Netflix as part of XL would be a massive coup for Virgin Media. Such a good alternative to SKY Movies.

I'm a convert, Netflix is the future!!!

Netflix technology knocks spots off the traditional pay TV providers , its available on so many devices around your house its truly flexible with content bookmarking allowing you to continue were you left off on a previous device. The technology is continually evolving with new features all the time such as my list , profiles etc.

If adding Netflix and Lovefilm to a pay TV providers STB is such a good idea I wonder why nobody has done it to date ?

its because Sky are afraid of the competitiion, thus buying roku out. Virgin has said it would love it but netfiix but ive got a feeling were still running old software especially when tivo america is on version 20.2.1.1 and running dual cores - wait isn't ours still disabled?

I'd say reacting to the competition , they didn't buy Roku out they made an investment in it. Now TV is a great idea however sadly at the moment its too expensive and the technology behind it pales into insignificance when compared to Netflix that said its an evolving product and I'm sure the tech and pricing will improve.

I still think there's an element of risk for a pay TV provider adding Netflix to its platform sure the sports fans will stay loyal to traditional pay TV however there's many others who could trial the likes of Lovefilm/Netflix on the pay TV STB and decide it offers them enough when combined with freeview.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.

Are Sky boxes capable of streaming Netflix? Isn't this why they have progressive download on demand?

I think for VM, Netflix is a sensible investment and would eventually stop them needing to pay out for their own on demand library and stick with catch up only. I'm sure the current non catch up on demand comes out of what's left after channels have been paid so it could easily be better to allow Netflix to become the On Demand broker. Obviously this wouldn't work for legacy boxes

The Tivo software that VM Tivo runs on is based on the Premier and that has a Netflix app, so I see no reason why it couldn't be added to VM Tivo.

A new Netflix player was added to Tivo in May 2012, and assuming VM eventually add the new HD menu screens to Tivo in the next update, I don't see why that new Tivo Netflix app couldn't also be added if VM plan to add Netflix.

So will September match August for excitement levels and new channels?

Some Sky HD upgrades and more maybe. SSN HD would be nice.

Have to say it's been doing my head in watch US Open on SS3 in SD glad for Eurosport HD and most of Week 2 being scheduled for SS1.

What a crock up to 24 hours before me card recognises me box so I can watch anything, now where is that TiVo remote :)
Just checking out sky on demand on sky go very disappointing no game of thrones only got from ep 4 of ray Donovan hope that's just sky go and not demand on box (when that eventually works)

I don't know if its been mentioned but there as been adverts running all day on film 4 stating that film 4 HD is launching tomorrow on SKY platform.

Is this another piece of the sky and VM getting closer situation ??

That's down to rights I'm afraid and the same on all platforms , the episodes are only allowed to remain available for so many weeks , as you move further through the series at linear speed the earlier episodes get removed , there's then a set time frame before series can be offered as full boxsets. Ray Donovan is only available on the STB from Episode 4 also.

Been a nightmare you sky boys finally got channels on after 2 phone calls and live chat, now got to wait or a tech to come out as the engineer never wired it up to the phone line,I had a lead at home but it didnt work so 13 th sept.got say having a quick luck very disappointed with on demand no sopranos,no banshee,no newsroom the lists goes on.speed wise faster than the TiVo but tech wise TiVo beats it hands down.
I'm downloading from on demand ray Donovan and pressing keep do any of your sky boys know if I do that do they stay on till I delete[COLOR="Silver"]

Well I'm not a sport fan and I never watch the sports channels but even I think the best ever launch so far this last year must have been BT Sports/ESPN. It's a no-brainer really.

However, the launch of Sky Atlantic shortly will change all that!

Just received my last offer to come back to Virgin Media. As a Virgin mobile customer they are offering a free V+HD box, with no monthly subscription free, rather than the bog standard V HD box as my second box.

My contract with SKY is up in December. What happens in the next 90 days will determine who I get my TV from in January.

