I have two today.
1) My dog having dirty paws then walking through my living room leaving a trail of paw prints. 2) The price of trainers when you go into the men's size. The trainers for my my wee one has almost doubled in price just because he has went up a size. |

Except I wont be saving money as all tariffs have in fact risen by about that much so it makes no difference whether I change or stay. |

I agree about the prices though (which is why TKMaxx being the only reliable supplier suits me down to the ground as they are relatively cheap). Funny thing is, I remember a few years ago, I was working in Freight Forwarding, so had an idea of how much shipping things in containers to other countries costed. I had a day off, so I was sitting watching some talk show (Kilroy, I think). The CEO of Nike UK was on, and someone asked him about the high prices of trainers. His answer? High shipping (and particularly customs) costs.. At which point, I thought "bull" and giggled.. They would have paid a few thousand pounds (I don't know the exact costs, but I suspect it would have been the low thousands) per container, but think how many hundreds (if not thousands) of pairs of trainers they could get in a 40 (or even 20) foot container. The cost of shipping would be no more than a couple of pounds per pair, and I doubt it would have even been 1 pound per pair. Bear in mind those trainers were probably made for a few pennies in a sweatshop somewhere, and I suspect trainers attract quite a large profit.. |

Idiot drivers! Just got back from dropping Osem Jnr off at his primary school placement and found myself caught up in quite heavy traffic navigating its way along a narrow road with quite a lot of parked cars causing quite a number of pinch points. I could see my way ahead wasn't clear so pulled over to the left to allow an oncoming bus to clear the parked cars and pass by me before I carried on. To my astonishment as the bus was just a few feet in front of my car the lady driver behind me decided to overtake me for reasons best known to herself. Result? She was on the wrong side of the road face to face with a the bus with me on her left looking on with amazement. To make matters worse, she looked surprised to find that her stupidity had left us with nowhere to go. Luckily the driver behind her had left sufficient room for her to reverse back out of the way to allow the bus to pass and me to move on. You have to wonder what these people are thinking, if anything, when they get behind the wheel.
|
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Sadly some people who should never be let near a car are on the roads these days. Just thank your lucky stars that with my eyesight as bad it is I can never get behind a wheel. Apparently even laser surgery wouldn't improve my sight enough to be able to drive.
|
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
At least she could reverse. When I'm down in Cornwall I've lost count of the number of people when confronted by a double decker in a narrow lane are totally incapable of reversing for even a few yards without making a bog of it. How on earth do these numpties ever get a licence?
Mind you as a passenger on the bus it's an entertaining sport especially as the hedges on the sides of the roads have granite cores.:D |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Yes, I suppose lol
I reckon a lot of these people drive with tunnel vision, fixated on the car in front and oblivious to anything else which might be going on. It's not the first time I've been overtaken by an idiot when I've been giving way to oncoming traffic either. :nutter: |

We have just had a one way system put in town because of the impending closure of the railway bridge going to the town centre. First during the roadworks to put the system in place, people were just trying to go around road closure signs which literally would see them bumping into roadworks and nowhere to go was a great start. Now there is the One Way system in place, I saw 4 cars totally fail at noticing a big "One Way" sign and marker arrows on the ground as they went around the new islands in the road to go on what is now a One Way street. Called the consultant's secretary who was very apologetic and arranged for a consultation a few weeks later during which it was all explained and the rest is history. Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Insurance (and specifically Corgi)
Back in December 2011, I had a new boiler (Valiant Ecotect Plus 831) installed and the rest of the system checked and power flushed. Until this year, apart from the odd pressure drop, it's been fairly reliable. It's insured with Corgi (on the original installer's recommendation) and has been serviced regularly. Then, a few months ago, the pressure drops started occuring regularly, so I called Corgi. They sent three engineers in. All said how well the system was installed, two said nothing was wrong as the pressure drops were normal (they also told me to disregard the installer's warning about maximum pressure). The third cleaned the filter and said that should solve the pressure problem. It didn't, so, having lost confidence in Corgi engineers, I attempted to contact the original installer. Every time I rang (or ring, even now), after several rings, the call would go to voicemail and he never got back to me. So, I found another engineer. He came highly recommended, so I got him in. He said how well the system had been installed, and cleaned the filter (again). He also asked if the installed had flushed a sealant through the system as a lot of the pipes are 20+ years old, so could be leaking. I said they hadn't (fairly certain I'd have been billed for it if they had), so he quoted me £200 for the service and putting the gel in the system. This was on a Saturday, so I didn't object too much and paid it. He also said that if the leaks came back or carried on, it was likely that the heat exchanger was leaking. He warned us this is not a cheap repair as the part itself is over £300, but should be covered by Corgi. However, the Gel worked and for a few months, we had no problems. So, when the problems started again (this time accompanied by the hot water suddenly running cold), I called Corgi. The engineer came in, opened the boiler up, checked a couple of things, said that he thought the filter had been installed on the wrong pipe and left, saying he needed to check the Manufacturer's documentation to confirm this and would email me the next day with what he found and some advice on how to proceed. Bearing in mind that 4 engineers (including 3 from Corgi) had looked at the system and said how well the installation was done, I found that a little suspicious, so I looked up Vaillant's installation manual, which appeared to say that the filter should be installed either on the pipe it was OR the one the last engineer had said depending on the type of heating in use. As I don't know what type of heating is in use beyond having a combi boiler attached to radiators, I can't say for certain whether the engineer was right or not. The manual is presumably meant for trained heating engineers, so is a little vague and makes no attempt to define the two types of heating. The next day, after me hanging on the phone to Corgi for 45 minutes, I got through to someone who could help as the engineer had not made any attempt to contact me. He'd noted on my account that I would need, at my own expense, to get the filter installed on the correct pipe and to have the system flushed again. So, I attempted (and failed) to get hold of the installer. When I failed to to this, I phone the last non-corgi engineer to have a look at it. He would not advise me one way or the other, but quoted me £500 to move the filter and power flush the system. I can get a new boiler for £800, and this one is only just over 3 years old. So now, I am unsure what to do. Spend £500 with little or no real guarantee that either it will fix the problem (if the Corgi engineer was wrong, I don't think it will) or that Corgi will actually do anything if I do spend the money. What has made me unsure is that despite Corgi's assertion that it is difficult for an engineer to spot that the filter is on the wrong pipe, I find it hard to believe that four of them would miss it being installed on the wrong pipe, especially as they *all* checked the filter, and two of them opened it up and cleaned it. In short ,the boiler is currently working, but needs to be powered off and on again regularly, and needs regular top ups, which it shouldn't. |
