There is a monumental frak-up on Apple servers at the moment.

oh dear, you may have bricked your iPhone (although only for now). After it installs it needs to activate but there seems to be a problem with that stage. It may keep throwing up errors.

Oh dear... cant do anything on my phone now...will only do emergency calls

---------- Post added at 17:38 ---------- Previous post was at 17:37 ----------

Well so long as its only temporary.... It will be going back to O2 if its permanent

---------- Post added at 17:38 ---------- Previous post was at 17:38 ----------

Its throwing up an error with the iTunes Store (not being able to access a particular part of it)

Mines failing to activate, even though it's an upgrade. Been trying most of the day. I was aware of a server glitch with O2's registration system, but that was resolved. Not a happy bunny so far and have already called the complaints dept. :(

@haydnwalker: Remove the SIM using the SIM ejection tool, wipe it with a soft dry clean cloth and place it abck in. See what happens. Should resolve the emergency calls issue.

Yup, same errors are occuring all over the place. It's a problem with Apple servers. Keep trying, people do eventually get though.

Do you mean a new iPhone or are you just upgrading the software? The software update though iTunes it going wrong.

How are you activating? Is it though iTunes or though O2?

@haydnwalker

In iTunes you can force the phone to re-attempt to connect by pressing elsewhere in iTunes (say a playlist or the iTunes store) and then clicking your iPhone in the device list again.

Everyone else. DO NOT upgrade until these problems are solved.

Through iTunes. Going to give my pal a wee call when he finishes work later.

As for everyone else not upgrading, that's going to be too easy to do as stock is limited. My pal at the O2 store in Glasgow isn't expecting anymore stock until next week (Thurs) at the earliest. Again they are only expected to have a few handsets delivered.

I mean upgrading from iPhone OS 1 to iPhone OS 2 :p:

There are two problems happening:
  • Users with the new iPhone are have trouble upgrading
  • People with old iPhones are having trouble upgrading to the new software.
No one should attempt either until the problems are solved. It's seems the activation system is down and it handles the new iPhones and the old ones updating to new software.
