It seems that the age of my computer may be one of the reasons for the fluctuating speed test results. I was slightly happier getting the 6.17 earlier. The NIC that I installed myself was done a few years ago, but I spoke to VM tech dept and told them I had a 32bit PCI 10/100M Ethernet Adapter, and they said that it would cope with the 10meg upgrade speed. One thing I wanted to ask is their any configuration I could possible change in the network folder for this adapter than may help with the speeds. just a thought. Thanks. |
Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
I'm receiving 10Mb the same on an seven year old system (long, :O) than the system I built four months ago, I'm sure your NIC is fine.
I'm using a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC (It's super old, works fine) |
Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Can someone please explain why I get terrific results from http://numion.com/
and yet not so good from http://www.speedtest.net/ The results I got from http://numion.com/ are as follows Download speed: 9,025.08 (1,128.13) 100% Upload speed: 491.32 (61.41) 100% Surfspeed inside United Kingdom: 277.00 (34.62) 100% Surfspeed average (worldwide): 133.06 (16.63) 83% Surfspeed outside United Kingdom: 111.03 (13.87) 70% Latency: 269 milliseconds https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/05/92.png |
Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Speednet isn't that reliable, although this Numion site isn't exactly either.. xD
Download speed: 14,231.79 (1,778.97) 100% Upload speed: 408.82 (51.10) 100% Surfspeed inside United Kingdom: 114.46 (14.30) 100% Surfspeed average (worldwide): 91.23 (11.40) 100% Surfspeed outside United Kingdom: 87.06 (10.88) 100% Latency: 261 milliseconds https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/05/91.png |
Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Well, still no luck this morning... I guess those 2.46 & 2.60 scores I had last night were just random bugs or something...
(I powered off the modem this morning, but no difference) https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/05/90.png |
Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Rather than keep hammering the network, may I suggest folks just look in their modem to see what speed is set:
http://root:root@192.168.100.1/P_operation.htm Note that Internet Explorer may well baulk at the username and password in the link. For details about how to stop this happening see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834489 Alternatively, just log into the modem and manually enter 'root' for both the username and password. Look under 'Operation Configuration' for the speed settings: http://192.168.100.1/ |

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
iv never had very good speeds from speedtest.net
got one of my best results today on mybroadbandspeed.co.uk still trying to work out which network setting gives best results 10/Half Duplex gives stable speed but can drop quite badly at busy times of day Auto results in 100/dont know the duplex, that gives good general results and fast loading webpages but can be a bit unstable and sometimes doesn't hit top speed if anyones interested iv found the amount before throttle is 1750mb after 4pm in my area, 1gb better than the official limit :) |

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
I'm confused! is this thread about the free Upgrade for present 2MB users up to 10MB or is it about the 50MB service or the 20MB service or a general Speedtest thread?.
Seeing as the title clearly is about the free upgrade I would be grateful if you all got back on that topic. There are plenty of other threads discussing the other topics. If not you can always start one. |
