All areas are expected to be updated by the end of the week if everything goes to plan , there's been a few bricked Tivos though so the update may be extended into next week.

@Max -nothing confirmed yet mate.

Probably a lot less for the edited daytime broadcast versions that will be shown;)

But I do know that News 18 is set to launch sometime next week (November 11th - November 15th.)

I think that to launch any new channels during the Netflix roll out might be a step too far! I would hazard a guess that we won't get any more launches until the week commencing 18 November at the earliest, unless the roll out is concluded this week, although I have no source for that.

I do know the date that News 18 is set to launch on but I am holding it back until I can get an confirmed channel number - The info is not on any 'Do Not Post' order.

Media Boy EXCLUSIVE: Virgin Media to add News 18 - should launch on November 14th.

I can now reveal that News 18 should launch on November 14th Virgin Media. Still no confirmed channel number.

MB Thinks: News 18 will be on Virgin Channel 626 or 833.

because most people are unlikely to pay £4.99 for one channel more than they currently pay for. (Atlantic is the only channel that is in the Entertainment package that Virgin don't have).

To be honest Virgin Media and Now TV are totally different demographics. Now TV is for people who want premium tv but don't want to pay a premium or be tied into an 12 month contract. Virgin is for those who want access to everything and are willing to pay and be locked in for it.

If Sky were clever (which they clearly are not) they would do a deal for Virgin to have the Now TV app on Virgin Tivo, but Virgin would say no. This makes wholesaling the channel to Virgin Media makes perfect business sense.

Do sky really need the extra revenue, thought they made shed loads of retail subscriptions .

Why would adding an app to TIVO be clever , Sky's wholesale deal with VM nets them far more than they'd ever get through the app as many of the subscriber base wouldnt bother with it.

Cause Sky can offer Atlantic to VM customers and reap the money themselves rather than cutting the cost with VM and VM saying they have atlantic

Look at your poll results , not many people would bother making wholesaling far more lucrative for Sky and a preferred option for VM.

I never know anything but sky atlantic will eventually come to virgin media. It's inevitable. It'll be either when costs for the shows goes up and they need to cover costs, a new boss comes in with a "ground breaking new strategy which involves making tons of money quick or hbo turns around and says they want sky to increase viewership etc

Just like sky with held the basic channels because it made sense at the time these things will change again.

Just how long it'll take is anyone's guess

The channel is coming up for it's 3rd anniversary, with only 2 years left under the existing HBO deal.

Let's see what happens. The channel might not have a long term future ;)

I think you're right chad. No organisation wants to keep people from a channel. Adverts = revenue and that's how every tv company except the bbc plays. Sky have a reputation for being *******s aka tough to negotiate which is why channels are missing/ have been in past

It hurts sky in the long run. The "sky don't need VM" argument doesn't really work. Remember sky want to make a ton of money. They're starting to realise VM customers currently aren't gonna move over to sky without sky losing a ton of money on deals. It's a stupid policy. VM agree. They lose so much money. The real target audience is people who don't have subscription tv but stay on freeview

So many of these people are out there. They're the money customers now. Sign them up flirt with them with sky Atlantic etc on now tv. Get a fiver off them a month. Brilliant untapped market. A fiver ain't expensive. Easy money to make off an audience who are shy to move to subscription

Sky realise people on VM aren't gonna be seduced by another subscription service around same price

Sky Atlantic as the golden goose to draw people has failed. Sky know this. They just wanna save face a bit now and get something reasonable

Very true that sky are greedy as hell, they will want to make as much money as possible.

Its certainly true that they don't tend to advertise Atlantic's exclusivity that much anymore, remember when it first come out they ran that Dustin Hoffman advert every two minutes it seemed.

I can see Netflix getting the next HBO exclusive deal, which will be good for us. Sky's own business plan must be identifying this changing market and they will need to be extremely smart to adapt over the next few years without losing a shed full of money in subscriptions and advertising revenue.

Without HBO, Sky Atlantic is in trouble, and if Netflix and others also grab the film rights from studios as existing deals come up for renewal, Sky will have to think about the implications of that for Sky Movies.

I'm sure they will come up answers as they usually do! As far as Atlantic is concerned, I expect they will put all their US dramas on there in the future and put home made shows on Sky 1 to replace US programming on that channel. If the 'Strikeback' series is anything to go by, this could be a successful strategy.

Sky 2 needs a re-think and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a re-branding here. Pick TV should start showing more good programmes during peak hours that were shown on Sky 1 up to 10 years ago. That wouldn't cost them too much and would enlighten non subscribing viewers to what they have been missing on Sky without existing subscribers being resentful and wondering what they were paying for if newer programmes were shown on that channel. This would reward Sky with increased advertising revenues emanating from the bigger Freeview audience.

Sky Movies is different though, and will require an alternative solution. Although they could just rely on showing more films over two years old, they would need to lower their prices, which would be a good idea anyway, given the introduction of Netflix (and Lovefilm at a later date) on VM. Lower prices, in turn, would increase subscriptions.

Incidentally, if I were making these decisions at Sky, I would ensure quality British programming during peak hours on Sky 1, and Sky Arts 2 would be the new Sky 2, with a few changes. This would be a bit more in keeping with the BBC 1/2 model and would transform the perception of Sky for the better in terms of quality broadcasting. It would be a good way of encouraging customers who do not currently go for pay TV to take the plunge.

That's right, and they are paying an awful lot for it, with diminishing returns in terms of new subscriptions. I am sure we must have reached the point by now where additional increased revenues available from advertising when VM viewers are given access will outweigh other considerations.

To be fair that article is 2 years old, a lot changes in that time in this game.

Yes, I did see that. But these days, with Netflix adding more original content, they are becoming more like rivals than potential partners.

I reckon they'll announce something once the roll out is complete. There must be thousands who have the update and aren't fully aware of what it entails, but if they announce it first then they'll doubtless have thousands wanting to know why they haven't got it yet.

Think the update thread and extrapolate!

Looks like it's just a mix of stuff atm but they're supposed to be launching a few gaming shows to including live playthroughs etc.
Filmon.tv itself is a way to watch tv channels online similar to catchuptv service.
Was surprised to see them launch their own channel on Sky though.
