So you've lived in Manchester to know the exact split of fans? ;)

Even City fans would say it was split half and half.

Going back to my earlier question, what is your point? ;) :D

This just sounds like bitterness over getting beat twice in a month by Utd. The first victory was very comfortable and at your place if I recall and the second, I grant you this, not so comfortable, but still nice. ;)

Just a thought, according to todays press, John Terry admitted deliberately fouling (blocking) the Birmingham defender to allow Huth to score Chelsea's first goal. Is this not a case of bringing the game into disrepute and should he be punished for it. If Roy Keane confessed to something like this what do you think the reaction would be. ;) Video evidence clearly showed the offence and as the referee did nothing at the time, the FA could take action, as they did with Van Nis against Arsenal's Ashley Cole.

can't see it happening in this case.. although it was a foul by Terry he never hit anyone or kicked out so i think he will get away with it

Hmmmm, Djemba-Djemba's not exactly a proven goal-scorer though, is he, and that's what Villa need right now.

Hopefully, he'll fit in well but, TBH, we could do with someone who's going to get us 10 - 15 goals a season minimum/. Oh well, fingers crossed that he'll get a few :tu:

sherer 31-01-2005 13:42

Re: [Merged] Football talk

djemba-djemba is more of a holding midfield player.. he will protect the back four and let the likes of Hendrie.. Hitzslesberger go forward without having to worry about whose looking after the back.. he was brought into our side as the potential replacement for Roy Keane.. he was never in the same league as him though but can do a decent enough job..

should get your monies worth worth out of him though..

talking of Forlan always though he was a decent player and i think La Liga suits him very wel.. nice to see him scoring he always put in the effort in training and when we played him nice to see him doing well..

it's interesting that with players lke Forlan, Andy Cole , Defoe, Owen etc fans of their old clubs always like to see them do well as they never had a bad word for the club.. compare that to someone like Bellamy where none of his old clubs care if he scores or plays.. even most of his old teammates don't like him

Fricking hell, our reward for 5th round is a sure defeat at White Hart Lane or the Hawthorns.

Middle of the road, premiership, no chance of a money spinner, no chance of going through.

Sums our luck up. :(

Personally I'd take it, if it's not mainly add-ons that is...

Celtic swoop for Bellamy

20:22pm 31st January 2005 Celtic have signed Craig Bellamy on loan from Newcastle United until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old snubbed a £6milli on move to Birmingham City earlier on Monday. The Wales international branded Newcastle boss Graeme Souness a liar in a televised interview last week, and was told he would never play again for the club during the Scot's reign. Now Bellamy will link up with fellow Wales team-mate John Hartson in the Celtic attack.

nffc 31-01-2005 22:28

Re: [Merged] Football talk

FAO Spurs fans [if there are any on here]...

Although it doesn't seem like it you've got a bargain.

If Reid shows the form he's shown for us, and Ireland (11 caps 2 goals) if he'd be in the prem he'd be worth 8m by himself. He has excellent control on the ball, great vision, can hit a dead ball, he's not especially pacy but he's hard to get the ball off from a defender's point of view. He's been trying to create everything for us so teams have been putting several players on him, but with other creative players he'll thrive. He played ST for the academy, and can, and has, played CM, LM, or RM. Primarily LM though. Similar kind of player to John Robertson, but not quite the same class, yet.

Dawson- realistically you'll have to wait a while to see his talent. He had glandular fever a couple of years ago, and since then he's had terrible injury problems. Which obviously have affected his form... When he's fully fit he's a great reader of the game, not especially fast so he struggles against pacy forwards, but he's great in the air and an aggressive tackler. He can pass a ball very well [as can most Forest trainees] and has a great eye for goal, he scored a lot in the playoff season pre-glandular fever. He's a bit Ferdinand-esque, obviously not the same level, yet, but comparisons have been made.

You have a great pair of players there.

Re: [Merged] Football talk

Just prior to the 'Match of the Century' © tonight, and courtesy of our friends at The Guardian, here's what Ferguson and Wenger say, and what they really mean:

ArsÃÃ*’¨ne Wenger

"The disappointing thing with the first game was that it was not really a good promotion for English football"

What he meant: "A worldwide audience of 600 million people doesn't tune in to watch 22 angry millionaires spitefully kicking chunks out of one another on the off chance a major fight might break out . . . Oh, now hang on a minute . . ."

