Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

The thing is though is if they remove it and then sell it as a standalone subscription then there are going to be quite a hole in their XL pack thus they would have to fill that gap with something quite considerable and if they don't then in my opinion they will lose quite a fair amount of customers without BT Sports being there thus my hunch is l think they will do a deal on the cusp of the new football season.

I think they mean the XL package which I think they renamed the Premuim package last year but let's hope the Daily Mail are right

Like us. Knock a fiver off and make those who like sport pay for it as a separate pack.

If it meant more discount on XL.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

It's not just the BT Sport they put into the XL pack, it's most of the decent HD variants too :-(, they should be moved to the L pack really. I don't know if this would mean their packages would give more value for money though...

There are several channels on XL I never watch and never will but it is a good mixture and if it does VM good to have BT Sport included then hopefully the new channel will be included too...

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

I personally have no interest in HD channels so if i could reduce the XL package by a fiver and just have SD i'd be happy. Again its just personal preference on the XL. Some other channels i'd be happy to have removed if it meant saving money. But we all have something we like on XL which is why we're subscribed.

Lets face it if bt sport is removed we're not going to have money taken off the XL price. Its going to either stay the same or keep going up. There will never be a price cut.

They may try to get sky atlantic instead and i wouldnt have any interest in that. all preference people lets remember

Yes, Vince, but they could put a package of other channels with Atlantic and people would be saying that's a good deal.

At the moment, XL customers who don't watch sport are not getting such a good deal at all.

No interest in HD channels :confused:OMG...you deserve a black and white tele for that comment :D:D:angel:

What's the point of having a HD tele if you not going to get the most out of it. We should all embrace HD to make it standard. SD picture is just terrible!! lol

I'm going for a 4K TV shortly, so I have to agree with you.

And come on Virgin, embrace the new tech!

I've got my eyes on a 4K tele, but I will have to wait a bit.

LG, 55" Curved, 3D, Smart, 4K with OLED screen - £3,700.00, the mrs won't let me have it :td:

But to be honest, nothing wrong with my one at the moment lol, I just wanted a 4K tele haha:D

And you never know, VM and BT may come to a deal in the future over the BT Sport 4K channel...I'm hoping anyway.

I agree :) With the amount of HD teles around and with people buying new ones everyday, there is no need to section off the channels and lump them into the XL package. I know VM want us to pay more, but if we do get the BT Sports channels I don't see why they couldn't shift the HD channels into the lower packs.

First BT Sports.....next Sky Atlantic mwahahaaha :D

That would kind of confirm what I read in different places too.

I know the new 4K enabled boxes will cost us more to have them installed and probably a higher monthly fee than the Tivo, but it will be good to see VM keeping up with the technology that is becoming available...and with their bb speeds, VM should have no problem running 4k netflix from their new boxes ;)

It was also give the customers more choice of what box they would like.

We was told early this week "expect a new TIVO box towards the end of the year." by our sources.

Africa Channel set to remove from Virgin?

Africa Channel is not broadcasting as of 2pm today on Virgin Channel 289. But started up again on Sky yesterday.

Media Boy HQ has no info that time of posting on if Africa Channel will start broadcasting again on Virgin Channel 289 or is set to be removed by next Thursday along with Sky Arts 2 and Sky Arts 2 HD.

Also Sky Sports has confirmed that Sky Sports 2 and Sky Sports 2 HD will be rebrand on July 1st as Sky Sports Ashes and Sky Sports Ashes HD until September 1st.

But many people have 32" TV's or less and at common viewing distances, the advantages of HD aren't as obvious.

It's the same with 4k; unless you're planning on a 60" plus TV, the advantages are minimal; The extra money is probably better spent on a better quality 1080p set. But of course, you don't get the bragging rights with a 1080p TV.

We've had this discussion somewhere before,,,

IMO. The biggest liklihood is that BT Sport Europe is an ADDITIONAL channel to BT Sport 1 and 2. and we will have to pay a nominal fee to get BT Sport Europe while 1 and 2 stay free to XL customer.

of course that's all speculation.

These things are often a trade off between functionality or speed.

The Tivo VM have is getting a bit long in the tooth processor wise. But it's still fast enough for me, and I wouldn't trade it's functionality for a less functional, faster box.

For others, it's speed that counts.

Not sure if there is any truth in what i was told by a VM guy who came to change my box yesterday.

but he said there will be a new Tivo box but it wont need a smart card and that the reason why they are stopping the cards is because the company that makes the cards have gone under.

how much of that was true im not sure.

Hmmm ....

Nagravision has been adopted all over the world. I think you can safely take the claim that it has gone under with a very large pinch of salt!

I still remember one vm engineer trying to tell me linux wouldn't work on vms network i burst out laughing in front of him.

Why, oh why do we the customer get ripped off by companies dealing in sports.

