Re: Snow !
Sunshine and snow showers yesterday left us with about an inch lying on the ground by nightfall, which froze solid in -7c overnight. :erm:
Bright sunshine this morning but the temperature so far has struggled to get up to -2. Brr! Daughter's nursery has closed because the central heating has broken. On a freezing Monday morning I would expect that means a burst pipe somewhere. |
Re: Snow !
No snow here but the wind chill is absolutely bitter.

Well would you believe it? It is actually snowing here..3 times in one winter is a record for us.:erm:

Snow in Tonbridge. Looks lovely :)

Re: Snow !
The mercury has crept up to +3 here now, in blazing sunshine and a light breeze that's rapidly stripping the snow off the ground and leaving it remarkably dry.
Meanwhile our solar hot water panels are a sizzling 52c. |
Re: Snow !
Snowing in mid-March. The weather is going crazy...
|
Re: Snow !
There has been snow in May if l rightly remember but March can be a very fickle month as sometimes you can get a early spring or you can get the last of the winter.

Well, we got a sprinkle overnight.
Then it started sunny this morning, then we had a blizzard roll in, then sunshine again, then another mini blizzard, and now sunshine again .... :erm: |
Re: Snow !
Similar here without the sun. One minute a blizzard and the next minute it all calsms down and stops. Weird.

Re: Snow !
Not too much here overnight but seriously cold.
I must say I feel very sorry for those who got stuck out in their vehicles for hours and in some cases all night. Having said that, I heard Cheryl Baker on TV this morning banging on about how she and her hubby had been stuck in their car all night. I did feel sorry for them until I heard that they'd headed off into the night to collect their daughter who'd got stuck on a very icy hill, along with many others, somewhere miles away in Brighton. Don't get me wrong, I can fully understand their parental urge to assist their daughter but did they think to take some precautions in case they also got stuck somewhere like so many others? You know, extra warm clothing, blankets, food, hot drinks etc. etc. etc. Erm, that'd be a no... So they too went out and got stuck somewhere adding yet more misery and congestion to that which was already evident and thereby making the job of the emergency services even harder. Having got a bit peckish after hours going nowehere, they were apparently shocked to find that the only edible stuff available from the service station was bars of chocolate and bags of crisps? Quelle surprise... Just found this concerning the incident: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-21751026 Makes you wonder also whether they even checked the traffic news before they set out. |

Re: Snow !
We had some last night, which melted slightly during the day. Now its started up again, with bigger flakes this time. So far they are just melting as they hit the ground, but as it gets colder I expect they will overpower that (assuming it carries on falling).

Re: Snow !
Heavy snow started here in Mansfield overnight Thursday. Had a few hours respite during the day on Friday with some heavy snow showers. Been up since 6am and it hasn't stopped. I would guess at around 6" so far and the council have not gritted anywhere that I can see

Lovely blue sky down here this morning after several days of monsoon weather.:Sun::Sun::Sun:

Re: Snow !
About six inches of snow in our street.
|
Re: Snow !
Yes l noticed yesterday on TV that in Bradford and Huddersfield it was quite bad and if l rightly remember you are not that far away from these areas.
|
Re: Snow !
What is making it more deadly round here (west Leeds) is that gusty wind blowing the snow about. Living halfway up a hill, shopping centres top and bottom, the hard decision is which way to go?

Snow lying from about 500 metres in our part of the west highlands this morning. This is Ben Lomond, just a cheap and cheerful phone snap: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/at...1&d=1368433030 |
Re: Snow !
Me thinks there is more to come!
Relative living in Canada reports yesterday 12inch of snow fell in daylight hours.(even sent a picture) The weather services put the blame onto the wayward gulf stream 'being not in the correct location for this time of the year'. I would suggest for those 'north of the border', get the snow shoes ready. |
Re: Snow !
I was up Ben Nevis last Saturday and the snow was about 2 feet deep in places! We where up at cloud level, which was very bizarre. It was almost like snow was just generating all around us rather than falling from the SKY.

We have our first snow of the season. Thankfully not at our level, you have to go up above about 750 metres for it. This is a grainy little camera phone pic, taken with far too little daylight, but it shows Ben Lomond on the right and Beinn Narnain on the left.

Snow on the hill opposite us. That's the latest we've had our first snow for years. I'll post a photo later today, when it's daylight.

Re: Snow !
Well if we listen to the MO we are in for a pretty mild winter but of course if you listen to the DM and DE then we are in the for coldest winter for 200 years and we are all doomed.

Yes indeed. Much the same a few miles north-west of Wakefield.

Re: Snow !
The same William holds Heletune. Orm held it and was a freeman. There are 10 hides, of these 5 pay geld and the others do not pay geld. There is land for 20 ploughs. In demesne are 2 ploughs, 4 oxmen, 4 bordars and 2 priests with 4 ploughs among them all. 2 fishermen there pay 5s and there is 1 acre of meadow and woodland 1 leage long and a half wide...... and a crap load of snow.
|
Re: Snow !
Snow started yesterday at 6pm, after an hour there was easily 2" and our 15 minute drive home from a family dinner turned into a 75 minute epic journey ;) only broken by watching hapless drivers trying to drive in the snow and failing.
|
Re: Snow !
Started at about 9pm last night here, we got about 2 inches.
Weird today getting it off the car today, it was frozen, so came off the windscreen in big blocks. |
Re: Snow !
Once again a smattering of snow causes the UK (well this part anyway) to throw a fit and everyone decides to not drive properly.
I honestly think some proper bad weather would cause the UK to go back to the dark ages. |
Re: Snow !

Re: Snow !
Never understand it - I lived in Berlin for two years, and we has serious snow, and I never missed a shift ( and we were on top of the biggest hill in Berlin).
People in this country (apologises for vast generalisation) just don't seem to know how to drive in adverse conditions (and I include fog/heavy rain).... |
Re: Snow !
As you say there is a significant core of drivers who don't drive to the conditions and try to Drive too fast and get too close to the car in front and thus don't leave themselves any leeway at all.
|
Re: Snow !
Took the dog out in it, it loves it!
Eating it, catching it, running & rolling in it. It's demanded to go out 3 times today! |
Re: Snow !
Had a light dusting overnight, pretty but not dangerous. Forecast says we might get a bit more.
|
Re: Snow !
Big flakes falling here, not sticking yet though.
|
Re: Snow !
Well it started to snow here .... then stopped again ....
|
Re: Snow !
It's been on and off for more than a week here. Until now, it has tended to fall, then melt, then all over again. But now, after 2 days of clear skies and sub-zero temperatures, it is falling on hard-frozen ground. Just coming down lightly, but sticking. Thankfully the gritter came up first thing this morning, so the main road is still clear for now.
|
Re: Snow !
Not a sniff down here.
|
Re: Snow !
Nowt here, just rain... milder by the week-end though.
|
Re: Snow !
Dry down here but still rather chilly still.
|
Re: Snow !
Been snowing here pretty much since 8pm last night. It settled overnight and as it's about +2 it's just big wet flakes with very little settling. If it drops to about zero it will settle more and probably will become a problem tomorrow.
|
Re: Snow !
It's lovely up here tonight: Gails, sleet, massive hailstones.
We had to cancel a gig up in t'depths of Lancashire this evening due to everyone falling off the road as it's even worse up there. |
Re: Snow !
Snowed here briefly, but all gone now.
