Re: Football Season 2014/15

Well, I cannot believe what a turn around there has been at Stevenage over the last month. 5 wins out of 6 league games has put us right back into the Playoff picture. Hopefully this can continue until the end of the season.

I'd settle for a draw later between City and Arsenal. Don't want either team to get 3 points, but on the one hand I don't want Chelsea winning the title and on the other hand I don't want Tottenham getting Champions League football. So tough.

Twenty years! I was there that night. Funnily enough in the ground I don't think anyone thought it was that huge an event, Gareth Southgate scored in a one all draw. Maybe for those closer to it but I was opposite. Only afterwards was it obvious what a big story it was. We went on to play United at Villa Park in the FA Cup semi final that season and sadly a Palace fan was killed outside the ground.

I know where we got Bamford from mate, and he came in as a youth player, now he's out on loan. The majority of them will move for the money these days. Like it or not, that's the way it is now.

Arthurgray50@blu 24-01-2015 22:43

Re: Football Season 2014/15

I actually went to the Spurs game today. And being a Spurs fan for over thirty years, l was totally appalled at the way they played.

They went 1- 0 through a penalty, then just played as though they were going to win. Then plucky City got the goal they thoroughly deserved. And typical of Spurs, they conceded in the last couple of minutes - and then they put Kane on with FIVE minutes to go.

It really annoys me that, fans pay an awful lot of money to go to games - where players get thousands of pounds per week - and yet clubs just don't give a damn about the fans, as long as they get money through the turnstiles.

I went to the cup game with Sheffield, and they played the same way. Disgraceful.

Like some fan said on the way home, If Nicholson was alive today, most of those players, wouldn't be playing, and its just about money.

Like young English players throwing their careers away for cash dangled far to early, like having larger clubs harvesting huge swathes of young players that other clubs have developed for peanuts, like having big clubs circumvent ffp by charging loan fees for 30+ players in one seasons, like big clubs stockpiling young English players just on the off chance one might break through, no mate I don't like it, don't like it one bit and just because things are so heavily tilted towards the big clubs now doesn't mean it'll always be and if enough people moan about it things will change again.

Well all those things you don't like, are all within the rules. I'm not aware of us charging loan fees for the youngsters, just that all or part of the wages get paid, and I've no doubt every club does the same. And in the case of our players on loan at Vitesse, they might not even ask them to pay any of the wages. Youngsters with potential all over the world have always been gobbled up by higher league teams, and always will be. And I wouldn't get your hopes up about enough people moaning for it to be changed, none of the football authorities anywhere give a toss, they never do, or will.

You're joking, the epp thing has made things worse than ever and was so close to being rejected by the football league, clubs there are shutting down academies in protest and a lot of it is to do with the advice young players are given, they might earn 10k a week but it's undeniable that they'd develop better playing competitively against men week in week out instead of getting lost in a big clubs development squad, the pfa should represent kids not agents, they're not old enough to sign a pro contract then they don't need an agent. You don't think west brom paid a fee for lukalu a couple of seasons back for instance?
