Just kidding :) As I've said before it'll get here when it gets here

I'm the same, I pre-registered on the 1st December and I haven't recieved a raffle ticket or an e-mail, I am on VIP 50  Hopefully tomorrow :)

Re: TiVo

mmmh.... got my 50Mb upgrade today at 2:30ish.

Two minutes it took;
.... Grabbed the modem, replaced with superhub, connected to my PC and scarpered !

No network connection.... access denied.... for a good hour.
Phoned support and they kindly tried to get hold of the installation engineer to come back.... couldn't get hold of him so it was allegedly left with the engineers manager to get the engineer to call me to return....

Did he call back? What do you think.

Finally,... how, I don't know,... got a connection locked (although any change in router settings reset the hub losing network for another 1/2 hr a time.)
ended up with a 'stable' connection around 6ish.

.... took me till now to get all my network points changed over from my previous router settings.
My music server was locked to ip addresses that were previously assigned by my original router.... luckily had a laptop that hadn't been changed that I could connect via old router to 'unlock' my music server.

would have been so much simpler if the superub let me change its ip address/range to that of my old router.... but oh no...'computer sez no'

So, to my point (by way of a rant about shoddy installation staff :td: ) if my TiVo install is anything like that, it's a bloomin good job I have previous experience of TiVo.

At Virgin Media, our customers come first. That’s why we’d like to offer you the chance to order your TiVo service before it goes on sale to the rest of the Great British public which we expect to be in April. What’s more, we’ll make sure you’re first in the queue to have your service installed, with priority installation, just for Virgin Media customers.
........... We’ll be in touch around the end of March !!!!!!!!!!
Priority, eh?

I've got to call the TiVo team tomorrow to book my install.

I've just got a funny feeling that all isn't going to go to plan

Can I ask if you were an S1 subscriber or one of the original 1 in 1000 people. I ask because two people at Virgin told me in the last 24 hours that these were the only people to get the box. when I queried why other people were also getting it I was told that they weren't and that my sources were either wrong or lying :dozey:

not seen anyone in our part of the world saying they have been contacted yet .... so not sure its actually 'nationwide' or regional so far

BUT to say "be the first" is a bit of a joke ... the first were the staff ... the second was s1 tivo owners then third was lucky lotto winners .. then appears random peeps have been contacted in fourth wave ... now raffle appears fifth wave and finally those left out will be the SIXTH wave in late March just before being opened out to the public at large

I have been with Virgin more years that I can remember, from cable & wireless days, but I agree that they should have co-ordinated the release of Tivo much better than this or at least kept everybody informed of what the actual roll out schedule would be. I feel very lucky to be getting one next week, I will post my thoughts on it once I have had a good play with it.

This is the latest comment from Neil Berkett this morning which suggest that it is being pushed back more and more for some customers, in essence most people will not see it until the end of June. The U.K.-based group, which reported strong fourth-quarter earnings Thursday, will start the commercial roll-out in the second quarter of 2011, and will move "more aggressively" in the third and fourth quarters, he told Dow Jones Newswires. Virgin Media will market the product heavily in the second half of the year.

Re: TiVo

Sorry but all this talk of waves / rounds / not be contacted yet, it's as people believe they have been deliberately slighted by Virgin.

Tivo's issued to staff - first wave no - beta test yes.

Tivo's issued S1 customers - Second wave no - Contractual obligations yes.

1000 lucky winners - Third wave No -Start of roll out to Virgin Customers Yes - another round where you were slighted? Or were you included, just not successful?

No proof that 'random people' have been called. People who have pre-registered have started to get calls.

All people have not yet been called. People who have been pre-registered entered into another prize draw.

Will people who pre-registered be contacted before other virgin customers, as per the email people have been receiving.

So, will you be one of the first 'Virgin Customers' to receive the new Tivo box? Yes if you pre-registered.

Before we get into arguments into what first means, in this case it has to mean the group of Virgin customers who pre-registered. Nothing else was inferred by Virgin on the pre-registration website. It was a site setup for people to register ther interest in the new Tivo service

It does and cannot mean you will be the 'first'.

Date wise I'm not sure if there where any firm dates given by Virgin when the roll out would start or when all of the pre-registered customers would be contacted. The only date I know of is the end of March date as mentioned in the latest email.

