Something I've mentioned in the past but I've got an example this time.

When you look on YouTube for a fix, answer or solution to something, you find what you're looking for however the person narrating or featuring in the clip wastes time with pretty much useless waffle and background about what the problem is, often including a quick demonstration.

if you're on Youtube looking for a solution and you manage to find it then I'd say the chances are you know what the problem is.

I was looking for a way to change the default search in Edge and I came across this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuDBOL42W7g

Obviously good on the guy for offering help but he wastes the first minute telling us what we already know. So you're there needing to skip through the waffle to just get to the answer. In that clip it's just a minute but a lot of the time it's a longer clip and the waffle takes equally longer to get to.

I understand that some of the time people like to demonstrate how knowledgeable they are and therefore need to explain that they understand the problem and didn't just stumble on it etc but I'd say most of us are just looking for (and would appreciate) a simple and straight-to-the-point answer.

Most of the time it is far easier and quicker to just type what you want to know in Google for something like that which gives you the answer in seconds.

As others have said, the main thing is she's OK. :tu:

Repairing ceilings neatly isn't easy so, depending on where the damage is, it might be wise to get a professional in and avoid an annoying eyesore, even if you patch the hole (which isn't hard) and they just finish the job.

Can someone explain this to me please?

Cooked 4 pieces of chicken tonight, all the same size, same cooking tray, same time, same everything. My gran's chicken was cooked to perfection, yet my 2 pieces of chicken were still raw at one end on each fillet. Doesn't make sense. Had to leave what amounted to half a chicken breast fillet.

Sometimes when you put them into a grill or oven you need to move the tray around as sometimes there is not a even distribution of heat in some ovens or grills Mark.

Yes, I told my mum and she said I should have rotated the tray around.

IIRC TUPE means if you company is taken over the new bosses cannot change your original contract if it makes it worse.

But having written a book on being made redundant I will say don't worry about something thats beyond your control, just don't spend money on anything thats not really needed.

Thanks we are now looking at it at least he will have a job if it does happen although naturally we are hoping it won't. Good advice on the money spending we have worked out that we could save about 300 a month by doing simple things like lowing the TV package, getting rid of one of the car's and selling hubby's beloved motorcycle.

Mr Dr's surgery:mad:

I got my x-ray results all clear, my blood test said my cholesterol is high, but nothing about the cough.

So I try and book an appointment, but oh no, you have to phone in on the day and book at 8am, I have phoned and got through at 8:01am and been told no booking left for the day.

So the Dr has to call me, before I can even consider getting an appointment .

Our Dr has a sit and wait surgery 08-11 mon/fri, phones answered @08.30.

Yes horrible but it might not necessarily be sufficient reason for them to avoid any liability whatsoever. Of course it may well be that she'll need to take it up with the ombudsman and might have to settle for some form of reduced payment if the worst comes to the worst, which it may well not. Fingers crossed eh? :tu:

If her policy has just rolled over from year to year then I could understand the insurers refusing to pay out if she had failed to update any medical conditions but surely they already held her date of birth so the fact that she is now 70 shouldn't be classed as an undeclared change of circumstances.

I just hope that she can get home soon, all the worry can't be helping.

Hope your sore throat is better now, Weenie, My friends sister maybe home on Monday by air ambulance, she had a form of cancer years ago and it has come back in her lung, Her insurance had stopped in June as she was 70'. Not sure if she had confermation about it and she forgot, or if she never read the small print, but it is costing over £20'000' or more and she has to pay, , I am sure the family will help her out if she is low on funds. Because whilst it would be a normal cold for others, for me a sore throat 9.9 times out of 10 develops into tonsilitis. Settled down so didn't bother going.

Virgin Media Line Rental Saver, why do I always have difficulty getting it applied each year? Got the letter this year and it said phone this number . So I did and the money was painlessly extracted. Did it get applied, of course it didn't. Used online chat and told to use quickpay to pay this months bill and then to phone billing. All that worked perfectly and we shall see if the next bill is correct.

A mew study shows that some people drink too much.
some people eat too much.
some people smoke.
some people drive to work instead of walking.

and some people give a fig that some people do the same old boring studies.

First Great Western and their lousy train timekeeping. Late into Westbury today just in time to see my connection disappearing over the horizon and leaving me and a dozen other frustrated passengers having to try and make new connections.

Got back to good old Worthing 1 & 1/2 hours late and then the ticket barrier refused the ticket. At least a friendly local staff member waved me through. :tu: Southern Region.

Sadly they night have changed their name to the Great Western Railway but delays still remain the case for a large part of their network as we have experienced many times our self.

No problem, just go to your local timber yard and ask for the rain damaged stock... :D

================================================== =

Staples - long, short, thick, thin I hate them! all!!!

I've been trying to reclaim the hardwood from our old sofas which I broke up months ago because it was far too expensive to have them recovered and we were able to buy 2 x 4 seater leather sofas for not much more.

No wonder the old ones lasted so well (over 25 years) with no creaks or wobbles - I've never seen anything like it, there were literally thousands of the damned things, each of which needed to be removed. Scrapes, puncture wounds, bruises, blisters etc., you name it I suffered it. The latest injury from last week involved the sharp end of a fabric staple puncturing my right index finger between the outside edge of the nail and the skin. My God has it been painful!! It's not infected but it's agony whenever I knock it, which is quite frequently it turns out. I've got it covered with some plasters and cotton wool for cushioning but it's a right PITA and still causing me grief over a week later. Was the wood worth the time and pain?? Jury's out... :erm:

;) I used screws and plugs for an extra bit of grip into the wall and caulked into the voids, looks fine.

Must be quite irritating, I ask them to leave information in Braille and they tend to shuffle a bit then leave me alone!

Relationships. Can someone explain why if I take longer than 10 minutes to reply to a text then I am inconsiderate and all other names under the Sun for men but it is OK for them to go nearly 2 weeks without texting me? I am so confused with the double standards on display here.

You are better without them l would say then Mark as a good fair relationship requires give and take on both sides in my book.

Yes I came to that conclusion myself over the weekend den, sent them a message saying we needed to talk urgently. See how long before she bothers to reply. If no answer by weekend then I will just ignore any messages from her after that.

A relationship IMO should not be hard work Mark especially if it's early day's. Den is quite right it's all about some give and take.

Broad band has just gone down. Started getting flakey then stopped. Pings failed. Tried re-booting SH but it's stuck with one steady green and one flashing green ( Unable to acquire down stream(s))

Running on my backup 3G dongle at the moment.

There was a guy in a VM van at the box for a while so I guess they're chasing round to find the fault.

Of course it could all be the prelude to a raid by the security services... :erm:

You mean that GCHQ are sucking up so much of our data that VM's network is collapsing under the strain. :D

BTW take a look at my BB monitor in the VM internet service sub forum. Rubbish!
