MGM HD is having a free weekend from this Friday, maybe it would be a good time to launch on VM?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
Most channels launch first on Sky , but I suppose that's inevitable when they've got 10 million + subscribers , the only channel I can think that's not is Film4 HD and that will arrive sooner or later. VM have plenty of choice in HD channels to add.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
To be fair , Sky have helped many a HD channel setup so a period of exclusivity is understandable , but after that every platform should be entitled to agree deals to carry it.
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
I think a Sky HD channel, or one they are involved in will launch soon because of that Sky 1 HD test.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
Don't want to start any false rumours running, but if you look at the Sky website, there is now no mention of Sky Atlantic (or anything else) being 'exclusive to Sky'.
Maybe just a change of marketing tack? Also see http://www.sky.com/shop/high-definit...e/hd-channels/ . That's the page which previously showed some HD channels being exclusive to Sky. Not any more. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
I'd like to think so but probably a change of marketing tack as you said. If you look at http://www.sky.com/shop/sports/home/...y-virginmedia/ they still show Sky Sports 3/4 and Sky Sports News as not available to Virgin......though we can hope they haven't updated that page yet :)

Can't see Sky opting to give Sky Atlantic and sky sports 3 and 4 with TIVO soon to launch after all Linear TV has always been there trump card.

At the weekend (Saturday I think) I saw an ad in the newspaper that says ''Sky Atlantic exclusive to Sky customers until April 2012.''

With Sky Atlantic, if the viewing numbers aren't big, then they may choose to end the period of "Exclusivity", as by gaining more viewers it would increase advertising revenues more than the number of new sales. Not saying that this is going to happen, but it would appear more plausable than it would have done before launch. Depends on how flexible they are with the business plan. |

VM get a lot of criticism on here ,some of it from me ,however I do feel they've closed the gap a bit more lately ,just makes you wonder on Sky's next move once VM add more HD and fully launch TIVO.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
The problem with glasses-less 3D is it has extremely limited viewing positions. Great for the small screen where you can near guarantee people will be looking at it straight on, but when you're looking at a main tv set you're not going to have an optimal room setup where you're sat in the viewing positions.

Also the BBC have said there not pursuing 3D instead they are concentrating on HD. |

The final stages of Wimbledon will be covered in 3D in partnership with Sony (which is similar to Sky, it seems the TV manufacturers are pouring the real money into 3D, the broadcasters including the likes of Canal+ are not really seriously being exposed financially), obviously the BBC don't have a TV platform to provide this in the UK but it will be made available worldwide and will be available here at other outlets like cinemas and private closed circuits. They are not satisfied that the current technologies will become the de facto standard so seem to be keeping all their options open which seems wise. And let's face it even Sky (with their solitary 3D channel and endless repeats) are not exactly going bust with 3D as there simply isn't the content to support it. It's HD which appears to be driving subs for them and VM and I think that will be the case for quite some time yet. http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2011/...-3d-standards/ |

I find it odd that people complain about VM not having all the channels that Sky have but when one gets released they ridicule it for not being a channel they watch. Well guess what, people watch Colors TV, A LOT of people watch it (Unlike Sky Atlantic ;)).

No idea why I put baked, but I think it's due to the rumbling in my tummy right now! Any channel rumours that are very likely/certain to be tomorrow? Or is it the 'wait and see' game? |
