The title of this thread indicates ACTUAL THINGS COMING TO VIRGIN TV - it would be good if people only posted confirmed additions rather than their theories.

By all means start a thread for people's thoughts but don't post the. On this thread

JJ20X has also confirmed that "The channel took the unique service id prior to the new Prime Video (sport) service".

So that only TWO unknown channels set to launch.

We are only missing out the following Disney Channels (FYI: Nat Geo and FOX is now own by Disney).

Disney Channel HD (Broadcasts in Virgin Media Ireland areas right now).
Disney Junior HD
Disney Junior +
Disney XD HD
Disney XD +1

So maybe the old Nat Geo Wild slot will be use for something else.

Could it be that VM have signed a deal for the two +1’s to launch now, with HD coming in the New Year?

A channel update slate has appeared on Digital Bit Rate (CO47)

14h00>18h00 Nat Geo Wild is now exclusively available in HD on 265

Not seen one for Nat Geo yet

This either contradicts the previously reported info suggesting it was moving to 262, or it's the first stage in a multiple stage plan where channels go HD first and then a week later they move EPG number.

The UKTV Pay channels are free to everyone according to JJ20X on Forumbox. UKTV usually do this at Christmas time on VM, so this will be temporary.

I can confirm that I've now the HD versions of those I normally don't, so this is live.

Thanks for that.

BTW your photo seems to show that your TV is cropping the picture. Since I don't have NG Wild I'm not sure how their logo normally looks in the corner, but the yellow rectangle is off the edge of the screen.

Having previously had a TV which cropped all the way around and didn't allow it to be fixed in the settings I'm familiar with this sort of thing. It may be worth your while looking though. Our replacement TV fortunately had the suitable settings, on ours it was Full Pixel that was needed.

Thanks for the advice, I'll have a look at the settings, I mostly use the TV nowadays to record continuities and to inspect the output, the main TV is downstairs. :D

I’m happy with that because that’s one service I’m after. I also understand that Peacock will be a free, ad-supported service like YouTube, with the option of a paid, ad-free version.

As someone who hasnt kept up what is:
1) the Peacock app.
2) What is the WB streaming service

I would have thought we wouldnt get anything from comcast direct as their tv shows are owned by different companies internationally

The Warner Brothers app is basically HBO stuff with Warner Brothers films added. As you know we receive HBO programming through Sky Atlantic in this country, hence the reason we won't be getting it in the UK initially.

I don't think HBO Max (Warner Bros. new streaming service) will be coming to the UK as long as they have content deal with a third party such as Sky. HBO themselves don't usually broadcast or provide services in countries where they have a deal with a local partner, India is probably the only exception, but their version of HBO only airs movies, their shows air on Star World.

WarnerMedia has also signed up to a comprehensive deal with Sky for a chunk of the content that will be available on HBO Max as well as more VOD content for their kids channels.

Also I have checked my TV settings, and there's no way to sort out the picture cropping, it's quite an old (10 years) and cheap TV anyway, it's still working so I have no reason to get rid of it.

And then there's another Warner Brothers streaming service, DC Universe. I can't see that coming to UK either, for similar reasons.

Perhaps for now but will depend on what deal can be done with Sky for new rights.

As long as we get the content, I am not too concerned about this. However, ultimately, it will all migrate to streaming and on demand. It's all part of a process.

Looks like a cost saving merger of content based on the type of content shown in the video and there being no information about what the closing channel's space will be used for (so far).

I would imagine that this is just the start of a long process of rationalisation. Programmes are currently being spread too thin over all these channels. By having fewer channels, this should improve the overall content of those that remain, before they, too, are wound up in favour of an increased number of streaming services.

That was my first thought, but I know there is a 5Spike+1 so maybe they'll just change the SD version of Paramount into a +1 of it and use the vacated space as launch space for the Pluto app that is coming as part of the recent Viacom deal.

The other Channel 5 offshoots (5USA, 5STAR and 5SELECT) are all SD only, so I'd far rather they made use of the extra channel spaces created to give us the HD versions. I have not recorded anything from those channels for some time, but I may do so for one or two programmes if they were shown in HD.

Let’s be honest here, the Pluto app is hardly a gamechanger

Unless you want to watch a random episode of Home Under the Hammer, Inspector Gadget, FailArmy or cats n dugs there ain’t much on it and it cannot even be recorded, you can only see now and next.

It’s just a mush of random rubbish

I never said it was a game changer, I never passed any judgement on its content.

I was simply saying it was announced it was coming already. It's likely it will have an information slate and EPG position like Youtube/Netflix/AmazonPrime/Hulu do, and it's also likely to take an existing Viacom-occupied slot to do so.

