Re: Snow !
I think it's pretty hilarious.
The BBC, for example, have sort of gambled on this snow flurry as being some kind of cataclysmic event, and it just hasn't happened. For the most part there's been a few inches knocking about, but seriously for it to be really newsworthy you'd expect a couple of feet. I live, pretty much, in the Peak District, above the usual snow line, and we've had nothing you can t handle. But there was a special weather bulletin on earlier which basically said, everything's alright.........thanks. |
Re: Snow !
Paul M am quite disappointed with the amount or the quality of the snow thats dropped was looking forward to going to wollaton tomorrow and have a sleigh or something like that :D

Re: Snow !
It started here at 9am and still snowing at 12:20, I parked at the top of my hill just in front of the double yellow lines.
Some idiot was revving the crap out of his engine trying to get to the top of our hill, then parked behind me on the double yellow lines now making it hard for me to get out. Hopefully he gets a ticket, or has gone before I leave for work tomorrow. |
Re: Snow !
We finally got some ... Not quite an inch of it, but enough to keep the kids happy.

And in any case, if the road markings are obscured by snow, can a ticket be issued as surely a driver would be able to say they didn't know where restrictions applied? |
Re: Snow !
its been snowing for hours here
|
Re: Snow !
Snow falls and there's always at least one idiot who decides it's a good idea to park right on the junction at the bottom of our steep hill thereby making everyone else's access considerably more awkward! Grrrr.....

Caught sight of a week long weather forcast on 'countryfile' prog (last 10min), forcaster was hinting of a warm blast coming to the south west next weekend?
Could do with some cheery weather forcast, even if it's out. (Anyone catch the 5.30pm prog on BBC2 Saturday- The Big Freeze 1963, made this weather look like a slight snowy week) |

Re: Snow !
Just a very light dusting in Winnersh, but my road still has over 2cm of compacted snow making it like a skating rink as the council do not treat it.

Re: Snow !
Temperatures are forecast to plunge to a numbing MINUS 13C this week as an icy blast blows in from France, bringing up to 10cm of fresh snow and blizzard conditions.

Re: Snow !
What is it with numptys that think it is legal to just clear snow from the windscreen, and not bother with lights, roof & other windows.
Then there's Mr BMW who drives at 80+ on the outside lane of the motorway, thats not completely snow free. |

Re: Snow !
saw a car today that had just cleared a hole in the windscreen to look out of the rest of the car was covered in snow. Shame the police don't pull up more drivers like this
|
Re: Snow !
Well, it has now snowed more or less non-stop for 36 hours, but for most of the time it has been very light and the temperature is slightly above freezing, so there's a slight melt happening at the same time. We've got about 3 inches on the ground. Only half a mile from here there's almost nothing to speak of, but we're higher up the hillside than most of our neighbours and only on the very edge of the snow showers affecting central Scotland today. It's supposed to get 'worse' tonight, apparently, so we shall see what the dawn brings.
The school bus was replaced with a Land Rover this morning, which didn't quite make up for the loss of a potential day off. :D |

Re: Snow !
We had heavy hail thunderstorms this morning which layed on ice early this morning and on the A38 there were five 2 car crashes this morning thus sending large parts of the city into utter gridlock for most of the day.

Re: Snow !
So ... Not only has our local school remained open this week, but this lunchtime the staff were shovelling snow back onto the field so that the children who had brought sledges with them could make a decent run. Health and safety and a sensible approach to real life, all nicely balanced.

It's a bit snowy and blowy here in the tri-state area - so it's not just the UK that is affected by adverse weather...
|
Re: Snow !
I think wherever it's Winter is mostly affected, Hugh.
|
Re: Snow !
Actually, Gary, it's exceptional for this area and time of year - they don't normally shut all the roads in Maine, Connecticut, and RI, with record-breaking falls of snow.
|
Re: Snow !
i saw that weather warning on Foxnews a couple of days ago. they said they expected 20-30inches of snow to fall north east

Re: Snow !
Two unsavoury characters have been going around primary schools offering to clear the snow. Police are advising staff to be cautious and report any suspicious behaviour. The men are believed to go by the names of Jimmy Shovel and Gary Gritter.
