We are proving we dont need him.

Reed is superb, with Wanyama, Cork and Davis too...

Ill wager Ron has his eyes on a replacement already and we will bank the majority of the cash.

It was a great result for Kane, and Spurs. What always annoys me about Chelsea, is the way Mourinho complains at officials when the decision goes against him.

It proved today that Mourinho complains about things that goes against his players, what about the nasty fould Cahill does against Kane on the floor.

Cahill, should have walked for the 'sticking the boot in' on Kane's back

Ross Barkley is set to become the January transfer window’s biggest domestic saga and possibly the biggest domestic deal.

Everton are ready to consider selling prized asset Barkley - perhaps for as much as £60million - to fund a spending spree in order to shore up their faltering squad and make sure the club does not tumble into the relegation battle.

I think Jonathan Pearce is awful on the telly, but I used to listen to him on Capital Gold as well and used to think he was fantastic. I've always felt he's had to tone it down for the BBC, and instead he's just become a poor man's Alan Green.

Actually not seen him around recently, a few years back he did deride my support of Rochdale where I was born and saw my first ever game with my Granddad, Oldham Athletic a team from the area I have lived in for many years and United, a team I have supported since 1958. I do also try to get to games at Rochdale or Oldham if United don't have a home game on the same day and don't think you could class supporting The Dale or The Latics as glory hunting.:D

Not a bad deal for us, not least because it means he won't be going to Liverpool :)

Re: Football Season 2014/15

Still cannot understand why Oldham are getting involved until or unless Ched Evans has won his appeal review but if he did do so they would not be able to afford him. Rumoured that his girlfriends father who is a millionaire and a friend of Simon Corney, the owner of Oldham Athletic is going to pay his wages and possibly even make up some of the sponsorship shortfall. Not sure he would match the Sports direct money but he could possibly cover the other two.

If he does eventually get cleared it will look like a great piece of business but at the moment it is rather stupid IMHO.

andy_m 07-01-2015 17:28

Re: Football Season 2014/15

His father in law has denied that he's doing that. The reason Oldham want him is because he's better than League One and they wouldn't be able to get under normal circumstances.

I'm not making any comment about the rights or wrongs of it, mainly because I'm still not sure myself where I stand, but I am genuinely staggered that a club like Oldham can afford to lose the sponsorship it stands to lose by signing him.

Because he's a defender not a striker perhaps and because he wasn't for sale, not that it stopped the illegal approach, if the authorities are serious about stopping abuse they need to start revoking a few agents licences

He's a great keeper, experienced too but yes this raises worrying questions about De Gea's future. This has all the signs of another top United player being sold to RM. Who knows, Valdes might get a new lease of life at United but he's fairly short for a PL keeper and we won't get as many years out of him as De Gea has ahead of him. We might be splashing the cash at the moment but I can see United wanting to try to recoup some of it wherever possible, Welbeck being a good example.

I don't see the problem with it, he's come to the club being told he is the no.2 and will be able to help with De Geas development. The club won't sell De Gea unless he forces a move, and I seriously doubt signing Valdes is going to make him do that.

I thought the same about Beckham and Ronnie although granted the former left under a cloud and the latter always wanted to end up at Real.

I just can't get my head around a keeper with his success and experience and clearly still with something to offer being happy to take a contract that gets him sitting out games most of the time.

Valdes turning up won't make him force a move but turning down an offer of being the no. 1 choice in goal for a bigger and currently better team (plus most likely a bigger pay packet) is a tough sell.

Not sure about it being a fantastic result for football, it was that bad I nearly left at half time.

Both teams where very poor, only a single shot on target the whole game. It was as bad as anything Moyes served up for sure.:(

Tadic after he scored, he took his shirt off and lowered his shorts (you could see his knickers) to show off his six pack. For a moment I thought he will pull the lot down...

Don't think I'll be a patron of the new Boleyn pub, don't like the prices or the pictures on the wall, how Scott Parker got up there is beyond me, he isn't fit to tie the laces of the others, cast iron legend, plastic mercenary more like imo

still in shock when it broke here last night never ever thought we pay that kind of wages but we desperate at moment would cost lot more if we got relegated he should be a very good signing for us

you're getting rid of Altidore in the process. is this deal effectively - Altidore wages + Altidore wages x2 ?

Altidore was one of our highest earners on between 40k and 50K a week so not double wages for Defoe it a no brainer really as got rid of worst player I ever saw in Altidore for a proven Premier League goalscorer

Re: Football Season 2014/15

factor in clauses/add-ons and it could well be double, upto 80k possibly? i was going to ask if you're happy Altidore is leaving ;)

I can't say I'm convinced about Sunderland signing Defoe. It's an awful lot of money, and the way Sunderland are currently set up means he'll either be playing on his own, which he can't, or they'll be going to two up front, which I'm not sure they have the players for. I think it's a desperate move personally, and one which will backfire financially, but me Gran's Sunderland so I'm hoping I'm wrong.

Gus has been saying he cant play way he wants as players not good enough for system he wants at moment and his comments lately been putting pressure on board to spend some money think he go 2 up front now we getting Defoe
