Its fair enoght virgin need to charge £7 per hd box but would have been better if they just charged the once regardless of how many boxes you have.
In a tec world in which we live in i feel its disgusting that we have to pay any thing extra for hd.Also in my case ofcom said virgin would pay that much for the hd why was cs or retetions not told thim,i relly would have not left sky if i knew they was going to charge that much per box.
I would only have been paying £6 more for a lot more hd channles then what virgin have my self as i said im on xxl broadband 2 hd boxse xl TV and xl phone isint that enoght money for them without me having to pay an extra £14 im up £100 per month then:(

I have Sports but not movies and was looking forward to getting HD on any of them but £7 to get just 2 of those channels in HD is way too much on top of what's already quite an expensive add-on package.

I'll be sticking to the SD channels for now which to be fair have a pretty good quality pic anyway.

Might consider dropping my BB down a tier and using the money saved to get the HD sports but will have to think about that.

Moving to Sky isn't an option as I can't have a dish where I am.

I do agree with the particular sky sports Hd issue you mention.

But honestly i think the VIP pack will still turn out to be the best way to go in the end for those wanting just Sky sports Hd. What i mean is having the whole dam lot(movies Hd to) will turn out to be better overall value for money , than adding things on an individual basis.

And for everyone in the end it obviously comes down to , you pays your money you takes your choice.

I do agree though that VM make very little profit on the premium channels and the new HD charge. They only do it to keep customers happy by giving them what they want.

I'm sure VM would have loved to have put Sky Premium HD channels as inclusive (if you take Sky Prem SD) to the XL /VIP packs, but Sky's pricing won't allow it and VM can't take any more losses, they have to make some profit if they are to grow the business and offer even better services...

The alternative would have been no Sky HD channels at all.

Maybe VM should charge everyone £10 for the access to all HD instead? VM's hands are tied on this one... it's Sky setting the wholesale price, they can't do anything about it.

They have provided as much HD as possible as inclusive to XL/VIP... with more to come, Sky1 HD, Sky arts HD etc.

@ the point of the Five HD Press release it states current HD count was 13 and a further 20 HD Channels including Sky Sports and Movies expected later this summer.

13 count = BBC, Living, ITV, C4, E4, FIVE, FX, SyFy, Discovery, Nat Geo, MTV, Eurosport and ESPN

20 count = Film 4, 2 x Sky Sports and 10 x Sky Movies -coming soon Sky1, Sky Arts 1&2

So that leaves 4 HD channels remaining - ESPN Americia is 100% and i think Bio, History and a Food TV Channel (Good Food or Food Network)

The person I spoke to today stated between 10-15 extra HD channels by end of the year so taking that we get the extra 7 above this still leaves another 3-8 HD channels to come by end of year.

What annoys me is the Virgin Advert saying you can save £13 a month compared to Sky, but in the small print says Sky price includes up to 20 meg broadband and evening and weekend calls, but with Virgin it costs £12.50 extra for broadband and £3.45 extra for evening calls.

So in fact it's not cheaper than Sky!

According to the VMTV/SKY HD carriage agreements VM may have access to all Sky HD channels current and future converted.

i.e. Sky Sports News HD is not classed as a prem channel or part of the Sports Bundle its classed as News & Events

I'm guessing this is maybe why the delay of the Sky Basic HD channels coming across.

Cheers BR that certainly sounds promising, for me now the other HD channels I'd really like to see on VM to make it complete would be The History HD and Nat Geo Wild, obviously any others would be welcome, but if we get these two on top of what we already have and are getting, we'll have the best of the bunch on VM.:)

Since last night everytime I go to Channel 888 to 892 I can hear ''On Demand Previews'' but I cant see any film.

Have Virgin turns the Test Channels into Radio. (Can they do that?)

Also my Total Channels has gone up by three from last week.

I emailed CEO office to express my digust regarding the new HD charges and have had a call from June Fitzhugh(CEO`s Office) this morning,I must say i was very impressed she took the time to call me.She did confirm that they are looking at updating the VIP packages and also confirmed that the HD Charge was insisted by sky in order for them to have access to the Premium HD content,I informed her regarding the latest ploy by sky regarding the Half Price sky world offer sky are currently peddling to ex sky/vm customers and that they are quite vocal on the you aint getting 3+4 in hd.Yes i have took the sky offer(£24.25 per month)But i aint gonna cancel with VM,I hate to give sky any of my money but who can turn down a offer like that it would cost me £34.50 just for premium channels with vm.Think it`s time now to just except what as happened and to now get back behind VM,We still get free HD in the XL pack and there is more to come.

You go to www.virginmedia.com/skyhd and pick the option for the same package that you currently have with the HD bolt on.

As it's not possible to add the SD charge twice it will just increase the bill by £7

VM are brilliant at upscaling SD channels to the point I see little difference in their HD channels. In fact on my V+ I never record HD programmes because the pic quality is marginal yet the space used on the HDD is excessive. Except sport! Hence my disappointment at them charging me £37.50 for Sky Sports with only TWO SS HD channels.

You can definetly notice the difference, HD looks stunning on my Sony Bravia LCD and Toshiba LCD. SD looks very good.

Agreed on my 40 inch Samsung 6 Series HD looks amazing. I will say PQ varies though. Watched Cellular last night on Film 4 HD it was amazing PQ.

Many say you need a 40+ inch tv to see any worth while benefits of HD over SD especially with full HD. And obviously viewing distance matters to.

Just ordered SKY HD Premium Channels via CS.

I was told that their due on 26th July. I corrected the guy and said all information points to a August 2nd launch.I was clearly told that the latest email he had stated july 26.He also said I would receive a txt when activated.

I know that info can get distorted which can be annoying but a fact of life.
Sorry to be a pain and go over old ground but can DF or BenMcr re-confirm the correct date.

umm i phoned cs to add the hd pack to my box, and the lady on the phone with the erotic voice said something along the lines of "hi honesy your package has been upgraded, your new channels will appear on your boxes", so i said to her boxes? its only meant to be per box, she said hold on a sec, she then comes back with "i just spoke to my manager and he says its for all boxes" and that was it.

i'll wait till i get my next bill xd

I have TV XL, BB L, Sports+movies, Phone XL, Caller Display £71.49, a month, considering HD.
Just added movies yesterday and the above deal is what I was offered. Asked for a wireless router and was given one free, have to pay the postage. Broadband was not part of the new deal as already had it, just tried to see what I could get for free.
