Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
I looks like you guys are having mixed fortunes when dealing with Boxnation. I'm happy that after almost 2 months of silence we now seem able to have proper 2 way conversations with them.
It's good news about the classic fights, good news about their website being upgraded, bad news about lack of promotional incentives. The main thing for me, if they are still operating, is what they intend to do when the boxing season comes to a close for 5 to 6 weeks at the end of July? Nobody is going to pay £10.00 per month for no live action. Maybe Frank Warren, with his large stable of fighters, intends to box right through and ignore the end of the boxing season. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
[QUOTE=thatllbeme;35335770]some questions i asked on the facebook page have been answered
me-any chance of showing some of the great fights in world boxing over the last 20 or so years barrerra maroles pacquiao gatti corales castilla among others. cheers boxnation-You'll be glad to know that we will indeed be showing some great old fights as well as the new ones too! Hope you enjoy it... unless they have told you what old fights they are going to show when not showing live action i will be very sceptical because frank warren can only show the few fights he owns sole rights too.and they dont include classics.it will cost him a fortune to buy the temporary rights to all the fights we would like to see.the old fights he has shown these last 4months have been far from classics, although i have enjoyed watching martin rogan do harrisson etc.that may give you an idea what his old fights may be like.last nights card was a poor one too.the lads are brave to get in the ring but theyre not a good watch. |

http://www.virginmediaentertainment....n/Default.aspx "Premium TV Services are provided to you by Virgin Media Entertainment". So just like SKY Sports, SKY Movies etc... when you subscribe to Boxnation you aren't actually getting then service from them at all. Virgin are providing the channel. So it will be true that Virgin are in control of any promotional incentives, and I suppose the actual price on their own platform. So if you take Boxnation you aren't actually a Boxnation customer. Virgin are the customer of Boxnation. We are simply consumers. I wonder how the carriage deal works? Maybe Virgin pay Boxnation a flat rate to carry the channel each month regardless of how many subscribers it gets i.e. £50,000 per month. Virgin then essentially have complete control how they distribute the channel. Alternatively maybe Virgin get £1.00 of the £10.00 subscription fee with the other £9.00 going to Boxnation directly. It's all very interesting, and way over my head. Nothing but pure speculation other than the fact that Boxnation are only providing the channel to SKY customers directly and not Virgin customers. |

"There will be daily fight news updates and an extensive archive bringing back classic fights from home and abroad and featuring some of the world's greatest ever boxers including Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard and many more." I'll have a root around as I specifically remember something being published online confirming Golden Boy Promotions would be providing action from their archive as would KOTV. Whilst ESPN have a great classic archive do not underestimate how much footage KOTV own the rights too. Once I have the link I'll post it. |

Unlike Virgin Media, the Sky platform is required by law to be open to all broadcasters |

For anyone who doesn't know the Valero story: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8630196.stm Also here's some footage of him in action. You'll see why he won all 27 of his fights by K.O! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nrn5T...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI63_...eature=related |

Wasn't aware of Valero... great bully style, tough chin as well by the look of it. Reminds me of a lightweight LaMotta which is no bad thing.

His brain surgery in 2001, prior to turning pro, really held him back. He struggled to fight in America with most of his career based in Venezeula, Mexico and Japan. His aggressive in your face style, plus crazy punch power was a pleasure to watch. He could have been a massive name if he fought in the States more often. He's now in a short list of former world champions who's career ended without defeat. Many say his head injuries from 2001, plus punches taken in the ring, may have caused demons which contributed to the violence towards his wife. There is also speculation cops killed him in his cell and made it look like suicide. I personally feel people are trying protect his legacy. I don't condone what he done but becoming a 2 weight world champion by the age of 27, without really featuring in America is a massive accomplishment. 27 fights, 27 wins by K.O. is impressive. One day someone will make a movie about this guy. His story is far too triumphant and dark for it not to be told. Thinking back Valero was on the books of Golden Boy Promotions. Maybe Boxnation will repeat some of his fights? His first 18 ended in the first round. You could probably watch this guys whole career within 4 hours. If you want to see a crazy K.O. check this out from last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzmY8KJY74Q Best K.O. of 2011! |

Boxing Super Fights can be pretty good at times. It just bugs me watching it on Eurosport HD. The picture defaults back to 4:3 with black bars down the sides. The HD logo hangs "off the screen" |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
So does this channel actually provide the boxing that so many fans have been missing out on since Sky began to milk the sport? :erm:
