Atlantic is actually achieving a higher weekly reach than FX which is far more widely distributed. It dosen't have much that interests me but I find it fascinating that so many VM customers pick up on the ratings. As it isn't available on VM and isn't likely to be anytime soon then personally I would be more interested what other new channels VM will be providing for my increased subscription costs which of course kick in soon.

You are on M though aren't you?

Yes, because I was tired of waiting for VM to get their act together and launch channels they had promised so I did something about it rather than constantly moan and got Sky HD.

If I was a XL customer I would ask VM what they are planning, which you well know is what I did when I had XL, sadly it took me 7 months to get a definitive answer out of them so I dealt with the problem myself.

I wouldn't waste time observing ratings on channels that my provider dosen't even carry and instead ask VM what alternative plans they have but as you said some time ago VM are going on 'a HD shopping spree' I would rather speculate what the said spree will provide!

If they do go on this spree I may well return in a year so it is in my interest, I am very much still a VM customer.

Must admit HD is not so much of a problem for me i have a HD tv 32 inch and a v+ box which dos a brilliant job upscaling,i can though see why people with bigger sets want more HD on a 42inch plus screen it must make a real difference , mind you my parents have a HD set and v+ box and when i go around there they are often wtching the SD version of programmes, when i mention to them they could be watching in HD they go oh ! in other words they are really not that bothered wonder how any people are like this obviously forums will be buzzing with HD talk, but in the real world many people do not yet subscribe or in people who i knows case are really not that worried.:)

And the channel range also is good for my needs friends who have all sky has to offer often say to me not much on tonight.! and with all that choice.:D:D;)

Sky and VM must be wasting their time with HD then if your parent's don't watch it ;)

I think you're right.

I think that many people outside our 'geeek circle' don't care or understand what HD is all about. Some will want it to keep up with or be ahead of the Jones' and other people would like it but aren't prepared to pay extra for it. Some people think they already have it because they have an HD TV.

On my 40" TV even though not as good as HD, the SD picture is very good on a decent channel. The 5.1 audio of HD is as great an attraction as increased PQ to me and that is not an incentive to those without home cinema systems i.e., the majority of people

Well maybe convey that to VM, they have just shoved a 10mb modem into their Tivo box to enable HD streaming so maybe they have missed a trick and misjudged the market.

But I seriously doubt they have, over 3 million Sky+ HD customers paying over £120 a year extra for HD suggests otherwise too and I doubt all of them are 'geeks'

Why should I convey that to VM; I want HD :D

The point that is being made is that less than a third of sky customers are on HD (I believe it's even less on VM). What proportion of the UK viewing population are sky + vm customers? A relatively small proportion of the UK viewing population are into pay TV and even less interested in HD.

For Sky to have not much less than a third of it's entire customer base paying £120 a year extra for HD when it hasn't even been around for 5 years is nothing short of amazing and clearly indicates HD is a massive growth area and any operator who dosen't take HD seriously will pay a very high price.

Thankfully VM and Sky both realise the potential of HD.

I didn't really get HD myself until we got a 46" set, now I definitely get it!

Maybe if i had a bigger set but a 32 inch set in a one bedroomed flat is large enough, and without a bigger set upscaled SD for me at least will suffice,i can see though with a set your size why you would feel the money well spent.:)

The only new stuff arriving for sure so far is the Red Button on sky sports, unless virgin have a april surprise in store which would not surprise me being the start of the new financial year, but even Media Boy has heard nothing regarding channel launches.

DF said in February that VM are going on a HD shopping spree this year.

I would be very surprised if new channels didn't launch with Tivo.

I make you right on that one i think there may well be more HD this year as per DFs statement almost certain i would have thought, but i would be suprised if that did not drip feed through not arrive in april ,but yes more channels should be here sometime.

Although you never know they might throw something out next month.:)

Yes with TiVo they will want content for it, though with its internet conection i think virgin will be looking to tie up streaming deals for tv as well as more HD.

Virgin Media to have same channel lineup by end of 2011?

The NTL and Telewest merger was finalised in March 2006 and Virgin have only got two ''UK Wide'' Channels only broadcasting in some areas so I thank Virgin will remove RTE Radio and WRN Radio from Ex-Telewest or even add them to all areas by end of 2011.

You will find that is incorrect as the HD channel only starts at 1400 as per the BBC listings page even on the Saturday.

Manual dynamic is a total contradiction in terms.

Well BenMcr says virgin tv guide is listing it as HD , pythagoras says his TIVo is listing it as HD and the sky online TV guide and iPad app have it in HD , it could just not have been flagged as HD yet on the Sky+HD epg but that could change.

Not strictly true, I think.

If the start of the race was delayed for any reason then went the full two hours that could well fall outside the program's scheduled time.

So it is

Article 5.3 from the sporting regulations
Quote:

The distance of all races, from the start signal to the chequered flag, shall be equal to the least number of complete laps which exceed a distance of 305 km (Monaco 260km). However, should two hours elapse before the scheduled race distance is completed, the leader will be shown the chequered flag when he crosses the control line at the end of the lap during which the two hour period ended. However, should the race be suspended the length of the suspension will be added to this period.

I know 1/2 people in CS. They know much more than your average phone call to them regarding any Channels launching.

It won't be just TiVo launching next week.

I would agree with this as who would launch a box which not a lot of people have heard of, So they must have a something else in their pocket to pull out at the launch.

Just my thoughts:erm:

With the way things have been with VM lately, I will not hold my breath. The only way to be with VM at the moment is expect nothing and hope for the the best.
I think they have got to launch some more HD channels soon or risk losing subscribers.

Yeah HD has been around for years now it's about time VM had more HD channels. Also about time more channels went HD as well.

I'd be happy with both of those. The PQ on the SD version of Universal is abysmal (and I'm enjoying watching Cold Case from the beginning again so HD would be great). ESPNA HD would be nice as the baseball season is about to start.

I know everywhere has it flagged as HD , its very unusual for the Sky epg normally 100 % spot on, the stranger thing is on the sky iPad app it says HD must be an oversight.

I recorded the F1 Quali in HD on my SA V+

7 hours is took up. tivo can't come fast enough.

joff81 26-03-2011 23:51

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.

I've just checked my epg on my SA V+ and the grand prix on BBC HD is not flagged as Hd just like the qualifying wasn't. After watching the qualifying i noticed that there is quite a bit of SD broadcasting within the FOM footage. A couple of the track side cameras as well as the on board footage are clearly SD so this may be the reason it's not flagged as hd even though it's being broadcast on BBC HD.
