Although I feel sorry for anyone with the virus and genuinely wish Donald and Melania a swift recovery, I did find this darkly funny. :D:D:D

Irony, maybe?

I don't know why he felt the need to go on a tangent about hypothetical cures for the virus in the middle of a press conference though.

Because he’s a narcissist. He believes he has something important to add to any field he chooses to comment on and that everyone deserves to admire his free-thinking brilliance as much as he does.

BREAKING: White House official says U.S President Donald Trump, is experiencing mild symptoms of Covid-19.

As a humanitarian and the sake of the stability of the USA (and possibly beyond), I hope it remains mild, but given his age and weight he is at heightened risk of it developing into a serious problem over the coming week.

This could get quite bad quite fast. He has the best healthcare possible and doesn't drink or smoke but otherwise, he is in the most at-risk group. Old and overweight. :erm:

Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican national committee, has reportedly tested positive for coronavirus. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have tested negative.

There are two areas to consider.

Those who get it bit are asymptomatic and carry on regardless.

Those who get it, early onset of symptoms begin and they can progress rapidly depending on risk factor.

Remember our own Prime Minister, Johnson his symptoms started like Trumps and then progressed to the point he ended up fighting for his life in Intense care and Trump is has 20+ years on Boris.

Following up on the irony of all this, he deserves to go through the mill.
Obviously I wish him an eventual recovery, but for the sake of politics, he has been playing with American lives in his apparent approach to CV.

When he comes out the other side, will that humble him?

Yup him having symptoms is very concerning.

As much I seriously dislike Trump I hope he pulls through quickly. Not only in a general human way but also because the ramifications of him becoming seriously ill or dying before the election would be huge.

If he unable take part in the November election then all that postal voting to date will be in vain.

Quote:

If Congress were to decide that the coronavirus pandemic warrants pushing back the election date, it would have to change the laws that govern the date of the general election, as well as the dates that states are expected to send their electoral votes to Congress. As the National Constitution Center points out, these changes would require the consent of both houses of Congress.

But while Congress would have latitude to move elections to an earlier date, there’s far less wiggle room for pushing them back thanks to the 20th Amendment. Ratified in 1933, this constitutional amendment specifies that the four-year terms of both the president and vice president will end at noon on January 20 following an election year—regardless of whether an election has taken place.

"There are no provisions of law permitting a president to stay in office after this date, even in the event of a national emergency, short of the ratification of a new constitutional amendment,” the Congressional Research Service stated in a March 2020 report on postponing federal elections.

Who would fill the vacancy on January 20 if an election hasn’t taken place and the Constitution hasn’t been amended? The report argues that the rules of succession would come into effect, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives—an office currently held by Democrat Nancy Pelosi—would become acting president.

This is where having watched Designated Survivor comes in handy. :D

But my (amateur) understanding is that, should Pelosi get the job, she keeps it until the next election ... so “acting” president is a bit of a misnomer.
