And yes, I know that sporting events should be watched live, and I completely agree. However, I would still watch on a small delay, just so I could FF through an un-interesting bit if I wanted to :)

I've just picked the keys to the DeLorean up set the reminder for tonight's football , now back to pre 2002 :D

OK, looking forward to TiVo install tomorrow, but still annoyed about the fact that they told me on the phone I might get to keep my V+ without the £6.50 multiroom charge, then couldn't confirm it, then told me I would only get it if I was phoned by them as a surprise. Are any of the VM staff contributors here in a position to a) calm me down and tell me I just wasn't selected, bad luck, or b) tell me if I am able to get included in the offer before the engineer arrives tomorrow?

Cheers Fixerman.

Had a bit of a play with TIVO, been out today. Set up all my series records didn't take long to suss out how. I feel liberated now, can set up as many records as I like without worrying about clashes and hard drive room :)

Picture quality, can't tell diff between V+ and TIVO. I actually like the independant padding options for each series record you set up although a glodal one would be nice as mine are all virtually the same.

Was told by VM my BB would be upgraded today from 2-10meg to 20meg but my Local area network status is telling me I'm getting 100.00 Mbps. Maybe I'm reading it wrong!

TIVO gets a thumbs up so far but give it a few days yet.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Having lived with Tivo for 3 days now I thought a post was due.
Absolutely loving it. I spent the first day going through the epg thumbing up and down and doing wishlists and its already recorded some great shows id have missed otherwise. PQ is similar to my Sammy V+, no more lipsynch issues or sound drop out either. Love the boop boops too :p:
I too like others have the problem with catch up from the backwards epg, it just takes me to the menu to search for it.
Overall im well impressed, sure it may have a niggle or two at the moment but I can live with an odd niggle as its just a great bit of kit ;)

I tried setting a recording through the internet but it failed as for some reason it seemed to be trying to set channel zero?

Update - TiVo Helpdesk said this was a forthcoming enhancement - Channel zero isn't loaded yet.

just had mine installed today, looks good at the mo. SD picture is no way as good as samsung V+, and It'll take time to get used to. Typing in is a pain, hope a future update allows you to use number keys like a V+ or a mobile. My wife loves playlists on Music On-demand, can you skip tracks like you could with previous virgin boxes? (press 3 and so on) but otherwise I feel like we have the future here today as TV viewing goes. In a years time it'll be the bees knees!

And how is a reminder going to? At least if you set a recording you know it's going to be there when you do finally remember you want to watch it.

If all a reminder does is change the channel for you, how is that any help?

A fair point; but if you don't remember something's on when you've set a reminder then you've completely missed it anyway haven't you?

There's no difference between setting a reminder for something and setting it to record except that, with the latter, you don't miss the programme if you forget you set a reminder ;)

I agree. But common courtesy dictates that you don't call someone's opposing POV "utter nonsense" just because you disagree with it.

Yes, but that was only used when I was not in to watch stuff because you could only watch something after it had been completely recorded.

l would describe you as very touchy l am afraid but if l upset you l do apologise.

In addition to new deployments it is hoped the TiVo software will be downloaded into a part of the existing installed base. “The current V+ HD, ie non-DVR boxes that we are sourcing from Cisco, are compatible with TiVo, so we could drop TiVo onto those, but the Samsung DVRs are not, so we would probably launch DVRs that we would source from Cisco initially and they would be new to requirements,” said Berkett.

Saw a film on sky movies I wanted to record that was nearly over, and as it's sky movies I knew it'd be on again, so wanted to go to the info page to find a future showing to record, but you don't seem to be able to do it? Info does nothing, and ok switches to the channel. Had to manually find the late night showing which kinda defeats the purpose of having tivo!

I had this issue to, seems if a show has not started you can find future airings but once it is on you can't.

Also is it me or can you not tell what time a recording started and finished only how long it is?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Hi BenMcr,

Confused - two new contracts in two days.

I'm currently on VIP50 with a second SD box. Upgrade to Tivo, keeping the existing V+ box, transferring premium Hd channels to Tivo, and getting rid of the SD box.