Hardly anyone out there has a set capable of displaying it , and I'm pretty sure it would require a new STB

But you are forgetting that relations between Sky and Virgin are very much in the entente cordiale mode now as there is a new kid on the block and it is very much in Sky's interest to make their content readily available to companies other then BT in order to neuter their affect plus remember Sky and Virgin have already done a deal in the last few months which in my mind is a prelude to other deals being completed.

Wow, just wow. I sure hope this stuff does really come! Seems the power of Liberty Global is pretty damn strong, this would NEVER have happened under the old guard. Sure the deal is not done, but the BT Sports deal has convinced me that they have the negotiation skills necessary to get it done.

I also think that this will end up crushing BT, which is what I think Sky are trying to attempt as they will not get the same deal!

The words I was told weeks ago was bigger company, with a lot more clout where negotiations are concerned and that was said to me by someone at the ceo's and I can confirm that's channels on mb list(apart from universal hd:(and the CNN ones) are what i was told was planned along with bt sports of course(hence me knowing it was coming ;))like mb has stated rumours but its clear now that vm are defo targeting these channels

Do any of the above have an estimate time of arrival I.e. next couple of weeks.

I think some have more chance than others on the list but if they do arrive I will join the ranks of impressive gratitude to the new owners or should that be for sky who appear to be softening their stance or BT to force their hand?

I have to agree , Sky Sports News HD looks excellent and its a channel I can see arriving on VM owing to the fact UPC Ireland carry it.

I know Sky like their USP but they also need a challenge. Business' collapse when they rule the roost because they don't have anyone in their way.

If Sky and VM had the same channels it would be better for the consumer and would allow Sky to challenge VM in other areas like Broadband, Phone, Companion facilities.

If said 18 channels do arrive, is anyone else wondering where this money has been found?

Did Berkett keep it in his desk drawer in case of emergencys and Mockridge has just stumbled upon it?

Or Virgin are just moving some of the money they use to pay bank loans to get more channels?

Ouch. I thought prices went up this year already back in February.

I'm not sure if I believe this at all. Seems like nothing more than crude maths by someone trying to wind up Virgin Media customers.

Various articles reported Virgin have 2 million XL customers with Virgin paying BT £75 million per year for BT Sports. 2 million XL customers x £3 per month = £6 million x 12 months = £72 million. Essentially someone is trying to make out that Virgin customers are footing the bill for BT Sports being added.

Let's wait and see if a price increase actually happens. I can't see it.

I'm really not sure MB but half the questions seems to be missing, there is a "best channel launch of February (part3)" with just YouTube on it, how's the voting working?

Indeed, I would have thought that they would want to arrange carriage on all platforms. It's just strange that there hasn't been a press release, when it is obvious that the channel will launch at some point. The licence has been issued by Ofcom and the placeholder caption has been added to Freeview.

I've read the rumours on other web sites about TUTV closing in November, it is just speculation at present as TUTV hasn't indicated that it will actually be closing at all. In any event, that announcement would be commercially sensitive. If the channel doesn't intend to launch until November, it's a little early to have added the caption.

Whether TUTV closes or not, I wouldn't think that BT Sport plans to run the promo loop on Freeview indefinitely. As soon as the promo loop disappears, the space will become available to Channel 5. That's the unknown factor at the moment, how long BT Sport has contracted to use the promo slot.

I'm sure he is getting confused with the SS Price Rise next month, Virgin know they can't rise prices anymore.

However if all the channels included on MBs list arrive I won't be too bothered. If none of them come, ill refuse to pay as I don't particularly want BT Sports!

-Sky HQ Test (Sky News HD?)
-An unknown test broadcast BT Sports 2 (Maybe HISTORY HD)
-An unknown test broadcast nothing (Maybe MGM HD or CI HD or Nat Geo Wild HD?)*
-Disney HD

*Due to FOX + set to launch I am now working with Nat Geo Wild HD may launch and not CI HD or MGM HD.

I have a feeling History HD and CI HD will launch along with Lifestyle (is it called that?) when it launches. I have a feeling they will scrap Bio for it and launch a HD version.