Alex Ferguson

"Our boys have faced far more hostile atmospheres than they will at Highbury. When you go to Anfield, a Liverpool v Manchester United game is fantastic. And as for Leeds United at Elland Road? Deary me!"

What he meant: "Let's face facts, southerners are just a load of passionless middle-class jessies"

ArsÃÃ*’¨ne Wenger

"It doesn't matter if we are playing Manchester United or Coventry."

What he meant: "Since relegation from the Premiership the Sky Blues have gone into financial and footballing freefall. We can but dream."

Alex Ferguson

"My players behave themselves properly. They always do. They have a good discipline record and that requires good discipline within themselves and from the management of the club."

What he meant: "If I order the Nevilles to give a Spaniard a kicking for tactical reasons, they give him a kicking for tactical reasons, but his mob just does what they like when they like."

ArsÃÃ*’¨ne Wenger

"We had the best record in the Premier League last season and this season with the fewest fouls committed."

What he meant: "They kick us more often than we do them, but remember: it's quality not quantity that counts."

Alex Ferguson

"The experience of players like Keane, Scholes and Giggs holds you in good stead."

What he meant: "We've snarled and sworn at hundreds more linesmen and chased dozens more referees across the pitch than they have and that means we've got a head start because the officials are already scared of us before we kick-off."

ArsÃÃ*’¨ne Wenger

"And who is most sinned against? Arsenal Football Club."

What he meant: "It wasn't us who started it. Just look at the number of times Robert Pires has been blown over in the penalty area, if you don't believe me."

Alex Ferguson

"The hype has maybe gone over the top"

What he meant: "Ashley Cole is certain to go over the top."

ArsÃÃ*’¨ne Wenger

"I have no doubt about Ashley's commitment to the club."

What he meant: "Ashley Cole will be totally focused tomorrow night. Probably on Phil Neville's right shin."

Alex Ferguson

"Chelsea do look as if they have an unassailable lead, but you keep thinking about football as game that can change completely."

What he meant: "Chelsea look unbeatable, but remember: Arsenal went 49 games undefeated and look at them now, they're getting caned off Bolton."

ArsÃÃ*’¨ne Wenger

"We don't really know where Rooney plays at the moment - is he a second striker or a main striker?"

What he meant: "Or a diving *******? Personally I'd play him in the hole. And then have a bulldozer push five tons of gravel on top of him."

Alex Ferguson

"We are chasing the sands of time now."

What he meant: "See, it's not just that Frenchman who does all the deep, philosophical and poetic stuff."

ArsÃÃ*’¨ne Wenger

"My team will need to perform at its best."

What he meant: "I am confident that if the players give everything this time the pizza will hit him straight in the kisser."

Alex Ferguson

"On form, us and Chelsea are the two best team in the country. I don't even think Arsenal would argue with that."

What he meant: "We're better than you are, Frenchie. Do you want to make something of it?"

ArsÃÃ*’¨ne Wenger

"Sometimes these game are very tight and sometimes they are very open. You just don't know."

What he meant: "Pay-per-view? Well, you really just don't know do you. It's like buying a pig-in-a-poke, isn't it?"

it still amazes me that the managers always thing if a player falls over in the box it should be a pen..

Fergie says Poll should have given us a few pens in past games but if these incidents had happened in the 80s they wouldn't be screaming blue murder.. and if it had happened during Fergie's playing days he just would have got up and kicked the bloke that fouled him later on in the game

So go on then, if someone fouls YOU in the box and you can stay on your feet, you still go down because quite frankly, you won't gain owt by not going down and you'll get a pen if you do.

Face it, the foreign players have catalysed the introduction of a "diving culture" into the indigenous players, and now the refs have been conned to the extent that they don't know when a player is fouled, and not only that but every mistake, every picodetail is analysed and regurgitated by pundits who know FA about refereeing and arrogant managers like Ferguson and Wenger who again, know FA about refereeing and merely use it to partially obscure the inadequacies of their sides.

And let's face it, we're all guilty of diving in the box occasionally whether there's contact or not.

Sylvestre deserved to be sent off. Rooney should just be told to bend over and have his arse slapped, he is such a brat, most of the other bookings on both sides would hardly have warranted a mention in any other game. Although there were some tasty tackles, sometimes misstimed, there wasn't one really nasty tackle in the whole game, yet if you looked a bare stats it would appear to have been a real dirty game. Chopper Harris and Norman Hunter would have walked off at half time because it was too tame.:D

Great game!!!!!

