Well I watched all three of those shows. Actually Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was the only one I watched right to the end.

Suffice it to say I have deleted the series links for all of them. :(

The software will be rolled out in stages , its certainly a breath of fresh air when compared to its previous incarnation. The press releases don't seem to mention another nice feature what's included in the update. ;)

I'll need to see if I've been updated. From 9:30pm onwards last night I couldn't access on demand at all. In fact the option to access on demand was completely removed from my SKY+ box. I forgot to check this morning to see if everything was back in order.

It seems more an issue of Shine America co producing 'The Bridge' and Kudos Film part of The Shine Group producing 'The Tunnel' in the UK possibly contractual , of course Shine Group is now owned by 21st Century Fox and the founder and current CEO of Shine Group is Rupert Murdoch's daughter Elisabeth Murdoch.

With the availability of the new connected search , iPad companion app , catch up , Sky Store and TV Box sets it would appear the number connecting there box is rising quickly. Sky have today reported that by the end of September 13 it had over 3.3 million people with connected STB's with 642,000 connecting during the last quarter , it also saw a fourfold increase in On Demand useage.

That was always going to happen ,most analysts expected it , I wouldn't be surprised to see hotly contested bidding for the champions league also. BT Sport was meant to impact Sky on its BB additions however they were up like most of its other metrics.

There is also still a huge amount of opportunity too -

Triple-play subscribers, meaning people who take three products from BSkyB, now account for 36 percent of the firm's total customer base, according to the company.

I agree 100 % , the market has never been more competitive meaning more and more firms are looking to sell their existing customer base more products as you say 36 % means there's plenty of growth left in trying to sell your existing base more. Sky Go extra was also pretty impressive gaining 219,000 this last quarter taking it too 385,000 with around 3.3 million Sky Go users there's also plenty potential to upsell with this product. The 37,000 quarterly TV adds includes Now TV also so traditional TV adds are pretty much flat in my opinion.

Chad 25-10-2013 16:17

Re: General Sky TV Discussion

SKY could have put a delayed version on the red button. By the time those watching the first half on 15 mins delay reached half time, they would be just in time to watch the second half go out live.

I'm not saying that simply missing the first 15 mins is right or wrong, I would have liked a choice.

Re: General Sky TV Discussion

ye that would have been a nice option and would be covering all angles. That said half time will probably cover most of the first 15mins.

BSkyB's football rights battle with BT is pushing it in new direction.

Quote:

Compared to the £900m BT paid to take Champions League rights away from BSkyB, the satellite broadcaster's $8m (£5m) investment last week in Luminari Capital, a venture-capital fund which focuses on US technology and media startup companies centred on video, is small beer.
But it suggests that Sky, a business built on outbidding the competition for TV sports rights, is quietly looking in new directions.
BSkyB said the investment will "increase its exposure to relevant startup companies that it may choose to partner with in the future". In short, BSkyB realises that it will have to play the long game and diversify beyond bidding for ballooning football rights if it is to emerge a winner in the TV/web convergence race.

And I'm sure at some point they will , 5.1 audio is already down as 'Under Consideration' on the Now TV community so I'm pretty sure at some stage we'll see it likewise I'm sure they'll be looking to improve picture quality.

I find PQ pretty good if I'm honest on my Now TV devices not as good as Netflix but perfectly acceptable the only device I've been dissapointed with using Now TV on is YouView as they only provide SD.

Remember video killed the radio star? Well the internet killed the video shop.

As a consumer times haven't been better. Most of us live in homes where we can get some of the latest movie releases piped straight to our TV at the touch of a button, at a cheaper rate than it would be to rent from a video rental store.

Sadly it has had a terrible effect on some local businesses. My local video store, which opened in 1980, shut up shot for good about 2 years ago. They tried to move with the times, renting DVD's, Blu-ray and console games but they simply couldn't compete. The same guy ran the store for just over 30 years. I remember back in the 80's, when times where good, he had a really nice house and drove a flash car. The guy had a year round tan from going on holiday all the time. I saw him last week coming out of the betting shop looking like a tramp.