Absolutely, I never implied you did, I just stated it’s not a gamechanher by any means.
It has plenty of content (albeit not quality ) just a poor interface

When I looked at it on Roku it looked like the VM TV EPG with a different colour and channel listing. It was frustratingly slow though, it discouraged much exploring. Probably better on newer Rokus though.

I'm thinking it would probably be a good idea to make Paramount Network HD-only on VM before Christmas. The moving to 5Spike's slot in January will be more straightforward if they don't happen simultaneously.

l have seen some good programmes on there which you don't get on the normal BBC channels.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)

I only really use it to watch Beechgrove Garden, because they transferred the first showing off BBC2 Scotland when that lost its regional schedule. Though it was still national on BBC2 on Sunday mornings and iPlayer.

Everything on BBC Scotland has been repeated on another BBC channel up here at some point, usually BBC1 Scotland (though Guilt was on BBC2 throughout UK a few days later). And of course it's all on iPlayer.

Though this is all off-topic. So...
I wonder how quickly VM will get the BBC Sounds TV app when the News and Sport TV apps close? I'd imagine it will be fairly soon.

denphone 17-12-2019 09:03

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)

Lets hope VM do get the BBC Sounds TV app quite quickly as one would hope its sometime in February in which it hopefully arrives.

Is La Liga TV just a background channel similar to Scouse And **** TV?

Or does it have rights to the live La Liga games (thought these had been sold to Prem Spts?)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)

La Liga TV is Prem Sports, it was part of the deal they made.

No. It is a separate channel, it was part of the La Liga deal that they have separate service as well as showing games on their existing channels.

That's not what the article says, MB.

Viewers will be able to choose from a free version of the service, or access a premium "Plus" version of the service for £5.99 a month, which will contain more live sport. The premium service is also available via Amazon Prime Video and via cable on Virgin TV.

The article says it's closing on Sky. Later in the article it says it's still going to be on Virgin, though what's available will be a premium service for £5.99 a month. So it might still be on the EPG.

We think it will stop broadcasting on Channel 298 to everyone and become an Red Button Channel like Youtube.

The way RXTV has reported the story is poor.

So where has it been reported better (apart from on your blog), MB? Where have you got your information from? I have not read any reports saying what you're saying, or is this speculation on your part?

Here's the H&C FAQ. Lots of platforms mentioned, but not Virgin.

That bit about the Red Button Channel is just speculation on my part.

We will need to wait until January 18th before we know that is going to happen to Channel 298.

What I don't get is why you think Horse & Country is being withdrawn from Virgin Media. Where is your source for that information?

If it is just your belief, that is fine, but my point is that you have no credible source for that conclusion.

The Channel only broadcasts as an TV Channel in the UK and Holland and Virgin Media pick up their signal for the channel from Astra (Sky) so unless they move the signal to the Holland one it will also close on Virgin Media.

The Channel also broadcasts in Holland on the following Cable Networks.

Ziggo (The channel is shown in HD)
Caiway
DELTA
Kabel Noord
Kabeltex Netherlands
Stichting CAI Harderwijk

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)

Universal Channel and VH1 are both closing in the coming few weeks.

https://www.rxtvlog.com/2019/12/univ...-1-uk-axe.html

Universal TV, best known for its diet of NCIS and CSI series, will no longer be available from 27th January 2020

This follows the announcement that 5Spike will cease broadcasting in January. Could this be the beginning of many more scheduled channel closures as the streamers take over?

Perhaps we should re-name this thread 'Going Soon on Virgin Media'?

Looks like Universal and VH-1 will be closing soon. RXTV reports that they will close on Jan 27th on BT but nothing confirmed by other providers as yet.

It easy to know why Universal Channel is closing. To make way for Sky Comedy to launch.

VH1 shows can easy move over to other ViacomCBS Channels like 5Star and BET.

I think Comedy Central Extra will be the next ViacomCBS Channel to go.

On Sky all ViacomCBS Channels are broadcasting on FOUR transponders but ViacomCBS are also letting space for three channels (Nicktoons, Nick Jr. and Nickelodeon) and sitting beside Channel 4's Music Channels.

Streamers have been popular for a number of years now with Netflix, Amazon and Now TV in millions of homes, and yet still we have more linear channels than ever before.

https://www.barb.co.uk/viewing-data/...e-tv-compared/

Interesting that despite this people still watch the vast majority of television 'live'.

Why will the new streamers revolutionise consumer behaviour in a way Netflix, Now TV, Amazon etc have not?

I emailed H&C on December 20th asking if it would still be available on VM after 31st January. I've just received a reply back from Melanie H&C Customer Support Advisor saying

Yes Virgin is staying as it is.
