It'd better be in HD then as dogs don't see SD very well.

$10 a month! Wonder what that'll translate to in English?

Blimey, VM really are barking up the wrong tree! Sorry ;)

I know we finally got SN HD and SSN HD on 1st Jan but other than the price increase have we had anything else? Really seems a slow six months with VM at a bit of a standstill!

First the 'PAWS' remote from VM, now a dog channel. I think Media Dog is behind this.

Not in the near future no same applies to trutv.

Dogs TV alone justifies the price increases...

Nah I still reckon it's suspicious renewing contracts with channels long term , increasing bills, not spending any additional money on new channels or packages. As a buyer I'd be more appealed by virgin media
Still think vm they're trying to sell or maybe the channel acquisition team have got lost somewhere

Maybe they don't currently have one Vince and the vacancies are 'coming soon' :)

It really is bizarre as last year this thread used to be a hive of activity and if I missed a few days I'd have several pages to catch up on. Can now miss a few days and only have a few posts to catch up with!

Guess it could be everyone is happy with what we've now got or they've given up hope on the channels we don't have.

We think Virgin Media and UPC Ireland acquisition teams will become one.

But Virgin Media bosses are just doing things the Telewest way - Going for new channels when broadcasters deals are up.

What set to happen in June on Virgin Media:
-Nat Geo Wild HD may launch next week (June 2nd).
-Sky Arts 2 and Sky Arts 2 HD to close on June 9th.
-Some V0-- Channels are still testing (As of Sunday) real names TBC.

It's on Freeview, so if you have an aerial you should be able to receive it.

Why on earth do VM wait till the deal comes up, before going for more.

On Sky, as soon as a new channel comes out - it goes straight on the system. Liberty Global / VM directors must treat its customers as mugs - at the end of the day, its us that pay the bill

And l for one wont pay for BT Sport, if it becomes a pay channel

If, like me, you're fed up with 'Coming Soon' and want it now then Sky have 50% off for 12 months again for Virgin switchers - http://www.sky.com/shop/offers/switch-to-sky/

£37.88 for everything (minus BT Sport of course) is truly a bargain!

Thanks Superblade. As much I disliked my service from Sky previously, I have messaged my new landlord to see if he will let me have a Sky dish.

That deal is too good to miss and seeings as VM's retentions team can only offer me a £1.50 saving on my current bundle, with out throwing in sports or movies, I am happy to take a risk on Sky again.

i got the 50% off my sky package,i must say its better than i thought it would be even in the rain, the pic quality is crystal clear and box seems so much quicker than my tivo.to be honest ive not watched sky atlantic but have downloaded the box sets im interested in e.g game of thrones, the mrs likes itv encore but most of it is just reapeats e.g downton abby .ok so you carnt record 3 channels ,but thats not needed as catch up is very good,i got my package for £35 pounds with all sports and movies in hd, plus i got a free sky+hd box for the bedroom for just an extra £5 with free install,so at that price it was a no brainer

I'm very surprised they don't have a communal dish? My daughter lives up the Warren and they have a dish and freeview serving the whole block.

If its a Free-to-Air channel (eg. Spike) there is no deal to do, as the channel providersimply rents an EPG slot from Sky at the going rate. Their transaction is directly with SES for the lease of the transponder slot.

Interesting Article I've found, coming soon to Tivo?

"Further, in April, we extended our deal with Virgin Media, and as part of the new agreement, Virgin Media has committed to the development of next-generation solutions from TiVo.

I presume that's because it would cost more to take just one channel than to take a package of channels. So to get the best deal, they wait for the whole package to come up for renewal. This keeps prices down, which is what you want and expect.

The position with Sky is completely different, and this has been explained on numerous occasions before (latest explanation is contained in post #2320).

As far as BT Sport is concerned, if it becomes a pay channel for XL viewers on VM, that will be down to BT Sport and what it is prepared to offer to VM. Some would say that it would be better for BT Sport to be a pay channel as currently non-sports lovers are having to pay for this privilege.

Thanks for highlighting the deal Superblade.

I must admit that every summer I consider Sky on a 50% 12 month deal and run it alongside VM, mainly because of the little price difference between Sky Sports on VM and the whole lot on Sky. In fact the only reason I didn't do it last year was because of the Sky Sports season ticket offer.

We'll see what happens this summer, hopefully VM offer that deal again

Not vm boxes but don't be surprised to see boxes arrive that support all 3 services terrestial, sattelite and cable.
My Samsung tv has a sattelite, cable and ariel connector. I only discovered the cable one last night.

I like the idea of one-box-fits-all :) It will help when changing providers
Just need 4k connectivity, more tuners, bigger hard-drive and cloud storage just in case lol

I think if you add multi-room on as well it narrow considerably - Sky multi room is £11.50 no matter which box type you have but if you don't have Tivo them at £6.50 (?ish) VM is much cheaper. Have a couple of multi-rooms and the savings are soon eaten into. TBH is the Sky Multi-room was in line with Virgin I would move back tomorrow.

The most annoying thing about Sky Mulitrooms is their stupid "Call-back" system...totally outdated along with most of their technology. I'm glad we dont have that trouble with VM.

My sister lives in a tower block and they have a communal dish too but when my sister got sky in she found she kept loosing signal all the time. She was also `conned` by the sky agent who signed her up because the feed to the flats is only a single one and so she could only record from the channels she was watching! Even the guy installing the box told her she could record 2 channels. She got rid of it as soon as she could and went back to virgin

Isn`t Sky`s call back system designed to stop people sharing their sky subscription with a friend or family member?

