depends who takes over ,the danger is that someone equally as despotic will seize power.

Yes that is always the worry when these dictators are toppled.

There is no excuse for summary execution, that's the province of dictators. He should've been tried in Libya and punished according to their law. It's not especially inspiring for the future of the place either seeing this nor the absurd propaganda afterwards.

That they're now trying to claim he was killed in a crossfire is laughable. The people who were there said he was executed with a 9mm to the head and the footage is all over the place yet these guys are seriously trying to say that this wasn't an execution but he was shot in the head during a crossfire.

Barbarism of the lowest order followed by transparent and absurd attempts to cover it up, and off we go to try and score some trade contracts there.

Quite a few reports (although shockingly not in our press) of punishment beatings/ arson being dished out to assumed pro Gadaffi civillians. Presumably we'll resume bombing to protect them now as per the UN remit or don't they count.

Indeed. A ******* has been removed from the world, Lets move on and let the hand wringers complain about the next item in the news they think they need to complain about.

For the record i don't have an issue with the way Gaddafi was dealt with. He has and would have done the same if roles were reversed

What goes round comes round he got no better or worse then he has handed out for forty years and anyone who seriously thought he was going to get a fair trial and all that clearly has no idea how much pain and suffering that man caused the lybians during his leadership.

As you are probably aware, I am certainly no hand wringer..... But I would have preferred to see him have a trial and be hanged. At least under those circumstances there is a chance he could have taken some other guilty parties down with him. I suspect that this is the reason he was executed.

As I always point out, we can not judge these people in these countries by our own standards. After poking our noses in and helping to create this situation now lets sit back and watch the trouble and oppression from whoever takes control.

Who are we to sit in judgement on these guys, or call them *******s, when we are perfectly fine with handing out the same summary deaths that they did though?

The moral high ground is a bitch sometimes, if we're going to try and claim it we should at least make some effort to live up to it.

As it is we're off like whippets to get at the real reasons behind the military action, oil and lucrative contracts with the new government.

Yet we do judge these people, and their leaders, by our own standards. Well being more accurate by what we think our own standards are. The standards soon drop when it's convenient, such as when the 'right' person is executed in cold blood without trial.

That's a very idealistic viewpoint ,not very realistic though .We do get involved because we have a lot to lose if we don't.We have also given a lot to help those who where being killed and tortured ,we have given asylum to many of the people who want to live by our standards ,so yes i think we have the right to judge them .Sometimes our morals are bit suspect but i would sooner have ours than theirs .Now a Guilty man has been executed by the people he tortured ,killed and oppressed for decades ,he had his trial during the uprising he could have bowed to the peoples wishes and stepped down ,gone into exile and possibly still be alive today ,instead he chose to cling to power and continue the oppression for as long as possible good riddance i say
