You should be able to do it in any order. |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
OK TIVO is here and install (of TIVO) has gone very smoothly. However, V+ box has been moved upstairs to replace V-HD. While the engineer was here he said looks like V+ features have been disabled and he called back to base. They sent a hit to the box and he left saying it should be working "in a few hours". Two hours later and it's still borked. Boots fine and I can see all channels (including premium HD's) that I should be. However, "Live TV" icon never appears, home button does nothing, V+ button does nothing, pause does nothing and standby does nothing.
Is this still the V+ features disabled or something more serious? I'm also suspecting I'm going to have to call and it's not going to magically start working in a few hours! |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
The guy who sits next to me at work just told me he got the "do you want to keep your old V+HD box in a second room for free?". His install is in May.
And my TiVo is being installed this afternoon and I haven't had the call. Please can someone from VM explain if this offer is purely random, or based on some set of criteria? Boz |

So I suspect this function will be down to TV make. I'm thrilled to just find the on/off - though it does take a bit longer than I thought it did (and no you don't have to turn on/off the TiVo to do it, I believe Carl was just saying it's a short press for TiVo or a long press and hold for TV) as I can just turn the TV on/off by holding the button and the TiVo stays on just fine :) |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
OK, engineer arrived about 11am, 3rd TiVo he'd done, pretty efficient with install, didn't offer to let me keep the V+ in another room, so it's gone. When he left, the Network status still said loading info, loading 99% on the last item on the list and this hasn't changed in the 4 hours since, is this OK? Also epg only goes as far as 24 hrs ahead so far, how long does this take to fill up? Are these two things related, and so I need to reboot or something?
Derek PS Quite impressed with the YouTube app. |

Got mine installed this morning. Two engineers just turned up, no phone call beforehand.
But I'm tearing my hair out. The Tivo is connected to a Toshiba LCD tv using HDMI. When I turn the TV on, I get "No Signal" on the TV until I pull the HDMI out and put it back in. Any ideas, because that's going to drive me and everyone else blooming mad. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
OK - Tivo First impressions:
:luv::luv: After the little hiccup on installation this morning I've been playing for a few hours: 1. PQ looks the same as the V+ on SD & HD 2. EPG goes back forever! - first prog with a little c embloem was KOTV boxing at 2.30 am this morning (10hours before install), pressed the programme - It stated "Watch from Catch up TV on demand" pressed OK, came up with "Play" - worked perfectly. 3. Set up all my series links with no problem, EPG started about a day ahead, now a week forward. 4. Controlled the Volume & Mute first time on my AV receiver. 5. Recorded two progs so far - both perfect. 6. Changed Tuners, and rewound to the start of the buffering on first tuner. So far so good Did I tell you that I'm :luv: ing it !! |

l have also been using the youtube app which is superb watching certain clips but my only problem is trying to sign in to it in which it says l have the wrong username or password but l have checked that l am signing in but it still seems to be saying that my username or pasword is wrong. any answers for this. |

So if you want to buffer say 101, and 102, select channel 101, switch channels to 102 etc., so both tuners will buffer. First buffer will then be superceded if recording space is needed. |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
VM Engineer (Paul) turned up around 4.. had a few problems due to the pairing of the box and the card (which meant it couldn't connect to the TiVo servers), but a phone call to HQ from him resolved that. While chatting to him told him that I was wanting to go to VIP50 but that the VM systems don't allow more than one install to be outstanding.. so he nipped out to his van, grabbed a SuperHub, and once the TiVo install was complete he phoned up, made sure I got the right price for VIP50 (VIP50 for less than I was paying for VIP20+Premium HD... not bad at all), confirmed with me that it was exactly what I wanted, and took me through activation for the modem.
Levels were slightly too high on install (although return path was spot on, apparently), so he installed a filter before my CM/TiVo splitter, and everything is is working perfectly. Currently getting 50Mbps download on my SuperHub. I wasn't so bothered about keeping the V+ (I had an old PACE box as part of my VIP20 package, but as I only have the one TV it just sat in a box in my bedroom), but he said I might as well keep the V+ and let him take the PACE box away seeing as I knew it worked, and it'd be a good backup. Basically, the engineer did a top job, was pleasant and knew his stuff, and went out of his way to help me get updated to VIP50 without having to take more time off work. I'm extremely impressed with him, and the manner he represented VM, and I hope I get the opportunity to tell VM this in future. :) Dean |

Nice to hear.
Why not just send a letter and thank them. I'm sure one of the staff members here could point you in the right direction of the 'compliments' department (if it exists lol)! It always amazes me when you write a letter to a company praising service. They're always astounded! |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
VM engineer came just before 3pm today, did not leave until nearly 5pm. He was really cheerful, though things where not going according to plan. First box he tried did not want to work, he phoned the TiVo team they said it was broken, so he went and got another box. Had a few problems, one being it would not get a Network address and the other being something to do with the card not having any credit on it.
He changed the card, and everything seemed to come through then. He also told me that he could not leave the V+ box as it was an older one and had to be changed for a Samsung V+ , which of course I was not going to complain about. :) At last look all services are working on the V+ box Have not had chance to really play much yet with the TiVo, but all is looking good. One thing strange though, I mentioned that the catch up TV was apparently not working correct. He looked at the menu picked a catchup program and it went straight to it, but it is not working for me. LOL |

TIVO was installed on monday, everythings been fine, but today when i turned it on to ANY channel it said it was pin locked, this happened on the instal day and the VM tech says its cause all the data was still downloading.
Checked the settings and it was starting to go through the motions of downloading data, got to 99%, and it still says no title available for EVERYTHING! Some people been posting only 24 hrs ahead on guide was available to them today. Programme classification not known, press ok to override parental controls. Has there been an update today, or do i have a fault? Keeps saying preparing to connect! |