I live in an apartment block that houses 6 properties. Sky will not install a communal system unless 4 of the apartments agree to sign up. The problem we have is 2 of the apartments are rented on short term 6 month rents and one of the apartments the owners will not have sky so that means i can't have sky. We are not allowed to put dished on the building even though i own my apartment. This means i have no choice but BT or cable

As with all, I have being looking around too. Since nothing is coming to Virgin TV soon:erm:
I started to think how could they address it?
Simple:
Drop the price by 20%
Make Netflix free
Unrestricted upload on the broadband and increase it from my 1.5mb to at least 10mb!

That would match the deal I've been offered from Sky - except for Sky-Atlantic

Ok I only get 40mb download compared to 50Mb on VM but that won't make much difference to me! I don't plan to stream 4K video anytime soon!

I wouldn't go back to SKY, as even with a half price offer their service is still inferior to Virgin. Plus locked into a contract for another 11 months.

On the otherhand i wouldn't go back to vm after the way they treated me when i left sending threatening letters before i even got final bill, then tried to take money twice for final bill, they claim i still owe them £145 but yet they can never seem to send me proof of this debt when i ask lol.
Also my final bill says £103 my bank shows vm have taken £103 twice they refunded the second one as direct debit guarantee covered it but as it stands i have proof they got paid yet they fail to provide proof of this magical debt lol.
This is why you see me sometimes refer to vm as *******s.

To balance that I've had very few issues with Sky , VM on the other hand were a complete nightmare with problems such as broadband going down , oversubscription on both broadband and On Demand in my area , numerous billing issues , terrible offshore customer support.

I guess most people will have different experiences of each provider , area you live etc can also factor in on your experience.

I agree, the area I'm in seems a lot more suited to VM, but family who live a few miles up the road seem to have better success with Sky....It's strange lol

Shocking Service, how about this then!!

My colleague at work had standard broadband from Virgin typically getting 1 to 1.5mb down.

He's receives a letter out the blue, no notice that he had been moved to TalkTalk since VM no longer support standard broadband in his area. Within a couple of weeks TalkTalk sent him a later saying the same and that he was now with supplier X. Can't remember who he said but I'd never heard of them?

In the end you are just a customer they are screwing for profit. And I don't just mean VM but all of them, so I have no loyalties to any of them.

Yes, but it's getting pretty cut throat out there. If VM can't compete on price, they will go under.

As these forums demonstrate, everyone wants a cut price deal, so I guess we get the services we deserve!

In the Sky family package you get access to box sets, for VM to negate this they could offer Netflix for free! VM VOD is awful at the moment and has been for years, who whats to see VOD reality TV shows that are repeated daily on standard channels anyway?

I know I know, why don't you go to Sky. It's on the agenda but by expressing your feels here hopefully VM may become aware of the problems and feelings of the customers:dozey:

Sky have paid gawd knows how much for the rights to these boxsets, i don't think netflix will become free on vm it might be given at a discount say 50% off for vm customers if vm and netflix could agree something but knowing vm there'd be more chance of the moon actually being made of cheese.

Without taking this too far off topic, everyone should have got advance notification from Virgin Media either via letter and / or email before being moved to Talk Talk

BT Showcase are only on Freeview HD.

If you cant get Film4 +1 on Freeview channel 45 you will not get BT Showcase.

Good to hear , at least we aren't going to have to be subjected to the crappy streams they make available via the BBC Sport app.

We do not like the way Virgin Media goes after channels (At end of Broadcasters deals),

But it an good idea The Broadcaster may want £Z per viewer but Virgin Media can say to broadcaster "Here's £X per viewer Take it or leave it".

We think some broadcasters are too big for they boots.

BT Preview and BT Preview HD arrived on SKY about a week ago on channels 457 and 458. All they are showing at the moment is endless BT adverts and promos. I'll assume these will become BT Showcase and BT Showcase HD in the coming months.

We are not allowed to put dished on the building even though i own my apartment. This means i have no choice but BT or cable

It turns out that the blocks of flats I live in has the same restrictions. The people who own apartments have just ignored the company who own the building and have put up dishes anyway. :)

As such, my new landlord is going to let me have Sky and I am going to go against my better judgement and take a risk on sky again for their latest offer. It really is great value, although I wont be getting movies or sports, even at half price I am still reluctant to pay their prices - I simply won't watch enough content to justify it. £18 a month for the family bundle will suit me just fine.

We think it an new broadcasting steam Nat Geo Wild HD is launching on. That why up to 8 V0-- channels are also testing.

But saying that VM did have some technical problems launching channels in the past with the well known ones being The Africa Channel, ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD.

Modern boxes including the YouView boxes have hidden the pay channels on DTT as they were only decipherable by BT Vision boxes. Older Freeview equipment will still show BT Sport 1 until it leaves DTT in June.
9th June sees BT announce the price of its European football channel. http://www.cityam.com/216705/bt-reve...ampions-league

Worth noting the plusnet Youview box is a bt youview box without the silver bottom and bt logo.
Also plusnet tv is powered by bt tv apparantly, it's expected that plusnet tv customers will get bt sport for £5.99p/m or £7.49p/m for hd which is the current price for plusnet customers who want bt sports on the Sky platform, here's a pic of my plusnet tv box

I garned some news last night at a function that some people might find interesting, but i've given up on posting information as it doesn't seem to be appreciated.

The reasons being that I object to the snide remarks that I am a "Walter Mitty" character who "pretends to have insider information and knowledge".

The adults who go to the trouble of sharing knowledge don't expect to be revered, but they don't expect to be spoken to like that either. I've seen this situation happen before on varios fora, where people have been insulted to the point of keeping silent, so I am at a total loss as to what he hoped to achieve.
