I tend to think that website reporting are probably using this website and making stories on this, which in turn gets reported on here which only increases the speulation.

only confirmation we have is:

1) ESPN SD & HD will be removed as of 1st August 2013

thats its im afraid, no SA, UK Drama, Skysports 3 + 4 HD, BT, ESPN.

I love to be wrong but that is reality at the moment and nothing I seen changes this, it doesnt help when people wildly speculate regarding meetings and convesrations based on hearsay. What one person says to someone doesnt make it fact.

I would love to be wrong

Thanks Media Boy, a good point and on this grounds it does look a little more promising but would they still need to test even though they have spare capacity after the olympics and could they test something when there isnt a contract in place?

Looks like everything seems to be up in the air ATM, as VM are making it very clear ESPN will no longer be on VM come 1st August thanks to messages on TIVO, and on the customer service line.

I think if VM don't get BT Sports come Thursday, it is unlikely they will do anytime soon.

Then they'd better drop the price of XL or lose a large number of customers.

The only thing "coming soon" to Virgin is customers ringing in on Thursday threatening to take their money elsewhere if things don't change.

Although I hope Virgin have some sort of backup plan if they don't get BT Sport from launch....:erm:, note that I said "hope" and not "sure".

I spoke to someone and they said, there won't be any change as ESPN was offered free of charge. The guy was trying to be smart, but we all know it wasn't free at all in the long run.

You can't blame VM for rumours not coming true!

If I post on here that VM are launching a 4K, 8 tuner TiVo next month and it doesn't happen it's not there fault is it?

johnasimmons 30-07-2013 15:38

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

Ok, to the point and no peeing about here - what the deal probably entails is that VM cannot announce the deal with BT Sport until the last possible moment as BT want to maximise people moving to BT Infinity broadband for as long as possible; in that respect we might not hear anything until tomorrow evening or even not at all - we might just find the BT channels on our V/V+/TiVo boxes on Thursday :)

No, but failing to communicate with their customers is, and this has led to most of the speculation.

As some have mentioned they maybe keeping quiet as part of an agreement with BT over their Broadband offer....

Well if bt sports doesn't arrive or sky Atlantic or what ever channel your hoping for. Ring 150 cancel your services and take your custom to bt or sky. Simples.. and if your in contact wait till it ends and then go. Virgin might then realise they messed up

If they have nothing to say what do you want them to say?

All they can say is, "watch this space" and they get hammered when they do.

It they don't have the services you want then take you custom else where and get the services you want. If they say " your in your contract" then at that point start shouting. ;)

The worry is that they haven't misjudged there customers bud for the past 6 months they have been pushing for people to upgrade to xl and VIP tieing people Into new contracts and also if you notice the half price deal finish Wednesday very crafty in my book and I think you will see in the small print that it says they can remove or replace channels without breaking contract so there are a lot of us that will want to leave but won't be able to :(

MutleyF 30-07-2013 15:58

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

I dont think Virgin have messed up. You cannot blame them for trying to get the best price for the channel - if this is what the delay is over.

Even if they had it, do they increase the price of the XL package to cover it (which I would object to), or do they have it as an add on (seems the fairest way to me)

Either way, they are damned by some on here no matter what they do.

Maybe they are testing them right now - Think about it.

BT Sports 1, BT Sports 1 HD, BT Sports 2 and BT Sports 2 HD - that Four and DS Forum says that Virgin has been testing Four channels called 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'D' for the past week.

Said all that over a week ago,but they really are vain to expect customer to be happy to see a big selling point for xl to disappear and either a price decrease or something adequate to replace

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

Maybe, however, they also added several channels recently at no cost. The channels were not my cuppa tea, but some others seem to like them.

I personally look at the content Virgin deliver more than the channels in an case.

I probably would not watch BT Sport if it was included at no cost (unless there was my local team on it), but I did enjoy watching the old Prem Plus channel when we had it

young_timbo 30-07-2013 16:37

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

I would expect Virgin to get the best price for themselves, up until the launch which is now. If they still haven't done a deal today I would expect them just to accept that they lost, and immediately agree to whatever terms BT are offering. And bring it to the network in some form weather XL, VIP or Sub. So that people can watch the Premier League. Nobody in the country should be denied access to it from whatever tv provider they have. The Premier League is the pride of the country.

VM in the final analysis is a business and would only just accept to lose if the sums gave them no option i.e. the potential loss in revenue was greater than the costs of accepting the offered contract.

IMHO if the Premier League is the pride of the country then God help us all.

Then god help us all because no English product comes close to the popularity of the Premier League either here or abroad. That's just the facts.

Yes if they accepted 1 deal for 1 channel which is a small drop in the ocean for the billions and billions they juggle it would put them out of business. do me a favour.

I must say I don't really buy this 'deal done, but no announcement, so more people switch to BT' line.

Why would VM go along with something that encourages customers to leave, even in the short term? Would a collusive agreement like that (to actively mislead customers) be legal under competition and/or consumer law?

