to cg most of the death effects, and they don't look like there was a big budget for them!

District 9.. 8/10

A very disturbing look at the way humans can treat people who are different. It loses a point because of the extensive use of hand held cameras (which I personally don't think adds to the feeling of being there, it just annoys me). The acting is good, the story is good (although it contains a blatant message on apartheid). The special effects are good (especially the way they are blended with the live footage).

An excellent film.

It's not actually a movie, but I must say this week's story on Waking the Dead has been excellent. The story was excellent, as was the cast and direction (really kept the suspense going).

A particular mention must go to Ruth Gemmel. She played a Psychopath and was utterly convincing. As she has been in every part I have seen her in (something which lead to the fact that when she played Whitney's mum in Eastenders, I thought I'd seen her before but couldn't remember where). Quite apart from the fact she is pretty, I think she is an actress to watch out for.

Now watching Underworld: Evolution. A good actioner that has the bonus of Kate Beckinsale looking extremely sexy throughout.

Morris: a life with bells on

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029342/
http://www.morrismovie.com/

A low budget indy that's been spreading round the country by hearsay. Just seen this in Liverpool where half the audience were morris dancers - some of whom performed while we were waiting for the last to arrive. It's a sort of Strictly Ballroom meets Spinal Tap as we follow the life of Derecq Twist - England's 'best' morris dancer. Some excellent gags along the way but they're a rather well spread out for my taste. The background was accurate enough but it seemed to miss a lot of the passion and trauma involved. However, the morris funeral did strike a cord so that many of the audience were sniffling. Very funny in parts but not laugh a minute. But guys, if you're going to parody morris dancing then at least learn how to dance first!

Up 10/10

I booked tickets midweek on line, and was quite shocked by how much tickets have gone up recently, £11.55 each, so was 24.60 for 2 of us inc booking fee

that is to see it in 3d, and luxury seats at the odeon. Cineworld is a bit cheaper but wasn't clear if it was 3d, and our Pixture House we we usually go to isn't showing it, and if they do it may not be 3d. (shame as it's 16.50 for 2 adults there)

However, it was money well spent :)

As usual the short before it was both very funny, and looked stunning.

Up, also looked stunning, was really funny, and a good, albeit bizarre story Happy The story kind of reminded me of Anime, it was very Miyazaki -esque.

I'd strongly recommend it, and the 3d works really well, all Pixar films look stunning anyway, but the 3d is really well done to improve the look of the cartoon, it's not a gimmick, I think there's only 1 or 2 things flying at your face moments

seeing The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus tonight, I hope I enjoy it more than Moldova did! Missus is a big Gilliam fan, I like some of his stuff.

You should enjoy Lily Coles bits:D

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus 6/10. It was ok, I think Gilliam has some wierd and wonderful ideas, but can't always excute them in film particularly well all the time. Missus enjoyed it more than me, so maybe for the Gilliam hard-core only?
Lily Cole was nice to look at though, made up for "Anton's" crap acting.

Hanibal Rising 9/10 much better than the movies it prequels, shows why Lecter turned into that person.

Yeah and it weren't too bad, better than 5 for sure. I like the Saw series and 5 was the worst of the lot, I'd say if you liked 1-4 you will like this one for sure.

So I'd give it a good 8.

This Is It - 8/10 Really looks like that would have been one seriously amazing concert!

Zombieland - 9/10 so funny and I almost thought it better than Shaun of the Dead

Saw VI - 8/10 very good and really explained a lot of details that were unknown from the first 5 films!

Thanks. I'm watching it tonight and looking forward to it. Over the past 2 days i've watched 3, 4 and 5 as revision, lol, and you're right saw 5 is the worst. My fave, just for the nature of the tests, is 4. I'd give 1 to 4 8/10, 5 gets 6/10.

Up 3D 9/10

Good film, didn't really use the 3D that much in the film though, the adverts probably benefied from the 3D more.

ugh.... i watched it and nearly died on a number of occasions, like when they had an argument and left the house with the camera still recording and something starts walking down the stairs then stops and then a big gust of wind blows through the room while the ouija board moves on its own then sets alight... *gasps for air* and don't even mention the sheet scene.

The majority of new 3D film dispense with the traditional, stuff coming at you and instead give depth to the film you are watchng so it feels more that you are in the room with them rather than you getting poked in the eye by something, lol.
