Its all over. It was at about 11:30 yesterday!

Re: Cricket
You have got to love the irony, England's fourth choice fast bowler takes a five for and Australia's fourth choice fast bowler was dropped. :D

Australia still 90 runs behind!

Yes a legend and a real hard nut fielding at short leg and being hit full pelt not even flinching

l saw a picture earlier of his bruises after the day of cricket and he must have been in terrible pain because most people certainly would have been.

Re: Cricket
|
Re: Cricket
Well England almost pulled of an unbelievable win v Pakistan in a real dirge of a match.
|
Re: Cricket
Sadly the umpires called them off due to bad light.:(
|
Re: Cricket
Well after nearly pulling off an unlikely win in the first test, England only just failed to hang on for what would have been an amazing draw in the second. Poor first innings let them down. :(
|
Re: Cricket
I like Jos Buttler as a cricketer, but hes not a test player. Let him concentrate on what hes good at and let someone else have a go. I think this team is close to being an excellent team but just need to be more consistent
|
Re: Cricket
He is young enough to improve, Ian Bell is fast becoming the Wayne Rooney of the test team.:(
|
Re: Cricket
As Cooky said if we had a couple more overs to score the runs in the first test the series would now be level.
|
Re: Cricket
Quote:
Bell is a good player who should have been dropped a while back to give him a chance to recover his form and confidence. Having said that he's probably had his best years for England so maybe it's time to move on. |
Re: Cricket
Looking at this test series, was it a case of England improved a lot to beat Australia or a case of Australia not being the powerhouse they once were?
|
Re: Cricket
Home advantage is increasingly a even bigger factor in test cricket then it used to be and that certainly helped England as they could prepare pitches that suited them but alas when teams go away from home then they have to expect the same treatment with regards to the pitches being prepared for the home side.
|
Re: Cricket
Looking so good at close of play yesterday , now England look like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
|
Re: Cricket
Yes its rather disappointing that's for sure.

Well, after getting hammered in the first ODI England have come back strongly and look poised to take the series 3-1. Buttler hits ODI record 100. :)

Shaky start by England in the Test Match today. No way is Hales good enough to open, should have been Compton. Just as well for the rain, with Anderson injured I'd take a draw now.
Sack Cook too, he's rubbish at tosses..... |
Re: Cricket
|
Re: Cricket
Do love a last wicket stand, but only if we're batting ! Disappointing morning but at 301-9 a reasonable score.
|
Re: Cricket
Yes they have just lost their first wicket...

Steyn injured and Anderson back next Test. All looking good to beat the supposed no.1 side in the World on their own turf. |
Re: Cricket
SA are on a bit of a downer ATM and the 'unwritten' quota system of fielding at least 4 non whites means that players like Duminy who has been hopelessly out of form and even the captain Amla are getting picked because there are very few 'coloured' players who are good enough or fit right now.
|
Re: Cricket
Well lets hope their poor form continues...
|
Re: Cricket
Ben Stokes is extracting the urine. 130 in 2 hours even the great Sir Beefy Botham never batted like that

Hopefully we can from this position go on to go 2-0 up in the series.
|
Re: Cricket
Only blemish was dropping the No: 1 ranked test batsman when he was on 9, he is one player who can score double hundreds. :(
|
Re: Cricket
Having seen Amla and AB batting its going to be hard to get them out twice. This morning session crucial;)

Re: Cricket
England tried really hard to mess it up today. For a while it looked as though a side that had scored over 600 was going to lose! Amla has quit as SA capt., God knows why as SA seem to have the momentum going into the next test.
|
Re: Cricket
Well we are still one test up so all the pressures are on South Africa.

Re: Cricket
Don't think England have a chance in the upcoming world T20. Very poor against SA. The captain is a liability. Best Owain could do is go back to Ireland and help them prepare for Test cricket, which it looks like they might have a chance to do under the proposed new 2 league Test structure. Hope they allow him to do that if the chance arises, I'm sure that's where his heart is.
|
Re: Cricket
Personally l agree with you as England are still pretty naïve when it comes to one day cricket still.

Anyone can beat anyone on 20/20, England could even beat NZ tomorrow, unlikely though it may seem ;)

The trouble is that you only have to lose two or three wickets quickly and then its pretty hard to turn it around.

Re: Cricket
England might win today against SA today, anythings possible.... However I predict they'll go home early . They'll lose to to Afghanistan next week because that's the type of thing they do. Batting and bowling ain't good enough, apart from that they're a decent team !

Its the bowling that worries me Mr K.

We haven't got our best bowlers there, this is supposed to be for a World Cup. Where's Broad ? All we've got is 20/20 cannon fodder, and we seem to be relying on a couple of part time spinners. |

Perhaps the wicket may have something to do with it given England's reply, just losing wickets to quickly for my liking but they are giving it a real go.

Still prefer the 'proper' test match game but that was very enjoyable, typical of England to make us sweat for the last few balls, stunning win.:D

Re: Cricket
Yes l prefer the 5 day game as well as it can have so many twists and turns and is a proper test for a cricketer.

Still I suppose it's fitting that a cut down version of the game should have cut to highlights lol It's odd because I was doing some searching earlier and found references to ITV supposedly showing the highlights so I'm not sure what went wrong there. http://www.postnotebook.com/tag/itv-4/ ---------- Post added at 20:09 ---------- Previous post was at 20:07 ---------- Quote:

Re: Cricket
Extended highlights on Sky 3 at 10.30. I'm going to watch it again .
Interesting to note that as much as England's bowlers got slated, they only conceded 4 extra's compared to SA's 26 and as 20 of those where wides it meant England had an extra 3.2 overs to score off. Turns out that the Radio Times got the schedules wrong.:( |
Re: Cricket
Perhaps England weren't that good after all, a little tubby Afghan has just tonked 44 of his first 17 balls against SA. :D
|
Re: Cricket
One must never underestimate these up and coming countries as we have found out before.
|
Re: Cricket
England doing their best to throw this one away, Morgan leaves a straight ball first up then Stokes runs out Root.
|
Re: Cricket
Utter chaos yet again.....:(
|
Re: Cricket
85 for 7,
|
Re: Cricket
142 from 20 overs in the end and if England get out of this mess they can count themselves lucky.
|
Re: Cricket
They did get themselves out of it, but very lucky. Hopefully they'll keep playing Plunkett. Wonder if they dare drop Captain Morgan as he's not worth his place at the moment.

Re: Cricket
In my opinion he would not be my captain of the one day side as l don't really see him as having the right captaincy traits and strengths which are needed in the one day game.
|
Re: Cricket
Personally, I don't think England have had a good captain since Michael Vaughan.
|
Re: Cricket
Of that l am in total agreement with you Mark.