Search for a code to control the volume on your AV/Stereo receiver 1. Cover the end of the TiVo remote control with your hand. 2. Hold down the TiVo and MUTE buttons simultaneously until the red (or amber) light on the remote control remains on. 3. Remove your hand from the end of the TiVo remote control. 4. Enter code 1999. After you enter the code, the red (or amber)light will flash three times and then remain on. 5. Press CHANNEL UP once every two seconds. This will test hundreds of codes, one by one. IMPORTANT: Do not go any faster than this or you may skip over a code that works. 6. If you press CHANNEL UP and the volume on your AV/Stereo receiver becomes muted, press ENTER to select the code. Press VOLUME UP and then VOLUME DOWN to test the code. If the volume changes, you have successfully programmed the remote. If you cycle through all the codes, the red LED will go off, indicating that you have tried all the codes. If this happens, or if you selected a code but the AV/Stereo receiver does not respond to the test, try again, to make sure you did not skip over your code by going too fast. Regards John |

I had TiVo installed this afternoon, but am having a problem with the on demand menus.
If I go to TV Choice, By Channel, BBC I can scroll down through the first two pages of shows (down as far as Louis Theroux) but when I try moving to the third page it freezes up for ages and then eventually says there are no programmes available. It does the same thing for 4 on demand. I've tried rebooting the box but still the same problem. |

Just been messing about with catch up from the EPG and to my surprise I was offered the option to "watch from catch up" (or something to that effect). I selected this option and could then select "watch". I quickly exited to try another channel and this also worked. However when I tried a different program yet again I got "on demand is not available at the moment". Tried again and now all requests are back to "go to catch up..."
Could it be that a fix is being tested? |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Well I dont know whats happened here, maybe someone can explain it to me.
I`m watching the Arsenal game on ssp1, I`m recording midsomer murders and also set it to record a film called Crimson Tide at 9pm. 1 minute to 9 a box popped up on the footy telling me that it was changing channels to the film I`m recording, which I dont want it to. It gave me the option to cancel the recording of crimson tide which I didnt want so I let it auto change channels and start recording and then switched back to the footy. Looking at the front, there were 3 red lights on and when I checked to see what the 3 recordings were, the 3rd one was michael mcintyre which I didnt set, weird |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Hi
Have to speak as I find, after highlighting my interest in TIVO last November"ish" and failing on the competition, no joy with 12 month free box, I got the first email a few weeks ago. Next I got the confirmation email of delivery on my second choice date. Got a phone call last night to discuss the installation on the 27th April but had to reschedule for unexpected personal reasons. The great, English accent speaking bloke not only offered me a saturday am slot but said I can keep my V+ and it will be routed upstairs to my sons bedroom with no extra hidden installation cost and the monthly £6.50 I shouild normally have to pay for a second box is waived for ever. I just need to sort out the HD / Sky Films / Sports package being transferred to TIVO and Sky films being kept on the old V+. Virgin might not get everything right but they are certainly moving in the right direction with customer care AFAIAC Negative bit, please more HD + Catch up choice . |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
A minor query this but how can you tell a recording in "My Shows" has been watched? On V+ it stated "viewed", you can remember of course but when you have a lot of recordings it may get a little confusing. Is there a sign change or you just have to remember if you want to keep a recording and watch it again later (my kids do it all the time).

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
A Quick question on tuners.
If you want to record 2 simultaneous programmes on the same channel, does TIVo record both on the same tuner. I'm interested in what happens if I include padding on each show. Does it use another tuner if available, or truncate the lower ranking of one of the shows. Would be a nice feature if you could choose the tuner you want to record! |

Another candidate for usability enhancement, Tivo has many features and a great tool for managing your viewing, justs needs some better usuability logic on the menus or information screens to make it easier to use rather than having to dive into menus and options to find a piece of information. V+ had it right with the status shown as recorded, partial view and viewed being stated in the equivalent to "My Shows" list. Tivo could easily do the same by just changing the small logo to the left of the title of the programme to a different colour or logo sign for the 3 stages of viewing say. That is all it would take. This was another compliant of my wife about Tivo by the way, the battle for acceptance of Tivo in my house continues! VM need to work with Tivo on adding those really useful features on V+ like this, don't get rid of what was right on V+, add to it yes which is where I hope Tivo ends up. |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I have to say that while in the initial stages the lack of communication was a real negative, since the actual launch (in spite of waiting for emails etc) I have been extremely pleased with everything.
Earlier on the thread I mentioned I had 2 Tivo's installed on Friday. One worked great, had some problems wtih the other that continued to get worse to the point that I could watch live TV, and record, but it had no network connection so couldn't do anything 'online' and would have run out of info wth the EPG in a week or so. I am out of the country - left first thing this morning, but called on Tuesday to report the faults and they got me an engineer for Wed afternoon (it could have waited till I got back, but felt better that hubby would potentially have a full working box) which was brilliant. He came and tested all the specific connections etc to the box, but as everything else was working fine, he eventually concluded it definitly was a faulty box. New box installed up and running very quickly though had to wait for EPG to load all over again before being able to put in the series links. I have been so extremely pleased with all my service from VM in the past few months both on the phone (overseas and 'local') and with the engineers/installers who have been round to sort/install various things, and down to the VM staffers as well who frequent the forums. A FAR FAR cry from the old NTL days 11 years ago when I first joined. I know there are still some unhappy with things, but for us we are extremely happy with the service, the value for money and most definitely with the TIVO!!! btw - copied a series off the Tivo overnight before the swap and all was fine - just set the series to play 'all episodes in folder' and let it run while DVD recorded - so while it can't do it in the background, it can still do it if you don't need to be watching/using the TV. |