And how would customers react if, having been told by BT the channels won't be on Virgin, they switch to BT on Wednesday only to find them popping up on VM on Thursday? I know all the telcos have been told off by the ASA at one time or another, but that is surely pushing the limits...

I suspect each side is holding out till the last minute for the 'best' commercial deal; at the end of the day VM 'need' BT Sports to keep customers happy, and BT 'need' the income to offset some of the costs of the rights they have purchased. Otherwise, it is a very, very, very expensive way for BT to promote their broadband service.

I think we have established you want the channel. You do however seem to fail to understand that they will not be held to ransom for the best price.

They refused to pay over the odds for the Sky Basics, and so the channels disappeared.

The world did not stop revolving because of it. True they probably lost some customers, and my missus lost her beloved 24, but ..... I believe Sky needed Virgin more than Virgin needed Sky, and I honestly believe it will be the same with BT.

None of us know what the delay is, or what the reasons are, but I am sure Virgin will deliver the goods eventually, but at a price they can afford.

This isn't some **** pot company we're talking about, this is Virgin with a turnover of billions and billions a deal with BT Sport can be done if they want to. depends how greedy they are at the end of the day. they will be under orders to try and get the best deal i understand that. it's their job. but come launch I would expect they just swallow their pride and get the deal done by hook or by crook. otherwise they are clearly crap and deserve to lose their customers.

Exactly but people expect something to replace the channels they are losing and if nowt arrives then their phones are going to be much busier then usual from Thursday onwards....

none of those things are as important as a channel that carries 38 live premier league games. that is what we have on this forum, a conflict of ideals between people who understand the importance of that and people who see live premier league games the same as an episode of 24.

Fair point. :)

It's not Virgin, It's Virgin Media. All the different "Virgins" are different companies.

If VM where to buy BT Sport at a silly price and bundle it with XL they could be out of business within the year. If they buy it at a silly price and then charge the customer that price people would rightly point at the Sky deal and complain.

They just can't spend silly money on it, no mater what.

Yeah... lets have a '24' channel instead. All those millions that they pay to footballers could be spent on new episodes of 24. Far better than watching some air filled leather ball kicked around.... ;)

I think VM are at the wind-up, and have been constantly monitoring this thread like a secret service MI5 agent, laughing at all the desperation shown by some posters, there's been so much speculation about BT Sport and, quite frankly, their quite pishy 38 games, don't get me wrong i'd love to see it on Virgin, but i'm really not that bothered because their line up of games is pretty crap imo.....:td: I would of course love to see Atlantic on Virgin, but again this seems unlikely according to some of the posts on here...:(

The importance of the Premier League games on BT is an opinion which seemingly varies from person to person.

I'm sure whatever BT are proposing is fair though. if it's not, which i reckon is unlikely, then stick it at £15 a month and let us have the chance to pay. who cares about the sky deal? that little deal which ended days ago you mean, or a new one? i'm sure Virgin customers who like sport would prefer the chance to pay rather than not have any chance at all.

even if Sky has a better deal. who is going to say "ok well i can't watch my team play tonight, but Sky customers have a better deal than i WOULD have had here on Virgin, so ultimately i'm not bothered" :spin:

what the f kind of logic is that?

if you want to watch the footy you will pay. that's how it works. non-sport fans won't understand.

What is important is the balance of the customer base. Those that see Football as an important part of their TV package and those that don't and Virgin probably have a more accurate picture of that than anyone on this forum.

Believe me when I say I hope you get your BT Sports. If it is a stand alone extra or a carriage deal like with Sky then all well and good. However, if not and the likes of me have to pay significantly more for our XL package because of it - then VM could lose a lot more customers.

the fact is you are wrong. they have 18 first pick games. these are games that would have been on Sky last season, on BT now. that's kinda a big deal.

also Sky have overloaded their picks. wait til christmas onwards. united vs liverpool and arsenal vs chelsea will be on it before the season closes. the merseyside derby is on it for a start. this is a game that was never on Prem+, Setanta, or ESPN. never. ever.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

But there's not just the Premier League or niche American Sports that are an issue, well, not for me.

I've been a fan of UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) for a few years now, and whilst this is shown deep in to Saturday nights (live) and probably doesn't resonate with the masses in the UK, it is one of the fastest growing sports in the world right now...and no, it's not WWE.

Whilst I understand the delay in unraveling all these machinations, it's a right pain to, possibly and probably, miss the upcoming event this weekend and over the summer when the UFC goes into overdrive when itself moves to FOX Sports in the US. If BT Sports is not automatically available by the weekend or at all on VM over the summer then that's a deal changer for me.

Hopefully, VM will be mindful of the following in the UK which they have built up single-handedly of the UFC.

Wouldn't it be easier to just say goes all day on Sky ? Unless you know of another satellite platform that broadcasts TCM + 1 from 28 East.