General roll out starts April - Q2

Some perspective. We all like to have the best things we can afford. However, those moaning about being left out and having to wait seem no better than kids in a shop wanting the latest must have immediately. Sometimes, demand outstrips supply - so why not wait so that all the minor irritants are sorted?

Frustrating to wait, yes, but in a world full of poverty, people suffering in war zones, losing their homes in natural disasters, waiting is hardly difficult, is it?

and that just shows how the rollout has been mishandled in my opinion ... those that disagree have that right and can defend VM till the cows come home but i am entitled to my opinion and i am entitled to post it

@ jamiefrost .... first wave - beta test - second wave - contaractual obligations ... all your doing is changing the wording not the fact that the roll out has gone in stages and that those who got the email and get left to last will be at stage 6 not among the first ( i dont class as being after the first 2500 (10%) being one of the first ) ... i may be being picky with my interpretation but as a paying customer i am entitled to think what i wish

i have never accused VM of deliberately leaving people out but i stand by what i said .. the roll out has been mishandled by VM and yes random customers including those that have not registered are being contacted ahead of those who did register

The problem Is I pre-registered and am a VIP50 customer and yet I have no ticket and no e-mail. on top of this I received this e-mail a couple of days ago and I just don't where I stand;

Quote:

Dear Mr,

The CEO office forwarded me your email.

As you may have read already, We'll soon be offering all our VIP 50, VIP 20 and XL TV customers (who also have Virgin Media Broadband and Phone) the chance to become one of 1000 lucky customers to win a special TiVo deal. You will receive information about this prize draw over the coming weeks , giving you the chance to win a complimentary TiVo box.

The first prize draw was also a random selection from a list of our customers. As you can imagine, we can not give a complimentary box to our whole base, so a prize draw is the fairest way we can approach this.

We have ensured that your details are on the list for the next prize draw.

We are also continuing to prioritise our existing customers to make sure they are the first people in the country to get a hold of this fantastic new service

Regards
Am I in the draw or aren't I, She states I am in it but if I don't get the ticket and therefore don't register, will I still be in it. I just don't understand.

getting away from the fact some are lucky and some arent ... a more serious question that no one can answer but opinions would be welcome ....

i notice on the raffle ticket T&C's it says one year free tivo sub and after the year you then pay the then sub price if you keep the service .... so.....

who thinks that along with sky increasing prices each year that VM/tivo may see this as a cash cow and start increasing the monthly sub year on year as they have made no comments on keeping the monthly sub at a low level

IMHO i do actually see this happening and although it wont be huge increases each year and may take a couple of years to start but the sub will go up and up year on year

i did not say that .. i was asking about the future .. whats to stop them increasing the price each year by even 25p a month ... makes them big money over a year .... this all assumption of course and i was trying to start a decussion on whether it could turn into a cash cow not unlike skys model of yearly increases

Edited addition ...

also i though the £3 sub was actually for the tivo service not just for VM :)

This is very true, so if demand outstrips supply why are people who didn't pre-register getting in before those that did?

When we pre-registered it was stated in no uncertain terms we'd be "one of the first", yet people who didn't pre-register who therefore logically wouldn't be "one of the first" are getting it ahead of those that did.

Using supply and demand is an explanation for a throttled roll out, it's NOT an explanation for why VM seems to be ignoring who actually pre-registered and just rolling out to whoever they feel like.

Re: TiVo

Contrast this to how the TVdrive was launched by Telewest..

We registered interest in it when it arrived.

Soon after they phoned people up asking if they were interested in testing the box, free installation and half price rental £5pm for 6 months during the test phase. Maybe it was different back then (less internet = less people interested) but id did seem to be handled much better.

Seems a bit of a cheek to me to asking for £149 for an product still in development.

You can argue if you like but having seen the list of things yet to be implemented to say this box still isn't in beta is a joke. It's not even at release candidate stage for the people who have it. The beta team appear to be more like alpha testers.

They had to cut down 10 trees to produce your paper bill; how could you let them do that? :D

But more importantly, it costs more to have paper bills.

No flames from 'tree-huggers' please; just kidding.

No email or letter yet; registered and triple XL.