Dated 12th April I get the first new contract with a start date in line with my TIVO install, stating a Service Charge as follows:-

Phone: Line rental, Talk International 2, Talk Mobile 2, Talk Unlimited Digi PKG-Telco, Fully Itemised Billing
Broadband: Wireless Broadband, XXL 50mb Broadband
TV: Vip Bundle Saving, TV Size XL, 0001 Additional V Box, V+HD Box, Tivo Monthly Fee, E Bill Discount
Premium TV: Movies4, Movies4, Movies5, Movies5, Sports1, Sports1, Sports2, Sports2, Skypremhd

All coming to a total of £103.55.

I thought it should be £100.05 so why 3 pounds more?

Then dated 14th April I get another contract with same start date stating a Service Charge as follows:-

Phone: Line rental, Talk International 2, Talk Mobile 2, Talk Unlimited Digi PKG-Telco, Fully Itemised Billing
Broadband: XXL 50mb Broadband
TV: Ing with Tivo Bundle Saving, TV Size XL, 0001 Additional V Box, V+HD Box, Tivo Monthly Fee
Premium TV: Movies4, Movies4, Movies5, Movies5, Sports1, Sports1, Sports2, Sports2, Skypremhd

With a total charge of £51.55.

Athough this sounds like a very good deal surely its not right? How has this total been reached?

What is "Ing With Tivo Bundle"?

Do I need to call a department to get this sorted, if so which one? and what should the correct amount be?

Thanks.

This is a major fault which seems to have come about recently. I have been trying to ascertain the full extent by asking new installs to check their TiVo. VM are remaining very quiet and to my knowledge have not issued any statement. If you call 151, which I suggest you do, you will be told there is a problem and they are working on it.

TBH, I'm not going to check until I've had Tivo a good few days (installed today). Some people have said it works if they've had Tivo a week and I've also read that it can take up to 3 days to download the full 21 day EPG, so testing before that has happened may possibly bring false results?

It's fortunate for me that I only use catchup on very rare occasions, so not having it working as it should isn't a big issue, though if there is a fault, it obviously should be fixed.

Had mine installed yesterday and havent had a problem with this, when you scroll back when you click on the litle c,it will give you an option to go to catch up tv,or to explore the show,if you want to watch that particular programme by selecting explore this show you can then watch that programme. It is only showing catch up shows on the backwards epg from install bot after seven days you should be able to go back the full seven days.

I agree with your reasoning and I personally won't become overly concerned until after 7 days (my install was yesterday). Has any one had a box that worked from the off? FYI mine only takes me to the catch up menu at the moment.

I do have a problem however with logging in to my youtube account. No problem on my computer, but I get the message that it doesn't recognise my login. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix/workaround?

Thanks John, you were quicker than me, however I think you should be able to start the show without having to navigate another menu. Your method has made it easier for me though, so thanks.

I had to do a bit of colour adjusting on both TV's once the TiVo's were installed. I didn't blame that on TiVo though, just the fact it was a new source. Same as watching TV through the DVD player instead of the TiVo or V+ - different settings for each source.

Make sure the scart cable for the DVD recorder is in the correct scart slot on the V+. I've done it backwards myself before - hopefully it's something as simple as that.

I think this is a major problem on this site.
If you went onto another site would you search
over 2000 threads for an answer?
You check the first couple of pages, get bored
and move on.
I now have my TiVo and have read most of the
posts on this thread but the chances of me
looking back for something is zero.
It would take hours.
I recall a few weeks back someone started a valid
Tivo thread and was told it should be here, lost forever?
Just my opinion.
I have few posts but been here lurking a long time.

I did call the Support line (and was put through to TiVo support) but she implied that no-one was able set recordings remotely yet.

I'll log a ticket on Virginmedia community unless anyone here has any suggestions.

Edit
Now when I try via the web I get a message "Sorry there's been a technical glitch and you won't be able to record this programme"

Well the picture looks the same in sd as it did on the V+ so i think people saying about the picture being slightly softer i would suggest just change the settings on your tv and see if that makes a difference.

the slightly annoying thing about remote record (working from PC but not mobile for me) is that without global padding, I can't set a pad, so if I'm on holiday and want to record something I know will probably run over, I'm out of luck.

A global padding feature would stop this. When can I expect this? ;)

---------- Post added at 09:39 ---------- Previous post was at 09:34 ----------

another quick question.

Has anyone managed to program their Tivo remote to turn off the TV?

I was told I could hold down off and it would turn both off.

I've got a 42 inch toshiba VX series LCD. Anyone else had issues?

The remote does work for volume and mute.