BT Sport are a disgrace, they know that silly fans will pay this sort of money. So why don't greedy clubs reduce entrance fees to the ground, for fans to attend

If BT Sport want to waist money, that's there problem. But WHY make he fans pay

Because most will continue to do so.

They don't care about fans or fairness, they just care about maximising profit.

31 quid a month though,is it worth it? I`m not convinced really. Still to decide though. Once I see the games on offer I`l probably stick with Sky sports or get Now TV Sports pass if games really are un-missable

If you have BT BB & TV, you can subscribe to SS 1&2 for £22pm. SS 5 is included if you have the BT Vision box but not on Youview boxes. Rumor is that SS1&2 will be available in HD on the Youview boxes in the coming months. My mate across the road just signed up and I had a look this afternoon. He has the Youview box and its very snappy indeed.

The youview box is what plusnet use too it is indeed very snappy, don't be surprised to see sky and bt kiss and make up in the near future and selected sky channels arrive on bt and plusnet tv, i say plusnet as they're owned by bt.

No i am not MB, MB has his own sources. Also our way of putting things is completely different too.
99.9% of the forum users can tell me and MB are completely different people, guess you're just another one of those idiots who like to take a swipe to try to make yourself look clever but end up looking rather silly in the process.

I most certainly wont pay a fiver, for BT Europe. Yes, Spurs are in Europe, but l can probably get it streamed somewhere else.

Not only that, l don't like where they have the logo, it spoils the viewing for me. All the other broadcasters have it at the top of the screen,. Why do BT they are better.

Well don't subscribe then simple, you want it pay for it like everyone else has too even BTs own customers have to pay for it (except bt tv) so why should vm be any different?
For the record a lot of American broadcasters have the logo in bottom left or bottom right corner of the screen.

No only bt tv customers get it for free, those who only have bt broadband who get btsports 1+2 and espn free will have to pay for bt sport europe.
I'm a bt mobile customer i get bt sport 1+2 and espn for free but would have to pay £5p/m for bt sport europe.
As i get champions league anyway via foxsport i kindly declined but if i didn't have my usa services i wouldn't mind £5p/m extra tbh.

I think you're right, when BT TV and PlusNet TV get to a significant base there will come a point when it makes more financial sense for Sky to wholesale its channels to BT and take the extra revenue than to withold them.
I'm surprised that Channel 5's Spike isn't on VM yet. I'm less surprised about Universal HD as I don't think LGI has that strong a relationship with Universal.

TLCHD, CIHD, HISTORYHD, FOXHD, COMEDY CENTRALHD, DISCOVERYHD, ANIMAL PLANETHD, EUROSPORT1+2HD, SYFYHD and MTVHD . These are the internet hd channels on plusnet, i wont list the sd channels lol. The terrestial hd channels are bbc1hd, bbc2hd, itvhd, channel4 hd, 4+1hd, 4/7hd, bbcnewshd, aljazeerahd, qvc+1hd, qvc beautyhd (both a waste of valuable bandwidth imo), cbbchd and cbeebieshd i believe all these are on vm?
I think most of the hd internet channels from plusnet are on vm too except for historyhd and CIHD, i think historyhd will arrive next month on vm.
Makes you wonder though if a company as small as plusnet can get historyhd then why haven't a company as big as vm got it yet?

Sky has made no secret of its desire to add the entertainment channels and Sky Sports via Now TV on Youview. I highly doubt it's in a rush to add it's channels to the BT platform via wholesale.

Isn't it because VM tend to add channels as contracts come up for renewal?

Irritating practice, but if it keeps our bills down to negotiate the whole lot together rather than price individual channels, I guess you can see why.

Media Boy Views: What channels from UPC Ireland may launch on Virgin Media?

We think Virgin Media may launch the following channels in all areas:

-History HD
-CI HD
-MTV Classic
-Disney Channel HD

We think Virgin will NOT launch any of the following channels:

-Fashion TV
-EWTN
-UCB Ireland

The YouView forums state that Sky decided not to launch its Now TV live portfolio of channels on YouView due to YouView's charging structure. Apparently YouView's per-live channel charging structure currently makes it unviable. The technological barrier which existed at the launch of YouView was removed a year ago.

Do you have a link to that? I ask as i find the youview forums a bit of a nightmare to navigate and according to the NowTV forum they're still hoping to launch the entertainment channels on youview.

This is the official line

The charging structure was one of Sky's many frustrations with Youview along with it's slow development , the technological barrier you talk about still exists with Youview saying around 3 weeks ago they are still working on this.

That's an old article so may or may not still be current.

I think the barrier was unicast which was implemented last year?

I can watch the entertainment through the FireTV box but it isn't a smooth experience seeing as i have to use a remote, or i could use my chromecast but i'd prefer it through the one box.

But again, that quote was from 8 months ago. I dunno, if it happens it happens.

Regarding the link that theone posted above, i think that's already happened as the SS passes have been withdrawn from being available on TalkTalk Youview.
