Had my TIVO installed this morning at 8AM

First box was dead on arrival, all the lights were on and stayed on :(

Engineer had no other TIVOs in his van, but got a colleague to deliver another in under 20 minutes, I'm sure the tea and biscuits helped :D

Took around 3 hours before the EPG updated for the next seven days or so

SD looks just a little bit worse than my old SA V+ but I don't miss the Blackpool illuminations on the front of the old V+

Find some of the SD screens a bit disappointing when you switch from a HD menu to a SD one

Taking a while to get used to it, there is so many options but thanks to everyone on here with all the tips that aren't in the instruction book :tu:

Well SD PQ softening affect has now been confirmed as a fault and requiring a firmware update in the next release, see other PQ thread or link below for statement.

Toady - should address the slight SD affect you referred to, I have a softening affect on my Sony TV so this will help me as well. It has not affected everybody only some, but at least the cause has been found.

True this is a line form the post over on the VM TIVO Forum:

As this update also contains new features, it will be a few months before we're able to release it

I am sirprised that they can't put the PQ fix out as a separate update.

If you read it, they basically need real people to test it, tweak it and test it some more, i bet on monitors the poor pq is hard to replicate

It may mean creating a new code instance and testing programme (in parallel with the code instance that is being developed), and perhaps the feedback on the issue has not been severe enough to warrant this?

Fair point, but the inference i get from the post is that it's in the Cisco box firmware and they've identified the cause. I know they need people to test further but as soon as the PQ issue was resolved, I'd have thought they'd have sent the update.

They obviously must have their reasons, as the PQ issue has put some people off getting Tivo and some people (not many I suspect) have actually returned Tivo because of SD PQ, so it's in VM's interests to get it fixed and on boxes ASAP.

Doing an update to only fix this would significantly delay all the other lovely things you want. So the decision has been taken to do them all together instead.

Anybody who wants the fix early is free to apply to become a beta tester.

Less channels. :mad::D

And steering very quickly back into the TiVo Bus Lane......TiVo write the software in the States. VM have to gather feedback from us, send it to TiVo, who write the software, test it, let VM test it, VM find issues, get TiVo to fix them, who test it again, let VM have a play....

.....repeat until VM is happy to unleash updates to us customers.

And then we find issues, send it to VM, who contact TiVo.....etc etc.

Indeed. It's not really any wonder that updates aren't particularly quick in coming :)

They may have sent or got a team over here? Do not forget that TiVo were over here before and still are till the S1's get shut down:confused: This may be wrong but it is IMHO:erm:
