I tried the web link ... gives me a error web page not found so im guessing they check the IP address (or similar) and restrict the webpage to the select few

question is .... do they expect you to pay £149 (or more) for the box after 12 months and do they disable or remove the box if you dont ????

once again seems to raise more questions than it answers

EDIT ... tried web address in IE9 and works in that so must be Opera browser

no, you'd just start paying your £3 after 12 months.

To me this indicates that the vast majority of customers will not be getting a tivo installed from April onwards yet more shambolicness from Virgin who said it was coming out in December, pure bull one would say.

Soooo if they are mailing unregistered customers with info can we say it's launched yet or is it still flaccid ;)

Also will this new list of registrants replace the old list, so those of us not called yet get tossed back into a big hat again?

You're forgetting that I have TiVo. Sure some people will have a moan or post about niggles, especially S1 TiVo owners as they will be the most critical. All feed-back is taken on board and the product and service is contantly being improved based on this.

If you want to wait a bit longer, then that's up to you.... nobody is forcing you to get Tivo.

All VM boxes are built specifically to VM spec. Often they are based on a generic design, but they get seriously customised for VM. No-one else has three tuners, for example.

Doesn't really make any odds to me, as realistically I would probably keep the whole service or change the whole lot if for some reason that's what I wanted to do.
Hope that all makes sense!

Hi Topgun, how far into your current contract are you?
I'm 6 months in and having Tivo installed tomorrow but my new contract states 12 months under ALL the services!!!!!

seems a fair offer but the way im reading the situation based on limited info available here ... looks like the calls to customers have slowed if not stopped and there will be another wave after March 20th for the raffle winners

does the raffle include all those who have already got tivo booked & paid for or is it for those not yet contacted ... either way could be seen as unfair by one group or the other :dozey:

BREAKING NEWS

VM have spent 3.2 million pounds trawling the forums and interweb to find out which subscribers are the biggest trouble makers / complainers.

They have used the same group (Anonymous) who haked Mastercard etc to obtain info that will lead to identifying who we are....

The plan is to knobble VOD and BB at awkward times and slow rollout to these "agent provocators" as a form of punishment.....

A VM spokeman when asked if the money could have been better spent on free TiVo's for their best customers replied "Yes I suppose so but this is so much more fun"

Thats it I am now in full Toy / Pram / tossing mode :2up:

Well, to be honest I'm not sure. I've been a customer since the Cable & Wireless days, and over the years I've upgraded my package quite a few times and can't remember when the last time was.
Realistically it makes no difference to me as I am happy with the service (especially as they are giving me a TiVo for free for life:)), and have no intention of leaving unless something changes drastically!
Having my TiVo installed tomorrow as well, hope he/she comes to me first.:D

with approx 1500-2000 boxes at large or booked already and 20000+ who registered ...

makes it 1000 in 20000+ .... or i believe that makes it 1 in 20+ ???? not a betting man so dont know working out odds that quickly

Yes message was downloaded to the box stating service will end June 1st.
Loads of people have contacted Tivo saying please change your mind or tell us how we can receive EPG data some other way etc.

All they have replied with is move to Virgin and you will be happy again. Lots of people not in cabelled areas or not wanting XL TV etc.
They have upset quite a lot of very loyal long standing customers it seems.

There was the option to purchase a lifetime sub for £200 rather than the £10 a month also. I have the lifetime sub but basically in the T&C's it can be ended within 30 days of notice from Tivo.

I've had it for 9 years so had my money's worth but does seem a shame to end their service just because they are now tied in with Virgin.

I guess it would still cost TiVo to carry on supporting the S1 TiVo's. I understand if you are not in a cabled area then it's a problem if you want to carry on using a S1 box.

I suppose TiVo could have stopped the service a good few years ago now after their ill-fated relationship with Sky.

Well I assume there are over 700,000 triple XL customers and if there is 1000 boxes being given away..... Then again how many of those customers will be interested in TiVo and actually register their code on the site?

Does that apply to S1 customers who don't live in a cabled area, or indeed a cabled area that isn't served by VM but someone like say Smallworld or all S1 customers?

Shame if it does apply to all customers but lets face it getting 9 years out of a piece of kit isn't bad going these days but would I be right in assuming the subscriber numbers are pretty low anyway, they only sold around 35,000 S1 didn't they so I wonder how many are still in use anyway.

At least the original customers are being considered years after it was removed from sale.

Ha ha, believe it or not there is still a house just around the corner from us that still has a BSB dish on their house, not a squarial just one of the tiny little dishes they also used, much smaller than the Sky 'mini' dishes in use today.

Maybe we haven't come on as much as we think!

Is this just for the freebie? But of course it's useful if people have entered as you must be interested so are valuable for VM to contact later if you haven't beforehand to contact in future if you don't even 'win'.

I know we all know about Tivo but believe it or not Joe Bloggs probably has no idea what on earth Tivo is. Mad to us but probably true, it hasn't been advertised mainstream has it?.

Tivo isn't exactly 'coke' as a brand here is it, I doubt it even is in the US.

I would imagine like the first tivo lotto that ALL customers will have been included in the draw to receive a raffle ticket and includes those on xl & vip who did not register before and maybe even some on lower tier packages too

not waiting anymore as i wont pay for a box (especially in advance) ... just not had any contact via phone, mail or email here about tivo since i registered in December which is poor IMHO from a communications company

Box swap, then the box downloads all the updates and epg info, then the the installer shows you how to use it.

Got my ticket. Here's the small print on the back for anyone who's interested.

