Re: Will my modem support 10mb broadband

My Terayon modem only has a 10Base-T (half duplex) network connection, so would I be correct in assuming that 10Mbps is a little out of the modem's league?

I didn't know that it was a race. I am quite happy with my NTL BB and appreciate how much thay have done in the past couple of years. We are being promised even more improvements at no extra cost so I for one am delighted. I will get the improvements when I get them and it doesn't bother me in the slightest if someone else gets similar improvements before I do.

They dont just get it before....they get it cheaper and uncapped. I think ntl need to really look at this!

no-one's beat anyone yet have they? unless you can tell me of any NTL or Telewest customers who have had their speeds upgraded to 10mb? perhaps when you can give me a Telewest customer on 10mb that's when NTL are beaten. It looks to me like TW quickly copied NTLs idea.

I've been paying £25 for BY 1 meg BB when NTL customers received 2 Meg for that price for quite a while. This sort of thing is always going to happen.

But the ntl 2mb had a cap so you cant really complain.

Why? I never even come close to the cap, so it doesn't affect me.

Good for you. But there are people who it does effect.

ntl 2mb has a soft cap :erm: so far i dont think one person has been contacted for going over the 30gb limit which i personally have gone over many times. Also bt does have a cap which is half of ntls which is 15gb as far as i know

Yes i know. I am making the point that ntl customers will be paying more money (£38) for a capped 10mb service when telewest customers will get 10mb for cheaper (£35) and uncapped. Telewest are also rolling it all out in september and ntl are doing it at the end of this year! I DONT LIKE IT IF OTHER PEOPLE GET A BETTER DEAL THAN ME! :(

So why don't you move to somewhere like Sweden or Hong Kong where you can get an even faster connection for a cheaper price? :dozey:

Ntl and Telewest are not competitors. They can do whatever they want until such a time as the two companies merge.

As it stands when the 10MB services come in I think the customers of both companies will be getting a deal better than 90% of the competitors.

Actually Telewest announced a 10Meg trial back in March with their Q404 results, it might be other way round. http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_...esentation.pdf look at page 28. Anyway Telewest's offer seems a lot better than ntl's.

Even when that deal is from a company you have at this time no hope of getting a service from.

I knew this thread would become a reason for some to come out of there hiding places to complain about anything NTL try to do to improve things. So until such time as someone does get the 10 meg service i shall be blissfully unsubscribing from this one and let the rumours mongers and wingers continue to knock down anything that NTL do to try and improve the service you get. And for those that want something more, There is grass on the other side why not go see if it is better.

And just to repeat something i said before

Quote:

It happens all the time. No matter what NTL offer there will be those that complain. I can bet you now if we offer free broadband at 100 meg with no caps, There would be those here who would complain and say we should pay them, Do the downloading and burning for them, And run them to the computer fair to sell there dvd's.