I can care less about semantics of what the testers are called, the fact is there is still MAJOR updates to be added to the box. I'd almost bet at this point there is no chance the 3 tuners will be updated in march to all boxes if the so called beta team don't have the update yet.

As for the draw.. so VIP customers appear to not be in this new draw?

So as a VIP50 customer for 7 years, who registered interest on Dec 1st.. we're basically not even in the second draw, and will be contacted the end of march or basically a week before anyone can just phone up and get one anyway? :td:

then again its VM we talking about and informing customers is not their strong point

I only said it to clarify that VIP customers haven't been left out ;)

Everyone that is entered into the draw will be notified, so how it's spit doesn't really matter

Just to clarify then.. VIP customer draw is separate to the one where you need a code to put on the web? And we won't need a code?

Cozzy 17-02-2011 16:16

Re: TiVo

so we guess at there being 2 further draws before end of March

1 draw is by raffle ticket and is for XL TV with BB & phone package for 1000 tivos

2nd draw for VIP customers but we dont know when as we havent been told yet and we dont know if its for 1000 tivos or 10 or maybe for free subs for life

clear as mud then :p:

only kidding and not having a go at anyone in particular just trying to forget my DWP woes for a few mins

I know that currently you can only have one TiVO per account until future public release.

However can someone who works for Virgin Media confirm that if I am one of the 1000 picked, I will be able to choose to have it in my bedroom.

Simply because my parents downstairs record alot together on the guide and so it wont be suited for them until the box gets the 3rd tuner patch.

No. The draw works in exactly the same way for all those entered

However Virgin haven't completed the notifications yet

i would assume thats just "one free winning box" and that if you win you can pay for extra ones :)

they are not gonna turn away extra business if your willing to pay the price just depends on what price they ask at the time :p:

yeah well i dont object to lucky draws or raffles ... its actually a good idea ... they just need to inform people what they are doing BEFORE they do it and not let forums be the leading edge of providing information

my mind is already made up ... i wont pay for tivo but i wont refuse a free tivo but i would actually like the opportunity to say yes or no to an offer ....

as i stated earlier in this thread i do have a sneaky feeling that maybe after a year or two that VM/tivo will see the product as a cash cow and start upping the prices quicker than customers would expect but obviously that is pure speculation on my part

we shall see in time

Well what ever the situation there is still plenty of time to get it in March. Say testing of it started next week and lasts two weeks. And rollout was the week after. It would still be March :)

What is the £3.00 charge for ? Ok the TIVO box gives you reccomendations but this sort of thing is already available on the Sky website (remote record)or Sky+ iPhone/iPad app.

Nobody targets the staff they do a great job , people just get disgruntled with the firm and it's decisions from time to time.

It is the monthly subscription charge to keep the box enabled just like a V+ Vbox.

XL do not pay a monthly fee but the lower tiers do so it looks like it is a cross tier charge for TiVo.

im guessing that if you have a tivo box but are not paying the tivo sub you still get the recording capability and the full 1TB HDD ... it sounds like you loose the extra functions like apps and search facility by not subbing but i stand to be corrected

I expect the fee is to enable the TiVo functions at a guess but I see no other reason for it at this time.

If you decide not to subscribe to the V+ service then the recording and playback function is no longer accessible.

:shocked::shocked: now that would be pretty silly IMHO ... to disable recording function would be to make a tivo box a standard VHD box and would mean quite a few customers mumbling and a grumbling and more questioning VM's decision making

It would depend to what tier you downgraded to as only certain tiers have HD content that is paid for, if you stay on that tier the would be no reason for the HD to no longer work.

Well if you did not pay the £3 would you really expect them to let you keep the functionality, you lose V+ functionality if you decide no to pay for it.

So when you factor the £3.00 TIVo charge and £7.00 HD premium charge your paying the same as the Sky HD sub CLEVER.

The £7 is for the HD sports channels, not every has those and that is £7 per box.

Also for £3 you get a very different box to any SKY HD box.

Re: TiVo

actually yes i would ... there is no reason why they should reduce the service we currently get just because of a new box ... the £3 should only be there for the extras above and beyond the function of existing V+ boxes

Additional ...

the removal or charge for the recording ability would actually be the one thing that could drive me away from VM back to sky .. and i suspect i am not the only one who would think that way
