If cost is the issue, why not negotiate to let us have the independent ITV channels that are left that have different programming to ITV1? How about letting some of the fledgling/minority channels on satellite onto the VM platform for free? Such channels could never afford carriage on VM anyway, so VM wouldn't be losing revenue and the channels would have a larger potential viewer base. There could be a clause that if they grew to x amount of viewers, or made x amount of profit, that sliding carriage fees would apply. This would benefit VM customers through more choice. A friend owned a channel in the analogue days. The channel was on satellite and he offered it to the cable companies for free. They were having none of it and wanted him to pay them to be on the platform. He refused to pay, saying that he was being generous offering them free carriage that may benefit them and their customers. Needless to say, the channel never made it to cable. Maybe the cost to the cable companies of putting it onto the network was a factor, but, with the advent of digital, this is now much cheaper. Quote:

"I assume they mean dogs can see progressive displays better then interlaced? Or maybe because newer technologies are more persistent than CRT?" "Very untrue. An frame is made of little things called pixels. When the frame is interlaced ( eg 480i like most CRT's where that did not have component ) It will show a single frame but while doing this. It goes fill line/miss line then goes back and fill. Progressive Goes fill/fill. Now I don't even know if are current broadcast are progressive I know HD is not. So really there is nothing that can make a dog see any better. The only difference being higher bit rates and some cases higher resolution meaning more pixels meaning better quality. My dalmatian always enjoyed TV no matter the quality. He would also always choose a run over TV any day." |
