It's about time Chris the forum team deal with some of this nonsense posted. A forum is a platform for debate not insults and childish retorts. Everyone is allowed an opinion without fear of ridicule.

Rumours i've heard suggest it will be included in XL hence why VM are moving some channel into lower packages to give more value to the packages.

Yeah that would make sense, just hope that happens before my free trial runs out.

If it does come included in XL will be a good selling point for Virgin Media.

Yes indeed and presumably I just cancel my payment mandate if it does? I signed up on my Tivo last week....

Many thanks to all peeps who have helped me over Netflix. Most helpful as I was rather ignorant of what it was and how it works.....

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.

Time to contribute a little positive karma I think. This is a bit of a ramble, but worth sharing, I hope.

I mostly lurk on CF. Happily so, and I actually just registered to say a few encouraging words to many of the regulars who post on the Coming Soon thread, in the wake of the recent distasteful trolling.

Its always been clear to me that the purpose of this thread is about snippets of speculation, rumour and opinion. It obviously has to be this way, since everyone knows Virgin do not pre-announce channels launches etc much, if ever.

Information is shared, bounced around and no-one especially cares about the final outcome. Perhaps it is proved to be true. Or partly correct. Or incorrect. The fun is in the sharing and debating. Its a good, positive use of a forum.

But for those who complain about such things as reliability of information, can I suggest the issue is not with those who share the information, but rather that you aren't quite getting the welcoming, good natured culture/tone of the thread?

It is one of warmth, shared wry humour and a self-mocking light hearted tone. (If some cannot see the deliberate humour in Media Boys "Media Boy HQ" and "Media Boy Exclusive!!!" hyperbole, then they need to lighten up a bit).

For those who complain about the reliability of rumours and tips, I say c'mon, same advice - lighten up! You aren't OWED anything by the regular posters. Take the information in good spirit, regardless of its accuracy. Who CARES if it proves to be mistaken?

In recent weeks far too many folk have said far too often "the trouble with this thread is....". In fact, there is nothing wrong with the thread. It was ticking along nicely before all the whining. And will do again after the whining dies off.

And that's because at its heart, its about a bunch of cable tv enthusiasts jawing over bits of speculation in a fun, well mannered, cheery environment. Lots of camaraderie and corny jokes. (Den's constantly upbeat "patience is a virtue" quips, Dave's Victor Meldrew perspective on the Sky Channels, Vince's dependence on updates to alleviate his job boredom and so on).

Ok, rant over. I'm not going to mention the appalling troll stuff, but to those regular posters who exhibit such constant good humour and patience, I say thanks as a lurker for the banter you maintain in the thread and more power to you all.

To those posters who seem constantly dissatisfied with the contributions of others, can I urge you to just lighten up and remember this is a bit of fun. If the absence of concrete insider info rubs you the wrong way, its not going to get any better and maybe its not the thread for you. (but you'd be missing out if you leave)

And, of course.......

All Hail Media Boy!!

Yeah cancelling Netflix is easy as pie as its not a contract, more than likely there will be a way to link both accounts possibly.

Brilliant post, spot on. I enjoy reading this post and getting the updates of what is going on. Some good, some bad. Enjoyable banter is good for all. Brings a smirk to my face. The trolls just need to crawl under the rock they have come from and remember that this is a forum for people to enjoy and digest information.

I've lurked for an age Vince. CF is on my list of daily catchup websites. And I've seen the "Coming Soon" regulars weather all sorts of silliness. But its also good to see some folk stick around and make an effort to tune into the chilled mood of the thread.

This won't be a flattering analogy, but first thing on a Tuesday or Thurday morning, plus most evenings, it a pleasure to lurk and catch up on events...or non events :D

I'd liken the regulars to a favourite pair of slippers....or the cast of CHEERS.

(Media Boy is, of course, Cliff Clavin.)

Cheers for the info, hopefully it comes fruitful.

If it does come off, it's going to be an interesting 8 weeks or so for VM customers!

  • Missing Sky Channels
  • TV Anywhere Android App
  • Netflix App rollout
  • TiVo F/W Update
  • Few other channels

If they do come all off, we can be assured it has been one of the better years for VM for a while, though I'd expect that after the amount/size of price increases we have had over last year or so.

MB, can't remember where I read it but Channel 4 haven't actually got 4+1 licensed, it's a joint license for the +1 and HD simulcasts. The only new licence they got was 4Seven HD

Do we have any ideas on tivo roll out timetable still??

Now this is the reason I have a 1Tb Tivo box. I stopped watching X Files after season 6 I think for no real reason except for I didn't have the time. I always wanted to watch them all the way through, but I was waiting for a Blu-Ray release. This will do perfectly in the meantime.

I also don't post much here, but I am a daily visitor and I really appreciate the info that is shared here. If it weren't for this site I probably would have missed BT Sports launch and I wouldn't even know about More 4 HD as it's so far up the EPG (same with FOX+).
Keep it coming guys, even if you are just teasing us with DNP's. I like to see that Virgin & LG are being pro-active when it comes to channel listings.

Ok guys, as per the thread title this is about channels and other things coming soon or rumoured to by coming soon.

TiVo software updates really should go in one of the existing TiVo threads or a new one if it doesn't fit in there.

There is also no need for the congrats or similar posts when someone gets the update.

Ice is in Series One. I love Fire as well. But I think Eve was a truly superbly dark and disturbing episode.

Looks like they are showing one show every weekday. Hopefully that's a good sign that they will be showing more than just the first series. However that will be a huge test on my Tivo.

Remember Lifetime's only in SD on Virgin at the moment and shown twice a day 09:30 & 16:00 (it isn't prime time, therefore not too many clashes). A 24 episode series won't use much more than 3-4 % of valuable disc space.

That can't be too taxing for TiVo!

The X-Files is only shown on Lifetime HD in SD also according to the Sky EPG.

The X-Files is only shown on Lifetime HD in SD also according to the Sky EPG.

X Files was shown on tv way before HD became the norm and afaik wasn't shot on film so they couldn't make a HD version. Unlike STNG and Friends that was shot on 35mm film and then scanned in at 2K or 4K and transferred to 1080p.

Ahhh I mean't purely on storage space. 24 episodes would be 16 hours and 9 series is only 144 hours. Maybe it won't be such a strain on the TiVo just trying to find enough time to watch them all (I am assuming that Lifetime have the rights to show all 9 series.)

There has been talk for a long time about the X-Files being remastered HD. I've heard they are planning to start releasing them early next year.

An old article, and the rumours I've heard about early next year come from some blu-ray and HD forums, but I can't remeber which ones.
