I'd say the most impressive figure is the amount of Sky+HD boxes now connected to BB , 3 million in the last year with nearly 5.7 million now connected representing over 50% of customers.

As 'Showcase 3' has been rebrand as 'Info TV+1' and has also changed Sky EPG numbers, moving from 875 to 395.

I guess its safe to discuss now :D

Sky enhances Britain’s most popular TV Guide with brand new recommendations feature and launches Smart Series Link

Quote:

From today, Sky customers will start to see a raft of new features from Sky+ which will be rolled out to its Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), Britain’s most popular on-screen TV guide.
With this latest update, it will be easier than ever for Sky customers to find shows they love with the launch of a brand new recommendations engine. The new feature provides suggestions of TV shows and movies that a customer might enjoy based on recent recordings and downloads in their Sky+ Planner. So for example if a customer has a recording of The Following in their planner, recommendations might include Luther, Hannibal, Criminal Minds and The Blacklist. Results offer up both linear TV and on demand shows as viewing options, from hundreds of TV and movie channels.
Sky TV customers need never miss their favourite shows ever again with another new feature launching – Smart Series Link - as it now remembers to record the next season and all subsequent ones after that.
For sports fans, a new Sports tile has been added to the Homepage, providing quick access to all the live sporting events that are currently showing on any channel. Sky customers will also be able to see movie DVD cover art for Sky Movies On Demand and Sky Store so they can quickly recognise the movies they are looking for.

Sky admitting that the Virgin TIVO box had some good new features. Sky will be hoping their implementation works better with their bigger content library.

I like the multi format , it was a pain before with duplicates it rendered the most popular and featured sections virtually useless , now each asset has the option of download in SD or download in HD it makes it much less cluttered its good to see more catchup sections added now unlike at the start.

The problem for many is the glasses , we have two 3D TV's and I must admit we rarely use 3D these days but I guess for us that's more to do with the lack of content.

How big will 4K be ? I'm not convinced purely for the fact I can't see many UK homes buying sets big enough to appreciate the extra picture detail.

People have been asking for online downgrading for ages , the facility is already available and has been for sometime on Now TV.

Most offers for Sky Movies are added to your My Sky or mailed out to the customer.

Now TV movie pass at £9.99 is cheaper than Sky Movies on the satellite platform or it can be had even cheaper if bought as a bundle with the Now TV box.

You can get virtually any content you want over the internet without paying , personally though I'm happy to pay for services what meet my needs , each to their own I guess.

I don't blame anyone for reviewing their sub's as premium content is getting more and more expensive and the choice is getting greater , I tend to play one service off against the other it usually nets you a discount.

This is the first time I have come across this. I checked some other Eps in On Demand and they all have an option to Record.

Is this a bug or is there something special about the Ep in question?

Its because Criminal Minds S10E01 has already been sent to the box , basically the Old Showcase section for those who don't have their boxes connected to On Demand.

No hd content added yet but there again there`s no hd content on the BBCi player either (on the vhd box). Rather odd that it`s a hd box that doesn`t give hd on demand for BBC and ITV!

I'm sure it will be competitive with other mobile offerings , it also offers them a 10 million plus subscriber base with which to upsell their mobile deals.

I'd say there all scrapping to retain customers as competition comes thick and fast.

The more competition the better but they will still be trying to get that extra buck on top.

"The focus on portability and user-friendliness has been prepared with penetration of 4K screens very low, in spite of prices coming down rapidly."

Of course there isn't get take up of 4K, because there is not enough content available, and people are waiting to see what Sky, Virgin Media, BT are going to produce in 4K and how much more will it cost them to watch it.

Re: General Sky TV Discussion

I would say portability is of more immediate importance for the likes of Sky and VM , with Netflix and Amazon already offering their content on a multitude of devices with cloud bookmarking this is badly needed.

Its on-demand service Now TV, allowing customers to watch Sky content without taking a subscription, will be relaunched later this year with a new look and next generation box
Is this right or are they getting confused with Sky bringing the new 4k Sky box forward?

I'm not sure it wouldn't surprise me though , Roku in the USA are working on a TV with 4K capabilities using HEVC codec so you'd think a box with similar facilities would also be worked on.

Sky could easily introduce a new Now box with higher quality streams using the h.265 HEVC codec which is more efficient than h.264 for both HD and 4K content.

Edit: I suppose the only problem with using HEVC for HD streams would be that Now TV would be incompatible with current devices being that they aren't capable of handling HEVC.

They've managed to get David Attenborough doing documentaries for them and I though he was welded to the BBC.

Is he making them or doing voice overs?