"Like your current Virgin Media box, your TiVo box remains the property of Virgin Media. New 12-month minimum term contract applies. You must remain at least an XL TV customer for the duration of your new 12-month minimum term. At the end of the 12-month minimum term: (a) if you wish to keep your TiVo service, you will be charged the then applicable TiVo fee: (b) if you do not wish to keep your TiVo service, certain functionality on your TiVo box will be disabled; (c) if you cease to be an XL TV customer, V+ HD monthly fee may also apply on top of your TiVo monthly fee. All other services you take remain chargeable; only the monthly TiVo fee is waived. One TiVo box per account. Other Legal Stuff applies. See registration page."

Ok, Question people, please help.

I have that little letter with the ticket on the front.

Should I register? - I have £200 or whatever incase but will I get it free or is the 1000 picked at random. Cant see me having much chance.

What benefits do you get if you enter the URN number on the letter?

PLUS: Is it too late to enter now, I presume the 1000 will have gone by now? And if I register and dont get picked will they still have me registered for one that I will have to pay for?

The video on the website suggests if you are one of the lucky 1000 selected you'll receive TiVo on Virgin for 1 year. I'll assume that means free box and instillation plus no monthly rentals. I certainly see no harm in registering, at least that way you've got a chance.

I would register, also if you win one you will get a complimentary TIVO box and not have to pay the £3 per month for 12 months.

Also I don't think you are too late, Virgin will pick 1000 winners from those who enter before the 20th March, I think.

This is to register for the draw not to book one ;)

What BIG-TED has said it is for the draw and not to book one. As i posted earlier in the thread:

As you may have read already, We'll soon be offering all our VIP 50, VIP 20 and XL TV customers (who also have Virgin Media Broadband and Phone) the chance to become one of 1000 lucky customers to win a special TiVo deal. You will receive information about this prize draw over the coming weeks , giving you the chance to win a complimentary TiVo box.

The first prize draw was also a random selection from a list of our VIP customers. As you can imagine, we can not give a complimentary box to our whole base, so a prize draw is the fairest way we can approach this.

We are also continuing to prioritise our existing customers to make sure they are the first people in the country to get a hold of this fantastic new service.

Re: TiVo

This ticket to get a free Tivo - is this definitely going out to all VIP customers as today I received the call and have paid £149 and accepted the £3 extra monthly charge. Will I still get a ticket? And if I do and am one of the 1000 what happens??

Re: TiVo

Boo no raffle ticket and I'm on VIP50, instead VM just sent me the following email

The countdown is on!

A little while ago, you let us know you were interested in our new TV service, Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo®. We’re delighted you’re as excited about the new service as we are! We’re looking forward to bringing it to you as soon as we can. In fact, that’s why we’re getting in touch.

Here's the latest...

The new TiVo service will be available to the general public in the next few months. But you won’t have to wait that long to get your hands on it.

At Virgin Media, our customers come first. That’s why we’d like to offer you the chance to order your TiVo service before it goes on sale to the rest of the Great British public which we expect to be in April. What’s more, we’ll make sure you’re first in the queue to have your service installed, with priority installation, just for Virgin Media customers.

If you’re interested, you don’t need to do a thing. We’ll be in touch around the end of March to let you know how you can get the TiVo service before it goes on general sale. For now, you can sit back, relax and wait for all the good stuff to come to you.

Yes, the only way to get one is to recieve a call from VM offering you one.

Re: TiVo

As to the email, I was feeling excited about TIVO when I registered before I learnt that a few lucky people got a free remote and free install, and a few people were getting their installs, and a raffle ticket with no subs for 12 months but the lack of communications has taken the edge off :sulk:

We’ve had an amazing response to our new service from our existing customers so will be offering them priority installations throughout March. We expect the new TiVo service to be available to the general public in April and we’ll make sure that you’re first in line before it does go on general sale. From then on you’ll be able to search, browse, record and explore even more on your TV. Get set to transform your TV experience very soon!

We’ll be in touch again nearer the time to bring you more of the details. For now, you can sit back, relax and wait for all the good stuff to come to you.

Yours sincerely,

The Virgin Media team.

I actually got both emails...

I originally registered with my gmail account before I was a Virgin customer and that account today received the same email as Parlyboy.

After becoming a Virgin customer I thought I better register again as an existing customer this time, using my virgin address. That account received the email that the others are reporting.

Patience is not my strongest point...oh well.

Darn - not only did I not get the flyer (I suspect I will tomorrow), but no email either (and I pre-registered). That's it - VM must really hate me - *stomps off in a huff*

Just kidding :) As I've said before it'll get here when it gets here

Hi, my first post, I think. I have not registered for TIVO, in fact was not that interested in it but I received a letter in the post today. In it was as a URN - Unique Reference Number and a request to register, which I have and I'll guess I just wait and see now.

Re: TiVo

To be honest, I find the whole thing to be completely disorganised. Phone calls to some who have registered for install. Some people getting it free, now this ticket thing and an email that says end of march.

Re: TiVo

Got my email as well this evening. Atleist it's some kind of acknowledgement at last.

Re: TiVo

the thing that gets me annoyed a bit is .... lucky lotto / raffle tickets are going to those who didnt even register and those that did register are being told they will be contacted at the end of March just before its thrown open to all .... Sorry VM thats just not treating the customers who registered right IMHO

add to that the reports that quite a few features arent yet finalised it appears that the box is actually unfinished to a certain degree ... very poorly handled launch/pre launch and any new deal for VIP customers (which they still havent announced) needs to be very good to regain brownie points with me