I'm pretty sure HBO did something similar with Season 3 of Girls , they put the first couple of episodes on YouTube after they'd aired.

ITV to launch pay-TV drama channel on Sky

Quote:

ITV is to launch a pay-TV channel on Sky showcasing the "best of British drama", its first major return to pay-TV since the collapse of ITV Digital more than a decade ago.
The channel, ITV Encore, will be a home to some of the broadcaster's recent successful dramas, such as Vera and Lucan.
From next year ITV will also populate the channel with original commissions.
The move is chief executive Adam Crozier's biggest to date in a strategy to diversify the broadcaster's revenues away from an overwhelming dependence on free-to-air advertising.

BSkyB profits hit by cost of Premier League deal

http://www.theguardian.com/media/201...er-league-deal

Darroch also addressed the issue of bidding for the next three-year Premier League TV rights deal, which is expected to kick off later this year.

BSkyB was forced to pay £2.3bn to stop BT from securing the lion's share of matches in the existing deal, a 40% increase, and with further inflation a certainty in the next auction Darroch warned that there is a limit to how much rights are worth.

Sky and HBO Expand Partnership with Original Drama Commitment and Extended Output Deal

BSkyB (Sky) and Home Box Office (HBO) are to co-develop and produce new, original drama as part of an expanded partnership between the two companies. The collaboration includes an extended content output deal to ensure that Sky Atlantic remains the exclusive home of first-run HBO programmes in Britain and Ireland through 2020.
Quote:

Under the new agreement, Sky and HBO will work together to develop and produce spectacular new drama series for broadcast on their networks in the UK, Ireland and the US. Their goal is to identify projects with the potential to run for multiple seasons and to commission these shows, with production to be jointly funded by the two companies.

Also included in the deal.

They have also agreed a new long-term carriage deal for BBC services and the iPlayer on-demand service on Sky's satellite platform.

We may finally see the iPlayer listings now in the On Demand section allowing us to remote download BBC On Demand content.

A better relationship between the two should prove better for BBC watchers in Sky homes at last.

"Alongside this, both parties have reached an agreement that secures the long-term availability of BBC channels and BBC iPlayer on the Sky platform. We will also continue to discuss opportunities that offer Sky customers new and innovative ways to discover and consume BBC content."

Found the article interesting, especially the part about ITV:

"ITV will also benefit, saving around £2m a year after reaching an agreement with Sky last month to drop the fee as part of carriage negotiations for its pay-TV drama channel ITV Encore."

Now I can see why Encore will be exclusive on the SKY platform.

You would think Channel 4 and 5 would be also interested in some kind of an agreement to take their charges to zero , I suppose with the latter that's a question for whoever the successful bidder of Channel 5 is. I notice the UFC event in London is to be televised and available on Channel 5 , don't BT Sports hold the rights to UFC ? Am I reading to much into that ?

It is an interesting point. For some reason, and somewhat out of the blue, Channel 5 have decided to ramp up their coverage of live fight action. They are showing boxing live tonight, UFC next week followed by more live boxing on the 15th and 22nd of March. 4 Saturday nights on the trot is unheard of for them.

The whole UFC show is live on BT Sport from start to finish. Channel 5 are just showing the main event live followed by highlights. Maybe we are getting a taste of what Channel 5 could be like if BT bought them out?

A bit misleading headline.

Sky has first choice, chooses games they want. What else would they do?

Basically the paper is saying
"Hey everyone, we think you are stupid, so we write a headline to sell newspapers doh"

Just found this:

"A trio of US cable network owners have entered the race to buy Channel 5, the UK television broadcaster owned by media baron Richard Desmond. Viacom, Discovery Communications and Scripps Networks all put forward bids for the company on Thursday."
