Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Anyone know if ESPN will show any championship games?
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Well, it appears to have generated a lot of debate, no doubt we'll get confirmation tomorrow. :)
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Until we can get an official answer out of either ESPN or Virgin this is just going to go around and around.

I would imagine that the website is driven by a database of sorts and so may not be 100% clear when updating information on the server side. The extra football boxes were added some point this afternoon, after the Virgin deal was announced by Virgin (ESPN America announced this deal a few days ago) and have included the Virgin information. Never know a forum to get their knickers in so much of twist. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Stuff tv thinks we are getting premier football in HD. I dont know if that counts for anything though.
Edit: and from broadcast now:- Virgin Media is to carry ESPN’s standard and HD channels in time for the upcoming Premier League season. ESPN and ESPN HD, which will screen 46 Premier League matches in the 2009-10 season, will be made available at no extra cost to XL customers, along with ESPN Classic |

Well i'm convinced now we will have PL HD... great stuff.... i dont even like footie its just the principle of the thing... LOL

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Wouldn't it be funny if sky blocked the HD premier league games to virgin as part of an agreement to provide the HD coverage for ESPN

As I see it everything on VM's sites indicates we'll have the EPL and SPL in HD, so I'm pretty confident, I honestly can't see VM taking on a HD sports channel that doesn't let its own viewers watch the best content of the channel in HD. If that were the case I'm sure to avoid flak they would've just signed the SD version, having said that I'll be mighty pleased when either Ben or Media Boy allay our fears tomorrow with a good news post. Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
The deal was only done yesterday,So espn have not updated there website yet.FXHD web site says only coming soon to vm and that starts tomorrow,Think these rumours are being started by sky hd folk who have to pay £9 for the privilege lol.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Somebody asked if ESPN will be showing any Spanish La Liga games. The answer is no, unfortunately Sky hold the rights to La Liga.
And regarding Championship games on ESPN, again, no, they are primarily held by Sky, with the BBC holding 10 games a season, which will be shown on BBC HD. The only major football ESPN can still get hold of is the FA Cup. |

More news to come from Virgin Media - This week.
- News on what's happening with the remaining channels left from the old Setanta offer - like Racing UK and Arsenal TV. - And, look out later in the week for more news on TV - including how Sky is changing their premium channel prices (For Sky Movies and Sky Sports) and how it will affect us. Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Is there much coverage of NBA games in the UK? If so, anybody know who shows it? Ta.
AWESOME news about HD though, and a decent selection I'd say. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Setanta showed the NBA finals this year so maybe ESPN will do the NBA in 2010. It would fit in very well alongside MLB and NHL.
Excellent news about ESPN being in XL and also that ESPN Classic is finally going to appear on VM. It's been the biggest missing channel in the VM line-up. Am I right in assuming that ESPN Classic will launch on Monday when ESPN launches? |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Yes ESPN Classic will launch on Monday
And I have it on VERY good authority that ESPN just haven't updated their website properly yet ESPN HD on Virgin is EXACTLY the same as ESPN HD on Sky :D |

What I would like to know is how can ESPN launch 2 channels on Monday ESPN and ESPN Classic, but have to remove ESPN America. Surely they can leave ESPN America alone and launch ESPN Classic at a later date.

And with the Football due to start in August ESPN need to start an ESPN UK Channel up using ESPNA Sky's EPG Channel number. ESPN America will reappear on Virgin TV in the few months time when ESPN has took over an EPG Channel on Sky. |

just to warn people..
National Geographic HD doesn't start broadcasting each day until 8am incase you are wondering why it's not working. FX HD doesn't start broadcasting each day until 7pm incase you are wondering why it's not working. Its a shame repeats aren't aired on FX HD during the day:( |

I had been checking the EPG all week uner HD but nothing was coming up. Today I have the channels although i'm not on XL at moment.
Will check the EPG later and then see if there is anything on there I am likely to watch. Good news on the HD channels though and nice to know there are more coming in the future |

|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Live in my area but no film.
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
They are live here (Colchester) but MTVHD and NGHD only show up in the HD section of the EPG not in the general EPG (IE MTV doesent come up under Music and NGHD doesent come up under Factual).
Minior problem and I am sure it will settle down. Well done VM |

Saw your posting regarding more to come in August, September and by the end of the year. Looking good for getting C4 HD, History HD, EuroSport HD and Living HD as well as mouth-watering images of Good Food HD. Not wishing to start a speculation frenzy but there could be room for a couple more by year end. When the ITV HD exclusivity deal expires it will make for a reasonable starter set of HD channels. Then the network-wide elimination of analogue and eventual rollout of IPTV should make for an interesting 2010. I wonder when the news channels (e.g. BBC News, Sky News, CNN) might go HD. I'm not suggesting that it will be soon. More likely after analogue switchover in 2012. Just a thought. But we must be patient and show restraint! |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
ESPN will probably have the following channel numbers.
ESPN Channel 529 ESPN HD Channel 530 ESPN Classic Channel 533 |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Im on the XL TV package and whenever I goto the new HD channels I get a message saying you have not subscribed to these channels.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Great news all round from Virgin on this ESPN deal BUT do remember ESPN have rights to show 46 EPL games this season which drops to 23 from next year.

I've just had an email back to one i sent virgin. It says they are working with ESPN to get the website changed. An error was made when adding the sports for the european league and mls they had recently bought to their webpage and they forgot to update the EPL and SPL to include V+HD on it. |
