As ever it depends on the material but overall the PQ has been as good as Discovery, to my eye anyway.

Of course unlike Discovery HD it is a direct simulcast of the SD channel though so isn't 100% native.

Thanks mate, though about to be shut down by Virgin Media staff mafia and the mods on here. Seems as though is no freedom of speech on here and Virgin staff hiding behind their user names can say what they want to customers as long as they put a disclaimer on their profiles.

Can't be bothered trawling through all the pages since I was last on, but am I right to take it that virgin didn't launch any channels today? Beyond parody!! Joke as a evolving tv provider!

Past experience suggested it was very unlikely anything would happen on a Wednesday, and on the 30th of the month.

Have heard it's difficult to launch any channels of note if it's a bit rainy, maybe that explains nothing in the last 6 months. Ah well maybe the summer:rolleyes:

Lets say this, when Richard Branson took part in the big sell for VM, l thought VM was there to take on Sky for everything, that seems to have bit the dust.

VM have got to get channels for there customers, ie HD channels out there, and there must be loads that are NOT on the Sky platform.

VM could be proactive and help broadcasters launch new channels but it appears they are not in the business of operating channels in the long term, personally I actually think that is wise.

But I don't think it much matters if there were 100 HD channels around, it's whether VM can afford to carry them and their inflexible pricing structure seems to suggest they cant.

Lets be dead clear, whilst they have 29 HD channels in total 12 attract a fee and 5 are non subscription channels. They only carry 12 inclusive pay channels in XL which is great but I just don't see that massively increasing anytime soon if they stick to their pricing model.

We'll see.

They made a pledge to offer more HD inclusive earlier this year, so I can't see them stopping the XL inclusive HD. The price rise will help fund them too .

I think customer expectations should take into account how VM market non premium HD, it is simply unrealistic to expect VM to try and mirror Sky's HD offer. VM have chosen their model and in one way it is great, but you get what you pay for.

ESPNA HD is a great example, that particular channel has such a small reach, typically 0.1 - 0.2% that it would be crazy for it to be offered on anything other than as part of stand alone premium basis as on Sky.

I firmly believe Denphone is an employee of SKY who is on here to cause unrest and disruption with his bleak outlook. If he's not an employee of SKY, does anyone know where he lives? Someone really needs to go round to his house and remove all sharp objects and the laces from his shoes before he does harm to himself. If he is so downbeat about something a simple as television, God knows how he deals with life’s bigger issues i.e. burning his toast or missing a bus?

All jokes aside, here's the Samaritans number if you need it Denphone:

Personally, I'm confident that VM offers a very good service and is the best value and option for me. So, people coming on here being critical of VM doesn't bother me. In fact it's good to have people pointing out the VM weak spots.

Maybe you guys don't feel as confident about the good service VM offers?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.

Before long VM WILL charge for HD, for the simple reason is they need revenue, and they cannot keep putting on channels without increasing prices.

If l was a businessman l would totally revamp VM, to keep on the backs of Sky, Sky is a major broadcastor and is making a mint out of there customers, but there again they have more channels than VM and can keep placing channels on the network.

VM don't do this, they will remove channels if they are not to there liking, the customer is the person that keeps companies rolling, so l don't know how VM are making money - a £1.00 increase here and there, won't make any money will it.

What's the point of making VM into another Sky re HD pricing? People have options now.

Personally, I'd rather have slightly fewer HD channels for free than a few more for a substantial extra charge.

I have HD multi room. From sky that adds just over £20 a month on to a bill; with VM, just over £6.

An extra £14 for a few extra HD channels? No thanks.

When a company makes money, its the customer that pays that money, VM need revenue to supply the channels.

I cannot see VM making any profit, on the charges it makes for everything they do, I am certain that VM have to pay for the HD content it gets from companies, I am sure there not getting these HD channels for nothing.

I thought the channel pays VM (apart from PSBs). This gives them greater reach and therefore the ability to charge their advertisers more.

I might be wrong though (Although this has never previously been known). :)

Surely VM go find the channel and offer to buy the the service for it customer.

VM don't provide the service that the consumer wants, THATS you have so many customers on this forum complaining about the lack of channels.

What l am saying is that VM will not be as big or a strong contender against Sky until they have channels that they can poach customers with.

Cable Tv is just a second rate tv service, whereas other countries ie USA, they have thousands of them.

At this point, Il'd accept a ton of channels like Babestation over absolutely nothing from Virgin, seeing a chick with her tits out every night will calm my desire for new channels and my urge to join Sky

Seriously, so do Virgin pay operators to join their EPG, or do operators pay Virgin? I cant understand why cheap channels as in not so good in quality ones like Pick TV + 1 and the rest of the CBS channels arent on the EPG yet, surely these are bottom tier channels that wouldnt cost anything really to carry?

Also, although I was joking, why doesnt Virgin carry those channels lonely Virgins ring up to speak with Chicks with fake boobs?

Virgins lack of investment in their TV service is dissapointing.

It is now being reported that the asian channed Zing is being removed tonight.

As Colors is rumoured to be launching tomorrow is this yet another example of channels being removed from VM in order for others to launch even though they continue to broadcast on other platforms?

Maybe when Tivo launches.

BizAsia also says ''Insiders have said Virgin Media was not keen on Zing being sold as part of it's Asian Mela bouquet when it is available free-to-air on rival, Sky Digital. The same applies to B4U Music.

ZEE Network and Virgin Media refused to comment on the rumours saying that the decision was "a mutual agreement between both parties". ZEE Network further added that the removal was "temporary" and it may re-launch on Virgin once mutually beneficial terms have been agreed.''

Yes it has gone.

Yet again VM giveth with Colors and take away with Zing.

Strange they seem to be concerned that a FTA channel is included in a pay package after all this time, sounds like a load of tosh to me.

It seems clear VM are following a path of adding premium channels, of the last 20 or so channels that were last added to their line up how many were premiums?

An off air slate is broadcasting confirming it's removal saying B4U music provides similar programming which is also a FTA channel on Sky, why didn't they remove that too?, in fact why not include Zing in M+ if they are worried about in being in a premium package.

Sounds a load of nonsense to me.

They have added 14 premium channels relatively recently, how many basic 'pay' channels have been added to XL in the same period?

It goes back to what I have suspected for a while, the pricing structure simply dosen't appear to allow for it.

Virgin cant just move an channel from one package to an other.

Virgin and the owner of the Channel need to sign an new deal.

But they can remove it altogether!

Seriously though surely the deal must have come to an end to remove it, don't they usually just agree new terms in those circumstances.

Anyway what's done is done, Colors will be a great addition but it's worrying that some new additions of late seem to be followed by the removal of other channels.

Or perhaps VM charge Zee to much for carriage?

No one knows the procedure of channels getting onto the VM network, it has been asked many, many times on here.

Unlike Freesat and Sky which are both open platforms and publish their tariffs in the public domain, I accept they are totally different types of platforms though.

I think Virgin agree new terms late last year to carry all the Zee channels but only an SIX month deal to carry Zing to give Virgin and Zee more time to agree new terms for Zing and that deal was up last night.

It's a shame, people on DS seemed genuinely excited by Colors arrival but then find one of their other channels get's canned.

Never mind, six months is never long enough for VM to strike a deal ho ho!

The only thing Coming soon is our price rises and more vague dates and false promises if you look at their track record in the last nine months.