Cheers

There is a seperate thread on this now, but have tried colours and options and just have to say the picture in SD and HD is not as crystal clear sharp as I had before, still investigating if anything can be done at TV end though.

Do you get access to the online listing once you get your Tivo installed. I am looking everywhere for it, but can't find it. Tivo installed tomorrow.

65,000 pre-reg according to this...

http://www.whathifi.com/news/virgin-...r-numbers-fall

" the number of new customers signing up to Virgin Media's TV service fell by more than 70% year-on-year – to just 10,100."

interesting...I wonder if they'll make any good retention deals when I ring to cancel :D

Which TiVo problems?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Tivo niggles yes, but overall impression is that it is a very impressive box

The article is referring to new customer growth not churn (cannot access directly as at work so apologies if there is other text I don't know about). It is a lower figure than I would expect but Tivo is a much greater incentive to go with VM for control of your TV so expect improved figures for 2011.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

I think I must be in a minority of 1 ... I dont think shelling out £149-£249 on a new product that there should be ANY niggles at all and if there are niggles/faults then the company should acknowledge and partial refund until all niggles/faults are corrected.

I have no idea why customers are prepared to accept second best just because its a 'new product' ... they (TiVo) still after 10 years cant get the EPG error free and bugs from that S1 era still exist from the reading I have done.

I expect i will get hung drawn and quartered for daring to say the above but honestly in this day and age there is no excuse for poor quality service or product quality of a big release product that TiVo aspires to be. If it was Apple or Microsoft there would be rants and raves all over about shoddy workmanship and yet you accept it from VM  .. the mind boggles

I will now bow out of any further TiVo decussion as i have no intention of having one until there is no choice.

Agreed, not expecting VM to be battling it out with Sky to have the most channels but there is a danger of the gap becoming too large. Channels like ITV2,3,4 really should have HD options as a base service now, they're hardly new channels these days!

While what Tivo can do may be great, if it cannot access content or have content available in HD format, it will still be seen as the weaker box to Sky+. If VM can access new/HD content via the Internet link rather than signing up to channels then that could be another approach but expect that potential for specialist or premium content, not basic stuff like ITV2,3,4 just as an example.

I mentioned to the engineer that I had the V Box upstairs and I wanted the V+ that my Tivo was replacing to be moved upstairs so he could take away the V Box.
His jobsheet and PDA both just had down a straight install, despite me requesting the move at time of ordering Tivo and also confirmed this when I called yesterday.
Guy done it no bother though, took him 2 mins to do. Mentioned to him about the HD package I had on my V+ box and he said that would stay in the V+ upstairs and I would have HD on my Tivo too.. that doesn't seem right though?

BenI tried that yesterdy but just get a message on the TiVo box saying that the request was receieved but the programme could not be scheduled to record because the TiVo box assumes I have no channel 0. I was trying to set up a recording on 108 and 113.

The remote does work for volume and mute.

Nope - got it to work for volume and mute. The only time it turned TV off/on was when programming it to find its own code. Would love it if it did work as that's the only think I miss from the old V-box/shark remote days.

edit to add...

w00t!! TY for that. I wasn't holding it down long enough so it was just turning the box on and off so I figured it wasn't the right button (and on another thread someone said hold the TV button which didn't work)

Had my TiVo installed this morning (and my existing V HD + box moved to the bedroom to replace my standard existing V HD that was in there).

Had a little play with it, very quickly as had to leave soon after for a couple of days, but it all seemed very impressive!

Shame though that when I went online later to try and send over some recordings, the online TV guide's ability to set recordings onto our TiVo's isnt working today :-(

Cant wait to play with it all properly once up and running.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Blimey, that took a while.

My account wasn't set up for TiVo, then the 1st box installed kept re-booting. Took them over a hour to fix it those issues.

Playing with my new toy now. I'm sure I have the same issue as reported by other posters, regarding no VOD content slowing up in searches. For instance, I can watch Smallville on TV Choice on Demand, but I can't find the option to watch it via VOD from a search - that only reveals upcoming Smallville episodes from the EPG.

The SD image is softer (on my Samsung 40" C650, picture set at 720p) but not to the point of "Oh my Gawd, that's SOFT!"

So far, the speed of the box is OK. One or two brief pauses here and there, nothing too serious.

Running into the PIN issue already. At one point, the Tivo thought that BBC 1 was a adult channel :erm:, and insisted that I enter a PIN to watch that channel, that issue seems to have gone away since.
