The October update is now rolling out to preview members, this update is said to include DLNA and MKV support on a network!!!
Currently installing it i hope DLNA works perfectly and smoothly without judder. http://news.xbox.com/2014/09/xbox-on...ctober-preview ---------- Post added at 17:17 ---------- Previous post was at 16:39 ---------- After installing the update the Mediaplayer Preview app automatically found my Mybook World Twonkymedia server. Currently testing Xvid streaming via wireless and they seem to play pretty well. Will test some MKV and MP4 soon. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I have the update and can confirm DLNA is working. Some MKV's work and some dont.
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I am a novice at this but i can report MKV currently does not play for me, maybe it is a DTS sound issue that is the problem as i converted an MKV container to MP4 making the sound AAC and it plays without issue, does anyone with knowledge in media formats have an idea if it is the sound causing my issue? :)
---------- Post added at 19:18 ---------- Previous post was at 17:41 ---------- Done some more testing, MKV play fine with either AC3 or AAC audio. |

I have been enjoying testing the Mediaplayer app with MKV, and i am finding it plays MKV 1080p perfectly and smoothly as long as the audio is AC3 or AAC, this is now changing how i get my movies as before i never touched MKV and used Xvid all the time, so much easier to get hold of too. :) |

Yup. EA Access gives you early access 5 days before release, and lets you play the full game for 6 hours in that time.
The full digital preload itself will unlock at 12:01am on the release day - with or without EA Access. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Cool, I installed it ready to go last night, so I won't have to do it on release day :)
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Been playing Destiny all day, and was streaming it so that I could put some footage up on Youtube only to find, that I forgot to turn the sound off on my phone which I was using to monitor the chat for Twitch incase, I got anyone actually watching the stream.
So 6 hours worth of footage cannot be used thanks to it having my voice in the background repeating what I had, just said a few seconds earlier. Not happy with the quality of the videos though, but until I get a 2nd monitor and some capture card for my pc I will just have to use Twitch for recording gameplay videos. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Hows everyone in the preview program getting on streaming MKV media to their Xbox One? It is so good for me i don't bother with Xvids anymore.
The no DTS support isnt an issue for me as i listen through my TV speakers so i just remux the audio to be able to play it. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Not in the preview program but I use my smart tv for streaming the streaming with Serviio running on the pc.
The only file my tv won't play up to now is anything in the .avi file type so I have to convert those files to either .WMA or .MKV and then they play fine. Went on Destiny this morning, and streamed it to Twitch then downloaded the video and converted it and put it on Youtube and the quality isn't as bad as I first thought, it was going to be although it is lower than I would like it to be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eXRC28KM78 Going to carry on and will also try some other games when I get round to putting Destiny down but the game, is just to interesting to put down at the moment. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread

I've tested it, but I find it easier to just stream straight to my Smart TV. I also found that it doesn't work with PS3 Media Server or Universal Media Server - although that's the fault of PMS/UMS, as the Xbox One will happily stream from my wife's NAS. |

Re: The Xbox One Thread
It's very repetitive but you know what I don't care, it's the kind of repetitive that I enjoy. It's basically a load of mini missions - either solo ones or fireteam (3 people ones). With a bit of freeroam/missions and PVP thrown in for good measure. The mission level scales with your level so as you get a higher level, the missions get harder.
I mean I play Fifa a lot - that's pretty repetitive too isn't it? If you see me in game and want to team up - feel free to invite me. |

PLEX for Xbox One is due to be released tomorrow 7th October, even though the regular Media player plays everything i throw at it now it will be nice to use PLEX with its GUI front end, hopefully there won't be any restrictions to media formats or resolutions and sound formats, i expect them to be the same as the current mediaplayer.

Re: The Xbox One Thread
I'm getting really tempted to get the Xbox one with Forza 5, I've been speaking with a few of my online friends who say it's pretty awesome, and being a huge fan even now of Forza 4 I'm really tempted.
Can I ask, and apologies as I've not read the entire thread, if any of you fps gamers out there have noticed a reduction in how the console deals with lag, as I also fancy the new Advance Warfare. Network related issues aside does the Xbox one offer a more balanced game. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
The only network issues I suffered with any FPS games were with Battlefield 4, and that was down to it being *broken* at launch.
A stream of updates from EA DICE have since apparently finally fixed BF4's issues on each platform, but I'd long since abandoned it for Titanfall by then. |

Re: The Xbox One Thread
Not had any lag which was related to the servers on games until yesterday, which was on Destiny to the point that it was pretty much not playable.
Had plenty of lag caused by frames being dropped due to the low end hardware in the consoles, struggling to do games at more than 720p 30fps or 60fps. Honestly I cannot see these consoles lasting more than 3 years before new ones are out. |

Re: The Xbox One Thread

Destiny doesn't really suffer but I have noticed it once, but only once and that was after I had been on Destiny for 8 hours solid. The issue that Microsoft and Sony have is that they went with AMD for both the CPU and GPU and, when you look at what these systems are expected to do then the components chosen when combined won't do it. The consoles have a 8 core cpu and a single graphics card and 8Gb of shared ram when it should have been 4Gb system ram and 6Gb dedicated Vram, and with both the CPU and GPU being low end stuff they struggle like crazy which is why most games coming out are 900p 60fps, because they just cannot get them to 1080p 60fps and that is on both consoles. The CPU would have been a good choice had they gone for a decent graphics chip, but as they went with AMD for the graphics they were instantly never going to hit the 1080p 60fps performance that they wanted, because the last gen AMD cards that could do that performance were to hot and pricey, and the same with the current gen. Nvidia were not really any better but if they had got the money from the consoles, then Maxwell could have been brought out sooner and all games would be running, at 1080p 60fps easily and then the consoles would last longer than the 3 years I predict before there are new consoles coming out. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I didn't think that the hardware was low end at all. Remember these are games consoles, not gaming PCs. No need for crazy amounts of RAM.
Most consoles go for many years and tend not to be at their strongest till after a few years. When the programmers have worked out how to best utilise the systems. Give it another year and all games will probably be 1080p without any problems. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I hope this thread doesn't turn into a specs of console discussion, it has been fine until now.

Looks like Im getting an xbox one (woohoo) :)
Ive got some turtle beach wireless headphones on my 360 currently, that uses the optical out of the 360 into the transmitter part, am I right in assuming they should still work on the xbox one as long as I use the optical out on the xbox one. Ive read you need a special converter for game chat that are about 19 quid. Only bummer is I will have to wait till xmas before I can play (wifes orders, sad face) |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Yeah. So long as it's compatible (best check!) you'd just plug the headphones into the Xbox One's optical audio output, and then use the stereo headset adapter for chat:

Re: The Xbox One Thread
I think the latest preview firmware is a bit dodgy, twice in the last 2 days i have turned on the Xbox and it has presented me with a really dark TV picture that looked like the backlight had gone on the TV, luckily turning the Xbox off and on again has cured it.
Anyone else seen this? |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Not sure if it's related to the newest preview or not but a couple of days I couldn't get back to Home. I kept pressing the button but nothing happened.
