Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
I've done the deed, 50% off Sky is a great deal. But what clinched it was the comments made by the VirginMedia retention teams (I rang twice, so maybe a scripted response?). They only seemed interested in retaining my broadband business! Encouraging me to retain their broadband and move my TV to Sky!
Almost as if the TV is dying element of their business! So although I'm not A prolific poster on this forum I do and will follow it on a regular basis, but good luck to those waiting for for nothing to happen on virgin TV:) |

What sort of charge will Virgin make for BB only, I mean would you still get it for the price that you have just now? Obviously depends on which speed you want. The point I'm trying to make is this, is BB cheaper if you have the TV and phone service as part of a full package?
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
Bb is cheaper as part of a package. On its own, the 50mb bb is £28. The standalone prices are on the VM website, I looked the other day. Hope it helps!

As an owner of a 4k tv is welcome some 4k content especially football. But the question is can the TiVo utilise 4k video pretty sure I know the answer and I don't like it.
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
And if Virgin decide to pass on that charge by withdrawing BT Sports from the XL package and offering it as a standalone subscription offering then they better have something good lined up to replace it on the XL pack unless they are going to cut the price of the XL pack and history suggests they ain't going to doing that.

They claim 5 million customers have activated BT Sports across all platforms. Roughly £300-million a year / 5 million / 12 months = £5 per month. It might be higher in years 2 and 3. Depends if they can persuade them all to stump up the extra. Out of Sky's 10 million customers only about a million registered for Sports 5 to watch Champions League last season so Sky are betting they will struggle to get that critical mass. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
Anybody heard or know anything about BT Sport Europe and if we will get it in the XL package or is it to show some of Champions League for Free which was part of the deal when taking ITVs coverage
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
Well first of all they are holding a press conference next week to announce pricing details but whether it remains on the XL package will be Virgins decision in the end.
Don't get your hopes up too high on BT's statement that some of their CL's will be FTA as it will only be a handful of matches at the very most from what l understand. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
Quote:
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
If BT don't allow the CL to be included in XL how many viewers will they lose , I'd imagine there is a pretty high amount of BT Sport subs who won't pay the additional fiver.
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
I won't be paying for bt if the leaves XL pack.
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
could vm do another shocker and get bt sport europe in xl and reup their contract with bt for another 3 years? it would be a miracle if they do. But if they dont then what can vm offer to make xl still worthwhile? i dont think hd channels cover it for myself
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
I can imagine what will happen is the Champions League will be extra. I can see the regular channels staying in XL with an extra fiver a month for champions league. Virgin cant afford to let BT leave xl its a huge selling point for some
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
Quote:
If every platform has to pay the £5 charge I think they'll struggle with viewing figures for the games not available FTA. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
I would expect to be the same coverage as last season with ITV/Sky.
So BT will have all 16 games each week - of which one will be on the FTA channel. May be luch and get two free games. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
If Virgin have any business sense they will do their upmost to get the champions league/Europa league channel included in the xl package because it`s a massive selling point in their `war` with sky. People want to watch Champions league games there`s no doubt about it,they(we) just don`t want to pay extra for them.
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
You know what, I think Virgin deserve the benefit of the doubt. When Setanta folded it didn't look likely they where going to get ESPN in the XL package, but after a couple of months of speculation they managed to do a deal. Then when BT Sports launched it really didn't look like a deal would be done, but about a week after BT Sports officially launched Virgin did the business yet again and got it in the XL package. Setanta, ESPN and BT Sports all in the XL package over the past 8 years.
Based on previous performance, you'd have to think that Virgin will get a deal done to cover European coverage in the XL package. IF anything, there's nothing to suggest they won't. |

£13.50 per month + £3.00 per month for HD + £5.00 per month for an additional box plus there's a £30.00 activation fee. In total over a year that's £348.00 which is roughly £29.00 per month! Not much cheaper than SKY Sports at all. Virgin Media customers don't know how good they've got it! :D |