Certainly was heated in the tunnel with Keaneo telling Viera to "Shut his ****ing mouth" in the tunnel! Apparently Viera was having a go at Neville and Keane told him to try it on with him!

What a finish by O'Shea. 9.0 for Vieras dive to try and get Rooney sent off, good injury fake after it as well!

As for Silvestre, silly silly boy, could have been very costly!

All the people who at the start of the season said Keane was done I hope they were watching the game tonight!

He is going to need bigger shorts! The last couple of weeks he has had Gerrard and Viera in his pocket!

"Patrick Viera is 6ft 4, starts on Gary Neville, I says come and have a go at me"

We love you Keaneo we do, we love you keaneo we do!

Oh yeh they never have as Arsenal hold the longest unbeaten run in English League history.

Never mind post back in a decade or two if United ever equal that.

Seen 4 good goals from Bergkamp, Viera, Ronaldos First and Oâ₠™Sheas.

The other two well wicked deflection although as the United fans will say it was going in anyway and Ronaldos second was from yet another Arsenal goal keeping mistake and any player could have toe poked that home.

Fergie & Keane came out for an interview.

Wenger probably did not trust himself on his comments and hopefully he will not comment on the incident and leave it up to the FA to address instead of running off at the mouth like usual.

I am guessing though although I never seen Fergies interview that he made a tactful no comment on Silvestres incident.

And finally letââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s bring up some of the points missed †“

Rooney behaved like a childish brat all match and deserved to walk as well, the only time in commentary his name was mentioned was when he hacked someone down or verbally abused the officials.

Pires should have had a penalty but due to his gust of wind fall over in the past he lost out big style this time for a genuine shout.

As an Arsenal fan Cole should have been booked or given as Oscar for his dive.

Heinze was class tonight.

Bergkamp the oldest player on the pitch and still pure class.

:D

Sorry carlingman you should rephrase that. It was a unbeaten 49 LEAGUE game run

Man Utd went 45 games unbeaten in ALL competitions in 1998 - 1999.
Quote:

MANCHESTER UNITED 1998-99 & 1999-00 (45 games unbeaten)

As well as winning the Treble in 1999, Manchester United also managed to go 45 games unbeaten in all competitions between December 19th 1998 and October 3rd 1999.

That took in 29 league games, 8 Champions League games and 8 FA Cup matches. Although they did lose the Charity Shield to Arsenal during that run, it is not usally counted as a competitive match.

Nope Fergie doesn't usually play the "I didn't see the incident" card...

The only sour note of the evening was the inexplicable second-half dismissal of Mikael Silvestre for headbutting Freddie Ljungberg.

†œI have seen it but I canââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t believe it,ââ‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ said Ferguson.

†œMikael has such an impeccable disciplinary record, yet he has got himself sucked in. There is no doubt he deserved to be sent off.â₠¬Ã‚

Re: [Merged] Football talk

well the match started badly with the incident in the tunnel. Once again just like the post match tunnel bust up at OT it's one that we can comment on without any problems and Wenger can't comment on and Viera barely mentioned it either.. The FA should look into this.. when two teams can't walk out of a tunnel together without shouting and pushing there is something wrong.

Cole dived in the first two mins.. Poll knew it wasn't a foul or a pen so by the laws of the game he should have been booked. Hopefully the FA will look into this and dock Arsenal 3 points.

Viera dived and again the ref missed it the FA should look into this and dock them another 3 points.

Suberp goal by Berkamp but once again Henry didn't perform ina big game.. apart from setting up Berkamp's goal he didn't do much.

As for berkamp's comments about being glad Ruud wasn't playing as he is dirty he was the one who started kicking and swinging at Silvestre that wound him up !!

Overall the match was fairly even but their keeper gifted us the lead.

As for the 49 match unbeaten run they still lost in Europe and FA Cup during that run and only one 1 league championship during it..

they just think they should be given the league cos they so arrogant.. they still can't win back to back leagues or pick up anything in Europe

sherer 02-02-2005 14:52

Re: [Merged] Football talk

well it looks like Cole and Veira have got away with diving and Bergkamp has got away with kicking out at Silvestre..also no action will be taken about what happened in the tunnel.. the unbiased FA is at it again

also will Sky please stop say "The Champions" 15 million times whenever Arsenal are on..

no one should get away with diving though.. Rooney, Cole, Viera and Diouf should all get bans for diving.. unless they get punished it will keep happening
