Excellent .. if they’ve resolved their US distribution woes, presumably those who already hold distribution/broadcast rights elsewhere in the world will now be permitted to proceed (that’s Netflix in the UK, which acquired the rights from ITV Studios). IIRC for past seasons Netflix has dropped it weekly, within about 48 hours of the US broadcast.

[ For anyone who missed the news, it was renewed for Seasons 12,13 & 14 ].

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire will be available on Star Wars Day.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight (Game of Thrones prequel) has cast two of its main leads (and also got a horribly long title).

Tim Kring is working on another Heroes revival, potentially called Heroes: Eclipsed.
The show would be set "years after the events of the original series as new evos are being awakened and discovering powers that will change their lives".
However, as yet, its not been officially picked up by anyone.

The final season (S06) of Cobra Kai will be released in three parts.

The 15 episodes will be split into three sets of five episodes.
The first five will be released on 18th July 2024, the second five on 28th November 2024.
The final five episodes will air sometime in 2025, ahead of the reboot movie, which is due on 30th May 2025.

Netflix has it in the UK. The delay was over distribution in the US. It was picked up over there by AMC after TNT dropped it, with a view to screening it early in 2025. The decision to pull it forwards to this summer is very welcome and I suspect will have involved some pressure from Netflix.

I’d be amazed if they don’t drop it within 24-48 hours of AMC doing so. That’s how they handled TNT’s weekly drops for seasons 1-3. Netflix is fully aware of the annoyance of spoilers online.

LOTR The Rings of Power will start airing Season 2 on 29th Aug 2024.
Agatha All Along (The WandaVision spinoff) will start airing Season 1 on 18th Sep 2024.

Wandavision dropped in 2021. LOTR:ROP dropped in 2022 but with the entire 5-season run already pre-announced.

Surely the writers strike can only be blamed up to a point.

Tomb Raider Season 1 is being released by Netflix in October (10th).
Note this is an animation series, not live action, Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter) is voicing Lara.

Paramount has cancelled its live action Dungeons & Dragons, before it ever really got off the ground, someone else may take it on.

I believe they are going to be diverting heavily from the game which may well upset a fair few of the Sony players. Being a PC gamer I am as of yet been unable to play Part 2 but hopefully that will change because rumour has it the port has been ready for a while

They've announced the main cast already. Including Jemma Redgrave as well as that other main UNIT guy. Starts filming next month. Also Russell and Gugu are playing new characters and not the same ones they've played before.

It was also not really the BBC or Disney that announced it but Russell T Davies himself on stage at the Doctor Who panel at SDCC.

Vought Rising has been ordered by Amazon, this is a Boys prequel set in the 1950s
Jensen Ackles will return to star as Soldier Boy, and Aya Cash as Stormfront (then known as Clara Vought).

Soldier Boy is also set to return in the [final] Season 5 of The Boys itself.

The [planned] Battlestar Galactica reboot has been cancelled by Peacock.
According to reports, its being shopped to other outlets (In other words, its basically dead).

Like many great tv events, Lost, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead (a bit) and potentially Breaking Bad, The Battlestar Galactica reboot, didn’t know how to end, or end well. It had run too long, had too many plot lines, had introduced Lore and didn’t know how to resolve them all satisfactorily for the viewers that had stuck with it.

I’m not sure where a new BSG could have gone. If anything I would have liked to have seen them continue the original series (updated where needed in FX and costume of course), and ignore the 1980 variant.

After being dumped by Disney+, Nautilus was picked up by AMC.
However, they have shown no interest in showing it atm, with no dates announced.
In the meantime its shown up on Swedish channel 'SVT', and french channel 'France 2'.
In addition, its now been announced the show will be on UK Amazon Prime from Friday 25th October.

Its now been confirmed it will air on TNT (home of the original series) in 2025.

A new Zorro series is currently being developed by CBS.

Revival is a new series coming to Syfy - apparently based on a comic series.
The series is set in a small town where many of the dead come back to life one day.

The lead time for some of these streaming shows is quite insane, even allowing for the writers strike. It’s getting increasingly hard to imagine how US TV studios ever used to commission a series and then make 20+ episodes a year, every year, for 5 years or more. And as for the days when different parts of the Star Trek or Stargate franchise would overlap in production … well.

Just burnt through all six episodes (and I never/rarely "binge-watch" series).

Just as good as the excellent first season, never goes where you expect it to, great writing (with some mordant humour), and once again, the last thirty seconds throws everything up in the air…

Strongly recommend this series.

2 years to the day since season 1 started to drop. *2 years* to commission and produce 8 episodes. Had this been a network broadcast show of 20 years ago, there’d be 45 or more episodes out already and we’d be about to get another couple of dozen more.

But that just illustrates part of the problem - in the good old days the network would have contracts with stars of their big new shows with optional clauses to ensure their availability should a second season get green-lit. The fact that they produced a hit and then couldn’t get their star back for 18 months betrays poor commissioning strategy at Netflix, which seems still to be enslaved by an inflexible approach to measuring how and when subscribers view the content. There doesn’t seem to be room any more for the industry experience that can identify a hit and respond quickly.

Apple TV+ dropped the news today that its sci-fi epic series Silo, starring Rebecca Ferguson, has been renewed for Seasons 3 & 4, with 4 being the last. This gives them time to plot and plan a proper finale.

Disney+ has ordered a revival of the classic Malcolm in the Middle - with Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek returning to reprise their roles in the original series. The revival will consist of 4 episodes.
