A dismal display yesterday by the hoops.
they threw away 3-1 lead to come out 4-4. I am not slating Gordon Stachan, but I am slating the defence. they should not even be allowed to play school boy football. :td: ik |
Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
too early to judge strachan he doesnt have his own team yet and the squad are used to MON tactics, but MON is a hard act to follow you can expect his team to give 120% so any manager replacing him is going to struggle.

Strachan is a good manager, and I hope he can get the best out of Celtic  But Balde has not been playing football since he wanted to leave in january, he may have lost us the league because of it. time to let him go IMO. Varga started out great but is flaging now, what is his problem, is it because martin has gone? Martin was great No doubt, but he was bought to play football for the club, not the man. Mo Camara, does not even sit in defence although he is a left back! why? slow and is not got a good defensive eye. why did we buy him? We need good solid defence to go any further in europe and dare I say it.... the league. I am fine with the keepers, although I would have Marshall as second goalkeeper, and thte new Boruc dude as first pick. a decent midfield, in Nakamura, Petrov, McGeady (although he is greedy, never plays an easy ball, and runs into trouble). let lennon go, he is a bit slow, good eye, but lacks essential pace. Thompson has lost it totally, a few nice crosses is all he has left. we have enough strikers, but I hope strachan can find the perfect team here, wether it be Maloney + Hartson/ majiec (or whatever his name is) + aliadier (french boy) or even Maloney, Aliadier with sutton sitting just behind, who knows, we have good guys who can score. My main problem is with footballers who get paid sh*t loads of money to play a sport most of us wish we could play better, but they don't seem to perform anymore. they are professional. they should be playing for their wages, not when it suits them. I would punish the ones responsible by placing thtem in the youth team until they understood that they are a team player and will play any tactic they are given, and play where they are placed (obviously they have better positions). there is no I in team. ik |

Young Boys ****dorf erection relief The supporters of Young Boys Bern have not had too much to celebrate in the 19 years since their team last won the Swiss league title. But this weekend Young Boys sought to shake off their old image by officially opening the 32,000 Stade de Suisse ****dorf stadium -- which cost 350 million Swiss francs ($271.3 million) -- with an uncharacteristically flashy homecoming party. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlin...337901&cc=5739 |

Celtic are still coming together as a team, the performance midweek was a disaster i will agree, but Motherwell at the weekend was another story - they scored some fantastic goals that were not defensive mistakes, rather they were well crafted strikes. For some Celtic fans to be banging on already about how Stachan should go and how the team is crap this year is quite frankly ludicrous and shows them up for the glory hunting idiots that most of them are. Europe may be over for Celtic - but there another 37 games to go in the league. |

I think celtics mentallity is that they are better then any team in scotland besides rangers, and the european minnows we played, we are not giving teams the respect they deserve. the only player on the park on saturday that was wanting to play well and win was shaun maloney, he played his heart out. Petrov played well but not his best. the usual players had a stinker apart from hartson, he did do justice and headered 2 and scored the penalty. plus the players are not playing to the whistle, they look to the ref with puppy dog eyes and let the opposition play on, then we have a few players out of the game because they cannot beliee their luck at not getting the free kick/penalty. Poor Falkirk didn't have a good scoreline, but how did they play? I think your manager John Hughes, will have them playing better throughout the season. __________________ Quote:

We had about 60% of the possesion during the game but had very few shots, (i think the official stats were that we had 6 and they had 16 shots). A good lesson for Hughes i think. Also, our young boy up from Duffy is a bit on the weak side, too easy to fall over, he's going to need to toughen up a bit. We will definately improve though - im sure of that. |

I have still to see them in action this season.

I hope the rumoured transfer of Owen to United goes through - it'll annoy the scousers no end and he'll be an excellent replacement for the past-his-best RVN.
